There's nothing more valuable than a family heirloom. I have my granduncles Iver Johnson top break in 32 sw long. He carried it when making coal and grain deliveries back in the 1920s through the 1950s.

I got a police revolver in 38 S&W from my grandfather after he passed. I love that revolver, I'm trying to find everything so I can reload my own

Nice! The 38 S&W uses a slightly larger bullet diameter than other 38s so that'll take some looking to find but the dies are widely available and my Lyman handbook has a ton of acceptable charges using modern and available gunpowder.

Those red and black plastic rounds are fun to fire too. you just replace the primer and off you go. It's amazing the power in just the primer alone.

I just recently shot my great grandfather revolver and for a 100+ year old gun it shot better than some of my other ones.

I used to own a similar specimen, which I bought at a flea-market in France. It had some Eibar Spain markings and unfortunately was chambered for the 8mm French Ordnance caliber.

30 grain FFFG BP would land you near 800 FPS. I use BP is 100+ yr old Revolvers and Rifles and no issues. Cool different video. Nice change of pace!

I have my father’s 1917 US Government model 45 S&W. This uses moon clips an still have some of those. What I Really enjoy about this revolver is that stamped in the barrel Is US GOVERNMENT . Have a great day 😊

My goodness how did you handle that brutal recoil? Lol Seriously, I reload my 38 S&W to around 700 fps with 158 semi-wadcutters. No problems It was a lend-lease pistol from WW ll carried by my uncle. He probably got it in England as a belly gunner on a B-17. The barrel markings say 38/380. The British name for this cartridge. Interchangeable with the short Colt I believe. It will not chamber 38 specials but no doubt the long Colt could.

That pistol reminds me of the Taueus I had in 38 Special. It is almost a copy except it had better front sight on it. It had been a police tradein that sat in a holster almost all of its life till I got it Nice pistol though until I sold it. Still liked it despite the heavy double action trigger. It was accurate though.

That's fun. I have a similar old revolver but it was my great Uncle's. Fortunately, for me, its chambered in a standard and readily available cartridge - although, I do handload. Looks to me like you need a bit more propellant and velocity there - I would expect 650 fps as a minimum. I think I saw unburnt powder flying out of the muzzle from too low chamber pressure. Maybe try some W231/HP38 - I used that for my boy's 38 Special loads for cowboy action shooting = very mild but performed consistently.

If you wanted to go to the extra effort you could just trim your .38 SPL brass from 1.155" down to 1.030" and load a 125-150 gn bullet to be authentic. 🙂 DJ

Cool shit Deuce. Would love to hear you talk more about Paw's shine days. I live over here East in Morgan Co, Tn. Lots of shine history around here. IIRC you once told me that you're closer to Nashville \ West Tn.

I wish I knew more about my family's moonshine history...I may need to do some digging on that. Fyi- I try to keep my location a bit vague due to having a run in with members of an anti-gun group but lets just say I hear more Dolly than Elvis.

@@deuceandguns if you find the family recipe, you may need to start making it for a fuel supplement.

If I ever find the family recipe I'll be putting up a distillery in Pigeon Forge...unless it's gutrot then your plan is probably better.

Be careful of getting a squib with that low of pressure/velocity🙁DJ

Yep, the manufacturer ADI said they plan to make more but that was a year ago. All the cowboy shooters started moving over to Tin Star but that's also now discontinued from what I understand.
