A presentation of a nice simple to use camera : the Olympus Pen EE2 half-frame plus some example shots taken in Lisbon with a 16 year expired fujifilm (color C100) - a point and shoot from the seventies that uses no batteries !
thx for the video man! btw recently i just bought a secondhand olympus pen ee2, and i think it's working just fine. i haven't test it yet cause i'm a little bit confused about the film's ISO. Cause i read and watch some review that if you use 400 iso film, the red flag will still appear even tho u put the camera's ISO setting to 400. so i'm a little bit confused whether the ISO of the film and the camera setting should be the same or not. Or the film iso should be lower than the camera setting? or even higher? and what do you think is the best recommended film's iso that is suitable for this camera in the auto mode? thank you before if you see this comment and answered it
ISO (or ASA at the time of analog) is about the sensitivity of the film, he higher the more sensitive. Typical values for film where 100, 200 and 400 (for common films) with 100 less sensitive to be used mainly outdoor, and 400 a bit more general purpose. when you select the ASA corresponding to the film on the camera, it adapts aperture/speed settings accordingly - if the red flag appears it's because the camera detects you don't have enough light to shoot; so in those conditions you can add a flash or find better lighthing conditions. With such a camera, I would suggest to let him do it's job with the correct ASA settings and respect the "red flag" - if it appears, it means "not enough" light and with 400 ISO you need less light than with 100 ISO - I hope my answer helps you, happy shooting ! nice carry around camera :-) Ah something else in case you shoot B&W, the higher the sensitivity the grainier it gets, so take that into account too.
Hello, no you don't, in that case you might have photos exposed on half of a frame horizontaly ; search for "first of the frame" or "first of the roll"photos on instagram to see some examples, it can be fun and creative ! instagram.com/f1rstoftheroll/ as another example, here is one of my own photos like that instagram.com/p/B_s0I1-HtI1/ on my Instagram account
@@RetifsGarage I meant for the 16 years old expired film did you overexposed it by 2 stops or more? Or did you just set it at 100 ASA for your C100. Thank you.
Ah ok, sorry, I think in the end I did not overexpose it if I remember well, the reason is that C100 batch of film seems to hold well its sensitivity. On a more unknown type of film, I would have overexposed by one stop only, I hope that helps.
@@RetifsGarage thank you very much! Hahaha i found 2 rolls of 20+ years old expired films at home. Cuz it didn’t stored properly. Originally Fuji colour 100, thinking to shoot at 25 ASA 😅😅😊
Hello again (I was de "Foca guy" from yesterdays comments). I have a Pen EE2 too! I am a *huge* Olympus fan, one could say a pure maniac, especially all the models from the Yoshihisa Maitani area (en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Yoshihisa_Maitani) / inspiration: I have this Pen, a Trip, several mju aka Stylus, some reflexes, and 6 - yes SIX! - XAs, the whole range including the ugly little duck XA1 up to the 28mm XA4, with the range of flashes. The important point: I totally agree with your point on _small_ cameras. I usually carry 3 cameras at the same time, loaded with B&W / C41 / E6 to be ready for each light situations and subjects. You cannot do that with reflexes / middle format, unless you have a slave assistant to carry you stuff. Unfortunately, the test roll of my Pen EE2 did not come out too well, with a strange symptom: some frames, but not all, and not at all depending on the lighting condition, were clearly underexposed by I would say 2 stops at last. Maybe I mistakenly changed the ISO settings mid-roll, maybe the selenium cell is just plain dead (but the does not match my experience with other cams/cells, these things seams to be indestructible), and/or it shot everything at the same speed/aperture... maybe because of a mistaken "flash" setup from me??? to be investigated with a light source at home and tried again. Using such optico-mechanico-electrico beauties is always a risky bet ;-) And I also enjoyed my visit to Lisbon some years ago, with 3 cameras as usual (www.flickr.com/search/?user_id=40741666%40N05&sort=interestingness-desc&text=lisbon&view_all=1).
Your photos of Lisboa are excellent ! Ah the XAs, I don’t have one yet but they are for sure on my wish list, excellent lens, good controls and Easy to carry around :)
