How to make a Deer Box Blind - this video shows the progress of my whitetail deer box blind build that Johanne and I built near our camp. Box blinds or deer blinds are great setups in a food plot to help you stay warm and comfortable during the fall hunt. For us, this is a wildlife observatory as we plan to use it all year long to sit and watch animals feed off our food plot.
Adventures Outdoors highlights the hunting, fishing, camping, outdoor cooking, hiking, and ATV adventures of Frank Zinck. Frank works in Information Technology and is an avid martial artist and is the owner of Budocentral Martials Arts where he and his wife Johanne teach Kyushu-Ryu Ju-Jitsu, Karate-do Shotokai and WASP (a women’s self defence class) You can find more info on their club at www.budocentral.com. I’m a fan Frank. I’ll be watching. I’ve never been hunting but it’s something in my future. I’ve been target shooting hand guns and long guns for over 15 years. This is a nice looking deer blind. Very nice.

Well Frank, that sure is a great video you put together. Your wildlife observatory is great and should give Johanne and yourself plenty of great wildlife photo shots and a video with a roundup of them would be nice next year, just a hint. lol. Well 2021 hunting season was a bust, health was not the best and I was forced to stay out of the woods., but look forward to some hardwater fishing. Good Lord willing, we'll see you out there.

Nice Job. I have been thinking of doing the same on my wood lot. I was fortunate enough to take an 8 point buck and my son got his first deer this season, but it was more than a few cold days sitting in the tree stand. With the price of lumber these days it almost makes it building one unaffordable. Hopefully the prices next summer will come down and the deer blind will go up!!!
@FrankZinck
@FrankZinck 2 года назад
That must have been a very special moment with your son. Congratulations. Ya the price of wood was off the hook for sure. I was really lucky because my buddy donated the plywood to me and saved me a ton. I plan to build a smaller version this summer in the woods where there is lots of cover for the bucks.

Handy tip get some chicken mesh wire and cut it into a strip for your steps it's going to provide instant grip in winter so you don't fall going up or down the steps

Standard Deck screws are not engineered to take lateral movement they are meant more for vertical strength applications such as securing planks for decking. Using galv., nails are better for securing joists they have a higher sheering strength, and there are special galv., nails to hold those joist brackets you used again better sheering strength. But all I would do now that you are finished is go back and place a few nails in the cross bracing to ensure they are secure for the long haul. And galv. everything is better when using treated lumber. Just saying for future ref.

I hear ya. I think it’s a conspiracy propagated by the galvanized nail industry. 😂 ya I may do it. Consider it a test.

Got them at Princes Auto. They were $139 for four I got the for $34. I bought two boxes. Don’t think they have them anymore.

Great job! You are a man of many talents. One question...I think I saw another structure kind of close through the trees; are there any issues with hunting that close to another building?
@FrankZinck
@FrankZinck 2 года назад
We bought 23 acres of land. We own the cabin and shed and everything else. The nearest building that’s not ours is about 2km away. So we are very much alone. Lol.

Great video , did you guys manage to harvest a deer?
@FrankZinck
@FrankZinck 2 года назад
No. We both had a doe license and had numerous does coming but I didn’t want to take a doe that might be a possible breeder for the area. Not the first year anyway. Had sights on a buck but didn’t like the shot. He was in amongst some trees and never stepped out. Thelma the breaks lol.

Ive also got enough time before next season, starts in October and it's February. I would like to plant food plots but my land is all wooded and I don't really know what will grow on mostly shaded ground. Recommendations?
@FrankZinck

I would use a walk and toss. Like Rack Stacker. The stuff grows anywhere. I have it on some old logging roads.

@FrankZinck
@FrankZinck 2 года назад
No we didn’t. Although we both had doe tags I didn’t want kill any breeders in the area. Had my sights on a buck but didn’t take the shot. He was in too much cover and never stepped out. Still enjoyed every minute.

@@FrankZinck There’s always next year! 👍 My husband didn’t see anything this year but our son and I each got a buck just ten minutes apart!🤣 He got a nice spike and I got a six pointer. Great memories were made that day and that is really all that matters! Merry Christmas to you and your family. 🎄
