Make a quick, simple but strong and awesome steady rest for your lathe! I have an old Atlas (machinists lathe) and it works amazingly well! Of course, I don't show dimensions, since your sizes would more than likely be different than this one. But I show you how I made mine, and even share how to make yours even better! I should have made this years ago! This shop-made steady rest is super easy to adjust, and more importantly...it's smooth and steady!

Yeah, that is pretty cool! Looks like wizardry to a non turner. I like the foot you added to the work piece on the Shaper Work Station

I’m actually a non turner! 😬 I have more experience on a machinists lathe…but occasionally use it for wood. Anyway…thank you for the constant support 🙏🏼

Well done 👍 I have this on my to do list. B ut i always end up finding other turning projects 😂🤘 But one day maybe i will find the time. And you are right about the europeans 🤪👍 Sorry but at least this one 🤣

Super work on the steady rest. Yours is much nicer than mine but the design is almost identical. I made mine quite a few years ago before I had my Shaper Origin so I had to cut the circles by hand. I use it all the time when turning pepper mills. I got my wheels from Lee Valley and it looks like they still sell them - Item 12K7985. They have the inner bearing and don't mark the workpiece. That's a great lathe you have there.

I wish I had paid attention when I ordered the wheels. But I can always get some with bearings. I’ll check out the Lee Valley version. Yeah…I love this lathe but like my dads Southbend even better! Thanks David!

A steady rest is so nice to have as wel foreong legs and such I have always had the idea to get a metal lathe and to use it for wood as wel they just more solid build most of the time and way more options and to be able to turn would surely Co. E in handy. And Indeed the hate for spade bits is just lost on me I like them as wel

Yep! I love machinists lathes …my dad has a huge Southbend that I use on bigger stuff. Anyway, thanks a ton!
