The Acme sounds very cool. It just seems like it should cost more like 10 times as much as the cheap plastic ones, rather than 100 times. For even more expensive and louder, there is the Acme Siren Horn.
Yeah. The price is a bit shocking on that one but you can definitely tell a difference. Is it worth it? Maybe? ACME has some great whistles and horns for sure. Well-made.
A guy after my own heart. I just love the sound of the classic Acme siren, and would love to buy one (but really can't justify the price - about $75-$85 AUD). I can definitely hear the difference, but I'm still considering buying a cheap one sometime just for fun. Also I have to slightly correct you - you said this was a question no-one was asking, but that's not entirely true. I've pondered this myself now and then! :)
Please keep Whistle Wednesdays going. I had no idea there would be so much fascinating stuff to look at. I'm not sure where you'd use a siren whistle other than comedy sound effects, but now I know so much more about them! Have you done a swanee whistle episode?
I'm glad others are enjoying this crazy series. I have fun making the vids. There are a lot more whistles to explore. Just wait until you see next week's episode. 😆
Well, you can definitely hear the difference. Whistle Wednesday is pretty fun. You should test out various "songbird whistles" (we went to the renfair and lots of people were selling them)
You can hear the quality in the Acme compared to the cheap Chinese-made toy. For sure. I didn't mention it in the vid but I'm assuming there's an also a huge difference in quality control. The cheap ones vary a lot from whistle to whistle. I'm assuming that doesn't happen on the Acmes. Thanks for checking it out.
I would assume the the same thing. When we needed sound effect we bought Acme or had the engineers make something really nice. If you have a lath you can do something like these guys did, ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-TVRR11ZoVDY.html @@musicalmiscellany
I have a cheap one that sounds much better than the plastic one demonstrated above, but still was only about 50 cents. Mine is a metallic color and a little nicer shaped, and makes a little better quality sound. I knew I should have bought two...
Thanks for checking out the video. Do you remember the manufacturer of the whistle or where you got it? I do this series called Whistle Wednesdays and I'm always looking for more whistles. I'd love to do a future video with a different siren whistle.
