Can we photograph Jupiter on a budget of just £100? In order to make this possible I get in touch with the best planetary photographer in the world, Damien Peach and ended up bagging Mars and Saturn too!

PLEASE ask me any questions and I will do my best to answer them. I do hope to make further videos detailing my testing of cheap planetary cameras, testing of barlow lenses etc... a lot of testing happened to get these results!
If you want to take pictures of the planets and you want to buy a new, here are my recommendations... (please use the links if you buy bc it helps me earn a bit of cash which allows me to take time off work and make more vids😉)
BARLOW
Barlow lens is really important. This is what I use when i'm not being budgety; £167
www.firstlightoptics.com/barl...
Televue barlows are great too ( I owned a x3)
www.firstlightoptics.com/barl...
and here is a surprisingly good budget option £25
www.firstlightoptics.com/barl...
CAMERA
These planetary camera will each outperform my canon 600d by some margin
ZWO ASI120MC - a revolutionary camera when it came and and still a great bang for buck option. £153
www.firstlightoptics.com/zwo-...
ZWO ASI 178MC £322 ... 80% quantum efficiency. This camera rocks,
www.firstlightoptics.com/zwo-...
ZWO ASI 178MM £346 for serious planetary you will want to go mono and fit a filter wheel with RGB filters in front of the camera. I've used this camera for deep space too, it is awesome.
www.firstlightoptics.com/zwo-...
ZWO ASI 290MC £248 A lot of people have gotten very good results with this camera. It may be a a couple of percent better that the ASI 178 but it does have a smaller sensor... which can make things like lining up a bit more problematic.
www.firstlightoptics.com/zwo-...
TELESCOPE
Orion Optics VX 6Lis the closest modern scope to the one I used in this video. Long Newtonian telescopes are the best for any given aperture but there length makes them cumbersome and so when the aperture gets bigger fatter but smaller maks or SCT's are often a better choice. Please mention me if you buy from John 😉£318
www.orionoptics.co.uk/VX/vx6-...
I really like the Mak's (maksutov) telescopes for planetary you can choose the size to suite your budget...
90mm Mak; (my first telescope and Rik's!) £132
www.firstlightoptics.com/maks...
102mm Mak £167
www.firstlightoptics.com/maks...
127mm Mak £265
www.firstlightoptics.com/maks...
150mm mak £485
www.firstlightoptics.com/maks...
180mm mak £805
www.firstlightoptics.com/maks...
Maks are great for planets but if you want a great planetary scope AND a scope that is good for observing then SCT's are hard to beat. Damien Peach uses a 14inch SCT ! The best bang for your buck is generally considered to be the C9.25: £1349

The 2.5x GSO Barlow lens (TS variant) is an incredible Barlow for it's price, and I have mentioned this Barlow quite a lot in my videos. Cheap budget APO glass elements will deliver amazing images of the planets, and it's defo one of the Barlow's I would seriously recommend to someone who want's medium range Barlow for their money. I totally agree Rory that we the UK Astro RU-vidrs get very little coverage or gain subscribers and I've been on RU-vid for time and only got around 3.2K subscribers (compared to our American and Canadian counter parts with excess of 6K to 30K subscribers) for the sheer amount of hard work we both put in to deliver awesome videos, it seems we are left in a black hole for some strange reason. But who cares you video content is amazing, please Rory keep up the good work, And don't worry I've already given my shout out on my videos. Please Rory could you do the same for us at A4B.
