In Germany you pay 9 bucks per 100cc yearly and twice that for diesels. Dont take your guns and engines for granted. Love the videos!

If you are wondering what the aluminum block truck style Ls engines are. Its either a 5.3 (L33) or a 5.3 (Lm4). The L33 comes stock with flat top pistons and 799 heads that are identical to the 243 heads from a Ls6. The Lm4 is basically a regular 5.3(Lm7) iron block just with a aluminum block.

The biggest issue I had to overcome with the 6.0 LS in my XJ is a good cooling system. the Novak XJ swap radiator, although fairly robust, and well made doesn't have the cooling capacity. I finally had a custom radiator made by C&S Racing out of Indy. That solved all my issues except I gotta eat baloney for a while.

The staters ARE interchangable, however, you just need to use the correct bolts, also, the starter with one long and one short bolt can actually snap off of your aluminum block over time. always go for the starter with the 2 long bolts

Hey man, thanks for watching. Yes, the accessory drive can be more expensive than the engine in some cases, and definitely needs considered when planning your swap. Good luck with your camaro!!
@NakedStarInc

Both starters are interchangeable, they are exactly the same besides the vette/camaro starter uses 1 short and 1 long bolt and the truck uses 2 long bolts. Other than that 100% compatible on either engine.

My truck actually has the 4 wire plug on it. 2000 silverado 1500 4x4. So I think they will interchange also. Bolt pattern is different because there is different because of case size with different amperage output (100 amp vs 135 i think) but you just have to change mounting bracket to run either one.

I lost 150 lbs. and gained 150 HP switching from the cast iron 4.3L V6 to an aluminum 5.7L LS1. Best upgrade for an S10. A win-win situation - you get more go (LS1) for your ride and a great anchor (V6) for your boat. lol

@@sethh8892 Numbers don't lie - 5.7 vs 5.3 is easy math. Just because everybody and their brother-in-law is working on inexpensive, generally cast iron, 5.3s does not mean they make more power. If you have more cubic inches, you have more potential. The only downside to the aluinum 5.7L blocks (GM aluminum blocks, in general) is their limited tolerance to over-boring, w/ the limit ~ .010-.020, and adding significant amounts (

I have a 145 amp Escalade alternator in my 98 Trans am instead of the original 105 amp. It has a 4 pin connector, I made no modifications to it besides ditching a third superfluous bracket, and installed it with the two remaining bolts in the original location. Great upgrade from stock, just gotta make sure its the 4 pin connector which came on a few select years. I found the info online, there is a write up somewhere regarding the upgrade. Another difference I ran across, is that some early 6.0 engines had a longer crankshaft than the 4.8 and 5.3, It had a flat flywheel flex plate. The 4.8 and 5.3 used a dished flex plate. These 6.0s also had cast iron heads, I think it is referred to as a LQ4

You can get adapters to space out the shallow water pump to use truck accessories, also some throttle bodies are 87mm like the LY6 that is a 4 bolt pattern. Also the new gen 4 truck intakes out flow the old style truck intakes.

If you are building a flat out drag strip car on the cheap I would go with the higher air flow intake out of the gate. If you are building a street car, I agree with you about going with the low profile intake.

@@SmallTimeMotorsports hey what about this: i have a friend selling a 94 corvette with the original LT1. would it be worth swapping an LS into that or why not just beef up the LT1? I never hear anyone talk about old LT1 engines or upgrading them. they can't be all that bad right? Have any info on older LT1s?
@SmallTimeMotorsports
@SmallTimeMotorsports 5 лет назад
The Lt1's can be fantastic engines, just a bit more work and money than an ls. The major thing about Ls engines is that they make 300hp/ftlbs out of the box and the very stout bottom end can hold 1000hp stock. Not to mention they are plentiful and parts are available everywhere. The C4 corvette is a beautiful car and dropping an ls into one should be a no brainer. The dash and interior electronics can be a pain, but remanufactured ones are available, if it were me and I was building a racecar, the c4 would be high on the list. To do things for an lt1 would be getting rid of the optical distributor, getting some good flowing heads, and getting some fuel to it, maybe even a stroked shortblock to really crank out some fun. Pound for pound I think youd spend the same for 500hp

I'm by no means an expert, but being in the middle of an LS conversion and researching these same parts, I can say this is a bit incomplete. Some of what I've learned that is missing is the Late F-Body LS 1 did have the LS 6 intake from the factory, which means no EGR port, but cable throttle body (has the inserts), which is the engine I am working with. The LS 6 had a different breather setup (updated to stop oil getting into the intake) than the LS 1 but the late F-Body didn't use that even though it's the same intake. There also is the GTO oil pan which is different than all the others (front sump I believe). Corvette, F-body, and truck all use different Harmonic balancer depths. The L33 5.3 was an aluminum block and used in some 4 wheel drive trucks
@SmallTimeMotorsports
@SmallTimeMotorsports 5 лет назад
Thanks for watching and passing some knowledge on man, yes, there are variants of the 5.3 that were aluminum in the Buick Ranier and the Chevy SSR. There is also an LS4 that I really didnt go into. The intake variants are good information and im glad to add them to the knowledge bank. I spoke mainly about the common stuff and more importantly what I had on hand and could give visual representations of, but I am constantly learning as well. Thanks again for watching!

Youll probably have to convert to car manifolds for hood clearance. Its a 2007 vortec engine so it should be cathedral port, meaning either an LS1 or an LS6 manifold will easily fit. The rest of the brackets should bolt right up to the block so the accessories will fit you just have to make sure that your oil pan clearance is good. Thanks for watching and commenting!

Thanka for watching Joe, a rust free 1980 cherokee is a score, engine or not. Thanks for watching and commenting!!! You may have an aluminum block in your 08 GMC, that is a gen IV engine called the LFA block. It shares a lot with the other truck engines and if im not mistaken should have 243 cathedral port heads. If you have a LFA block it will have a ribbed Active fuel management valley cover and thats the biggest and easiest tell tale other than decoding the vin. So its kind of a hybrid Gen III/IV engine, it uses gen IV crank reluctor and gen III heads.

@SmallTimeMotorsports
@SmallTimeMotorsports 5 лет назад
Hello Frank, Thanks for watching and commenting! Changing a head gasket on an Ls engine is very straight forward and satisfying work. First make sure the engine is as clean as you can get it. A couple other tips I can give you are to make sure you use new head bolts and a quality torque wrench, they are torque to yield fasteners (which means they have a measurable stretch to them) and must be replaced. Another tip I can give you that ive learned is to use windex on the cylinder head surface when trying to get the intake into place, it will slide and help prevent rolling the intake gasket over, then will dry and seal like normal. Its also a good time to inspect and change the knock sensors in the valley if they are in poor shape since youre already there with the intake off, and dont forget to hook up the ground strap on the cylinder head when finished. If youre tackling this job with the engine in the truck you may be able to pull the head with the exhaust manifold attached to prevent snapping the bolts, be careful of this and apply heat with a MAP gas torch if necessary. Other than that its a very good job to tackle yourself and save some money. Thanks again for watching man, and good luck!!

In your video you mentioned the brass inserts to change from DBW to cable, What did you use to change to Drive by cable for intake manifold ? Thanks

What’s the best application for a 1982 Chevy c10? I’m new to all this, but I’m trying to learn so I can put a ls on it .

Thanks for watching and commenting Jose. The best, easiest, and cheapest engine for your 1982 c10 would be a 5.3 truck engine. Your truck is more than big enough to fit the tall truck intake that makes the best low down power and the 5.3 engine is very cheap. They made millions of them and a few companies out there make the mounts and everything youd need to get it working in your truck, you can even use your stock transmission. Thanks for watching and commenting and good luck on your project!!

TBSS intake is better then all other stock intakes from what i hear.

I hear they are pretty good as well, more on the truck side of things and good flow, but very tall too, makes them hard for some applications. Thanks for watching and commenting man!!

What is the sensor on the top of the truck intake, with the green cap on it? Is it needed for a swap, and where does the line lead to on the driver side of the intake? Thanks to anyone that answers.

I’ve got a 5.3 from a 2002 silverado and I’m wanting a shorter intake. What should I look for to direct bolt up?
@SmallTimeMotorsports
@SmallTimeMotorsports 4 года назад
Thanks for watching and commenting!! The lowest profile intake youll be able to go with would be a car intake manifold. If its a 5.3 then it has cathedral ports on the cylinder heads and id be looking for an LS1 manifold, the ls6 does flow more but not enough on a stock engine to be concerned with

I put a 4 barrel on a pulp truck c50 chevy. I had no power and it drank gas. My mechanic said to put my old intake and 2 barrel and put it back on my new engine. My mechanic said that 2 barrel and intake is very tall for torque, he was right. These new ls v8 truck engine intakes and injection set up is much taller than the car set up. i wonder if this tall design is also for more torque? My mechanic said chevy engineers designed this, not loggers.

Your mechanic is absolutely correct, the longer runners are for torque, and the smaller runners on the car intakes lend better to higher rpm horsepower. The difference in cams moves the powerband to a certain range to make proper use of the intakes and runner length. When you moved your intake and put a 4 barrel on your truck it likely couldnt use the fuel it was getting, but if you paired it with a more suited cam it would have been able to compensate and have been a better power upgrade. Smart guy your mechanic!! Thanks for watching and commenting!!
