SHOP WITH ME & CLEARANCE GROCERY HAUL | Vlogmas #9 

Food waste is one of my missions actually. My husband works retail and when he started at his present job, they threw away everything at the best by date. cereal, dry goods, didn't matter. With much convincing, we got the district manager to allow the store to give the goods to our local food bank. More stores need to do this. My kids have moved out, but we used to take my daughters softball team out Christmas caroling for canned goods. People were very generous and we had a blast. We realllly can't sing! Encourage food pantry assist when you can! My other mission is "haricuts for the hungry", but that's another day! Merry VLOGMAS #9!

Thank you thank you thank you for being such a gracious consumer! I wish more people were as kind and understanding as you were about the deli meat. I worked in retail for 15 years and while, yes you were right, you didn’t act high and mighty about it. I ALWAYS tell people you’ll get further with me if you’re nice and try to be understanding than if you give me attitude. I’ll bend over backwards to help someone who’s nice versus that mean customer causing trouble. On behalf of retail workers everywhere THANK YOU!!

yeah I completely understand about when the stickers not working.... my recommendation is don't argue with the cashier like you said, just take your receipt to customer service and have a manager take off the other $4.anytime I've had issues with a discount sticker or my card not working etc it's just the easiest route to take. I am so happy that the Fred Meyers(kroger), Safeway and Costco near me all donate a lot of their discounted food to the local food banks. Food waste makes me sad too. Btw Love your vids. I have learned so much.

My smiths is hit or miss on clearance produce BUT they always have test flowers on clearance that I love picking up occasionally.

I buy about to expire greek yogurt, freeze them and then use them in smoothies. Great way to add flavor and protein to smoothies.

I've heard that Wednesday morning is the prime time for marked down items.

I live in Canada 🇨🇦 and at loblaws branded high end stores has an app called flashfood. You can purchase clearance meat, dairy and bakery on the app and pick it up at customer service desk. They usually put items on the app around 9 and if it is not sold by 5 they slash prices. Today I got 10 packs of pre cooked ribs for $1 a have gottton bacon for $0.50 a pack but you halve to be fast.

I am with you, I hate the fact that there is so much food waste today. It's always good to save money as well where ever possible. Also,you probably already know this but baked beans freeze beautifully too. Just be sure to thaw them completely before heating/stirring to prevent them from going to mush. After that, they are just like fresh baked.

I won't lie. I live vicariously through you and your clearance shopping. I'm going one day next week to my local Kroger (maybe both of them in my town) and clearance hopping for the first time since last February 🤣

My Smiths always has tomatoes in those 99 cent bags. I made homemade salsa from them one time and it lasted forever. I went on black friday and got tons of mark down meat and roasts. I love Smiths and their markdowns.

I am with you on the food waste issue. I hate it too! We rarely throw anything away. I just had to toss almost an entire bag of chestnuts that I purchased and roasted and when I peeled them they were almost all moldy on the inside. They looked fine on the outside, I was so upset!

Hi Christine - what I do if the b5s5 sale gets messed up if something doesn’t count, is I just go to customer service and purchase one more participating item and get the adjustment. Nice “haul”!

They do come off at my store! I found 4 pack Oikos yogurts yesterday, marked down to $1.89, and they were participating items, so I got them for $.89! I love markdowns!

Wow I wish my Kroger had that many deals. I always look but there’s never that much meat or bread marked down.

You were right about the discount. I got pantene shampoo for 39 cents with a digital coupon. And yes it was in the clearance bins. My Kroger has clearance in some of the strangest spots. But I love that store

We have a neighborhood grocery store that is Kroger as well. It ALWAYS works on the woohoo deals here. I’m wondering if one item wasn’t coded right for the buy 5 get 5. You’re right!

The stores in my area only discount the fresh foods the day before it expires. Its mostly because I live in a poorer area and they know that anything discounted will be bought.

At my Kroger affiliate store, when discounted grocery items are scanned, it adds tax. Where I am, there is no tax on food. I have made the cashier take it off at the register and complained at customer service, but it still happens all the time. By the way, I always love your word play AND your clearance”hauls”! 😂

Great camera work in the store Hailey! I once had a manager tell me I couldn't use a coupon on a sale item because that's double dipping and that's illegal. I tried not to laugh because he obviously didn't know his policies so I was like ok and paid my bill. Nice finds today thanks for sharing have a great day!

My stores here in my area doesn't have clearance sections,,,, but I hope the new managers at one big grocery store does a clearance section,,, my MIL (lives quite far from me) picked up tons of fruit for very little,,,,, when my sons & I would visit her,,, I was greatful to get at least 6 jars of jams & jelly,,,, pickled beets. Etc

Is it also helpful to ask associates what particular days the mark down certain categories? I've heard people say "X store always marks down meat on Tuesdays" for example.

Ahhhhhh, yes, when did "haul" replace my regular groceries? Like how some folks hate the word "moist," that's how I feel about "haul." Excellent findings!

I would love to see a video of you talking about recipes that are pork or lactose-free. I have trouble when I eat anything pork-related and my son is lactose n tolerant.

We have a Fred Meyer (Kroger affiliate). But they don't mark down things much. Thry donate to the foodbank that way they can write it off on their taxes to retail cost of it. Which is great for the food bank, not so great for those of us who are trying to save on our food bill. I was even told that the food bank gets so much food from stores that a lot of it goes to waste anyway 😔

I'm trying to clear out my freezer because my local store always discount ALL THE MEAT on Christmas Day and I just can't say no to those deals so I run early to an empty store to get it all (that I want and can afford). And for those appalled - I live in Sweden, we celebrate Christmas on Christmas Eve so I don't miss out on any celebrating.

Ialso buy stuff markdown I check out the clearance section as well as the dollar off coupons that they put on meats etc or half price or 30% off

If a cashier is not willing to take it off...usually you can go to the customer service and they have always helped me out with things like this.

Your outfit is too cute - all of it matches! The herbs that you found for $.99 were marked down to $.49 last Friday at my Frys/Kroger. I stocked up and microwaved them until dry for future use. I do that with the chive plants I have before winter sets in. Lasts all winter. Love me some woohoo stickers! My store seems to have markdowns early on Fridays. You found a lot of marked down items. My store is the same thing - the actual mark down section is crummy - but in the rest of the store it can be quite good. The cashier story is great. Guess Smiths figured out what was going on and fixed it LOL. I try real hard to just be polite and not engage unless it is my favorite cashier since I get absurd answers (who never seems to work when I am there anymore). Great video and "haul."

Oh my gosh! AMEN to not using haul!!! Oh and with the hummus - delicious and cheap salad dressing is half hummus and half salsa. Is so creamy and basically no calories plus full of protein.

Some Kroger 's take off the B5/S5 but most don't because it's already discounted

First off, you got what I call Grandma hummus! 🤣 My grandma’s name is Sabra. Also, expiration/sell by dates aren’t very accurate for telling if food is “good”. Sure, it’s fine to use them as a general way of telling if food is old, but using your senses- does it look & smell fresh?- is more useful than an arbitrary date. Also, I really appreciate you being considerate to the cashier even though he was wrong. Shows that you have integrity! 😊

We have a Fred Meyer which is Kroger. This price discrepancy has happened to me before. After I check out, I go to customer service and they always right it.

Bananas that are going bad are great for baking! Banana muffins or bread for breakfast.

The walmarts in nampa dont trash their food the day old items they have to get rid of they donate to the local food banks, ive been to 3 foodbanks and they all have items walmart donated.

In Canada there is an app called FlashFood that Real Canadian Superstore has. You download the app on your phone. Stores upload items minimum 50% off that is nearing it's best before date or damaged packaging. You purchase the items and pick up same day. We have saved over $500 on groceries. It's been great. I FILLED our freezer with meat and anything else I could freeze from there. I love it.

I too shop at a Kroger affiliate, but we don’t get anything close to the mark downs that you have. Things are marked down, but not nearly as many as at your store.

Lots of clearance stuff! I usually find a good quantity, but not that much. I'm in SLC, btw. I usually ask if they can honor the online coupon. Most of the time they do, and right at the register. Obviously, it's easier if the cashier is nice to start with. But if the cashier is not very nice, I ask anyway. They can easily call a manager that can help me. If the manager says no, then that's fine, but most managers do honor what didn't come through. It seems they prefer to honor my coupons than leave it to see if someone else will buy it. I love their $1 produce bags! You got great deals.

When something doesn't scan right, I'll pay and just go up to customer service. This way I don't hold up the line.

I'll buy the chicken marked down and make a fried chicken salad for sandwiches.

I'm so annoyed with my Kroger AND Walmart. They both have very lame clearance sections. I actually got some really great bread deals at a different Walmart last week but it just really enforces how lame mine are lol. :(

Hello! Excellent job filming! You should followup with customer service at your Kroger. I'd want to know for future reference. $4 is $4, ya know? Your Kroger is on point with the sales. I have only found yogurt 1 time marked down. And their discount produce always looks really bad. Meat I can sometimes find. I did find Dave's Killer Bagels for $2.29 a pack on Friday. I bought several bags. God bless

Anyone from Southeast PA wanna point me in the direction of which stores have mark downs like this? I can’t find them. I usually resort to paying regular price at Aldi.

I would have still asked at customer service about receiving the discount 4.00, the manager can override and if you are a frequent flyer they will honor and give you the money back. If I don't need anything and I go into the store, I come out with way too much, so I am on a no shop, stay out o the store. I had to purchase cat food or there would have been a riot at my house, so I did go to get cat food. I have enough for gas but am not going to the gas station until my car is close to "e". I do shop the bread, bagels, and discount specialty breads because I love different textures, but that is usually the only clearance items, bread is on my list. I did buy some cookies 3 packs or 1.00, they were terrific as well! but I have a list and I stick to it so I can make the meals on my meal plan.

Kroger or the one in your town do take off the dollar a pack they did it for me yesterday. That guy was just not having a good day. If you find something dated say the 6 and its the 5 walk up guy in work that part of the store they will more it down for your. Even salad bags. I get thing marked down for me all the time in my store. Few times a year i will give out treats to people who work there. I been going to same Kroger for 20 years. It good get to know the people who work there learn there names and just be nice. I helps alot. Oh that sell on sat was so big it had gift sets paper and candy 50%. I got so much of Christmas shopping done.

Oh no no no. We have a local grocery store called iga they had a sale where most stuff was 1 or 2 dollars each so I got tons, well it was such a gold deal I went back a week later, I got the same items that I did the first time and the cashier says they arent part of the sale items, I tell her they worked before she said I dont know why, theh arent working nkw! Then I showed her their flyer their sale add and their shelf stickers that said these items were all part of the sale, she wouldnt budge even though it was the exact item in the sale flyer picture, same size and style exactly, and tje exact item where the stickers were saying they were part of the flyer. Anyways I left all my stuff and said I will never be back, and the rest of the 2 years we lived there I never went back ever I refused to give them my business, I vote with my dollars. I used to sho there weekly i would literally spend 100 to 200 a week every single week for years, and the only other grocery store was 30 min away, i never went back to iga and never will if i see one ever.

I have went to customer service and got refunds for any digital coupons that didn't come off or any other discrepancies. I have NO problem doing whatever is needed to save $$.

ALL THAT DISCOUNT MEAT!!!!!! Girl , I would have put it ALL in my cart 😂As for arguing with a cashier, if it comes down to my $, you bet I will stand my politely ground. I recently punched $6.00 worth of items and the cashier tried charging me $35.00. I had to have her re-run the items twice before she made the correct changes. By the 3rdtime I would have lost my cool since she was giving me the stink eye. But all end well.
