Shopify Store Owner Reacts To Shane Dawson BREAKING Shopify

What's going on everyone! Considering eCommerce is the primary focus of the channel (and Shane is a favorite creator of mine), I see it only as fit to talk about the Conspiracy Palette launch that happened last month, shattering many records.
Shane Dawson spent months creating an eyeshadow palette, with the help of Jeffree Star. They took a genius approach by documenting the entire process in a video series, pulling viewers in with emotion and drama. If you ask me, everything was perfect. The way this whole thing was orchestrated.
At the product launch, over 1,000,000 palettes sold within hours (it may actually just be in 30 minutes, excluding the errors). There's a lot to learn from this as the elements in this series are things we'll begin to see a lot more of from big brands. We'll talk about being relatable & transparent mainly.
VIDEO SCHEDULE UPDATE: Twice-monthly videos. Trying to get Andrew (camera guy) to go full-time with this in 2020. I do all the editing (50+ hours per video), so having someone help with that will free up more time to produce even better content.

XTRA _ I’m not saying they didn’t do a good job on the marketing campaign. But it’s just logic and math. A following= opportunity=money. The following is the real key not the product, marketing, or sales. Once you have the following and your advertising to the right market (usually they work together) you’ll get sales if the demand meets the price.

Another really cool analysis Chris and Julia. Hahahah Julia’s reactions to you about your first videos were hilarious 😂😂 From a POD perspective, just an idea, but something to take away from this would be to collaborate with RU-vidrs...on their own product in your store? Instead of the typical sponsored merch kind of thing, it would actually be a kind of “we made this with x” series of videos. A “making of” series with someone you collab with, would be a really interesting thing for both yourself and the influencer (who is always looking for new content to do). Anyway, keep up the good work and always love your videos!

Most certainly building a brand is the way to go for long the term and for an exit as you have a real marketable product. In this situation its all about clout and thats what everything really boils down to, if people see clout they want it, even if it isn't a good product. After spending a decent amount on drop-shipping I can rightfully say building your own product and brand is the best thing to do and grow it for the long term and then exit, dropshipping just isn't sustainable and i'm not a fan of that loop of constantly finding more products to sell that aren't mine. 2020 is going to be interesting.
@quantumfzx
@quantumfzx 4 года назад
You don't always have to sell products that aren't yours. First start off selling products that aren't yours and then use the pixel data from that niche you sold in to promote a new product of your own creation in the same niche. It's all about that data homie. If you have the data you can test your next winner so easy.

Ok, so say you are sourcing product from individual producers what is your rule of thumb for profit margins. In B&M business it's 40% but you must be running way slimmer than that. You said you grossed 6M in sales but the net was around 400k. That is a net profit margin of around 7% but what were your operating costs? Great video and I hope you do more with the channel.

I bought the Conspiracy palette too. I'd say I enjoyed and was inspired by the whole process (I love product development especially cosmetics), but what pushed me to buy the palette was the personal touch that Shane put on the products. How they named the eyeshadows cracked me up. It's fun, it's personal, not boring and basic like most eyeshadows' name in the market. I feel like I own a piece of both him and Jeffree. Also from product design point of view, the product is beautiful. The pyramid packaging, the quality of the eyeshadow pigments, I feel like aside of getting a merchandise from an idol, I also get a quality product.

Most companies today invest more than half their profit into advertising. It shouldn't be this way. A good product will get recognition advertisement or not, just by word of mouth. All of these products being shoved in our face is, at the least, irritating. And a huge stimulation of economy.

yeah, like, they're sheeps in a good way. i think people value him because he's really upfront and honest but also entertaining. like, they wouldn't buy a palette just because he puts one out, but rather se if it's worth they're money and they know it will be good because he invests more into his product with lower profit margins, putting more (than other companies) into the product rather than trying to produce them as cheap as possible.

Noel I have not tried it myself, I do not have a store set up just yet, I keep going back and forth on what products I want to sell, I really want to go the personalization route but I also want to test out simple drop shipping from AliExpress first. I think that if a influencer advertises the product well enough and shows it off and then asks them to check out their Instagram for the link then it will be no problem. Or maybe if you created a company tiktok, and posted your content on there and had the user @storeaccount for your product then you could put the website link in your description and as long as it’s a simple link then it shouldn’t stop a whole lot of people from visiting
