Hi Ron. Thanks for these videos. Overall, I really appreciate your balanced and frugal example when constructing work systems. I go back and forth sometimes but mostly prefer to put my money in good power tools, and save on things I can make for myself.

I just made my own t-track two weeks ago. I used my table saw instead of the upcut bit to make the slot. I need to order the spiral upcut bit. Thanks for your videos!

A big Amen to DIY track. And if you need additional pieces like a cross over even more $. Plus you always have the right length. I've been using the Microjig system and like it. The clamps slide in and work well. The threads are perhaps small at #10 . With a 3 HP router you can cut them in one pass so that is a plus.

Ha! I’m literally waiting on the postal service to deliver my woodcraft t slot bit while this video dropped. Ron you forgot to add this link to your plans for the PSRT but I found it in your store. Can’t wait to finish my PSRT!

Hey Ron, thanks for all your inspiration. I have a question, will the Whiteside bit cut a t-slot that a Festool quick clamp can also use?
@xaytana

While I like T-slots, I think MicroJig's Matchfit solution would be better for wood, especially in plywood. I would say dovetails are a good alternative, but there's probably a reason why Matchfit uses rounded dovetails instead of a typical sharp corner dovetail. I've been meaning to getting around to making a hybrid of MFT and Matchfit, similar to Dave Stanton's bench that uses MFT with T-slots, except having slots as a grid just like the MFT. All to add versatility, some things work better with dogs, some things work better with slots, some things may even benefit from both systems.

That was well put across. Unfortunately, I am only able to obtain a slot cutting bit with a bearing. Can you safely use this instead of the Rockler bit?

Thanks for this, I think I will invest in the bits instead of buying Tslot track for the miter saw station I am planning. I find the price for Tslot track ridiculous for what it is anyway!

Would a coat of paste wax be beneficial inside the track? Not gonna be the easiest thing to do but it seems like it might help prevent the bolts from binding. ???

Put paste wax on the microjig clamp and slide it in the cut slot.

Hi Ron Thanks for all you knowledge over the years. You may have already discussed this but why do you prefer up cut bits vs down cut bits?
@tektrixter

From what I've seen, it depends on which direction you want the chips/dust to go.
@TheSmartWoodshop
@TheSmartWoodshop 3 года назад
I use up cut for two reasons; 1. the chips are pulled up and out 2. the material being cut is pulled toward the router rather than being pushed away. I am sure there is a purpose for a down cut, but I have never purchased one or use one.

@@TheSmartWoodshop I used a downcut bit by chance and it left a real clean cut into the material, but it blew out the back more than a upcut bit. I suppose it just would depend what side of the material you want to look good. Happy holidays!

Happy Holidays, Hey Ron, what do you think of the Microjig Matchfit Jig and Fixture system, particularly the Dovetail Router Bit Relief Bit?

Talked to Sierra who carries the Premcore +. It was interesting that they have an unfinished ie. not finished with the uv protection and the other which ready for building cabinets. Which is it that you use? There is a difference of about $10/sheet.

Ron, how much/long do you expect to use a t-track before you have to replace it & make another one? Just curious

Is there a site or location i can find measurements on all the standard t track on the market. I for the life of me am sick of buying stops, and other such track items and matching the fit i want. Example. There's the extruded aluminum 2020 2040 ect, and track type 45, and 75. not sure what 75 is but i own a flip stop that fits like crap in my so called standard t track.
