It's funny because RJ & Mikey are totally like Benji & Judy. RJ is very much like Benji, they both cook and just happy to serve their partner. While Judy & Mikey are the same, they are the artist, the entertainers LOL
Benji Costco is part owner of S&R that’s why you were seeing the Kirkland brand. I really enjoyed you giving a mini tour, prices and size of each item you shared. I always love grocery tours! I’m so happy that you were able to showcase your passion of cooking with Mikey and RJ. Also loved the 711 tour! Thank you for taking the time to share! ❤
S&R was named after Sol and Robert Price who founded PriceClub in the US. PriceClub is now Costco. Costco is a part owner of S&R. The volume of merch is tailored for Philippine shopping culture.
I asked my husband about eggs in the philippines and the US. Eggs in the US need to be refrigerated because it’s been clean, washed. The first layer of the egg is supposed to be to protect the egg, but if its washed, its more exposed now to bacteria. Eggs in the Philippines is never washed so no need to be refrigerate and meaning its still protected 😊
In Houston we have some two levels HEB stores that have the grocery cart escalators, but the grocery carts are put on one side and the person shopping travels down the escalator next to it so once on the bottom level you meet up with the groceries… and I’ve been to a Target in New York that has them as well. Anyway I’m thoroughly enjoying all the vlogs and can’t wait to see Japan again 😊
Yeah they have those everywhere throughout the U.S …especially two story Walmarts and targets, but like benji mentioned~ they don’t have the type shown in the vid
When I lived in Germany, no eggs were sold refrigerated either....you could tell they were unwashed,, feathers and all! However they told me that if they have been washed, they have to be refrigerated....
Benji, the travellator has grooves that match the wheels of the shopping trolley, enabling the trolley to lock into place, preventing it from rolling away uncontrollably. We have these in Australia.
Benji! You need to explore more stores and supermarkets or even malls in the Philippines. Funny how you think we're so behind but you'll see how we already have everything for years. 😂
We also have long-life-milk. Especially the elder Germans love things that can stay for a long time in the pantry. They learned from the war-generations before that it’s so important to have always all important food kind of available.
Such fun to follow you throughout this trip. Different but the same. Your glee at the ice cream choices had me cracking up! Seatown misses you all! 🌊🌊❤
We have that shopping cart escalator thingy here in America too Benji. It’s mostly in the big cities. I’m in Chicago and our city Whole Foods and Targets have it. Because these stores in our big cities are double levels. And their garage is below level. 😊
11:13 I looooooooove RJ! The fact that he got excited for Buko Pandan. I’m loving the vlogs from the Philippines. RJ and Mikey really are the sweetest human beings! The way they thought of building their house in a way to host family and friends. So great forward thinkers and also so thoughtful. The Filipino “Costco” is fun to see also.
True. I love both of them for like over 10 years already, such a soft spoken, smart and genuine couple. I even have a crush on Mikey back in the days lol
PANDAN flavored anything is absolutely delicious and gives me memories of my childhood! America Asian stores don't have anything pandan flavored anymore😭😭😭😭 totally living vicariously through you guys with this ice cream! 🥲
🥚🥚🥚 In Germany they also don’t refrigerate the eggs, because it’s not needed till the 18. day, because of their natural bacteria saving system. (Cuticular cellwall) Actually you don’t even habe to put them in the fridge at your home, but when you do, you can extend the best before date. ☺️
Benji they have those magnetic escalators in the Super Targets in N.Y, I;m not sure where else. But in Target the cart can go on the escalator without you and follow you up while you're on the regular escalator right beside it.
Hi Benji,I'm glad that you enjoying the stay in Phil.particularly to Mikey and RJ's place. You and RJ have a common in same things like cooking and looking the details before buying anything.Love watching you and RJ in your blog.Godbless❤
Wow nice to see you in the Philippines! Been a fan since I saw you at Sean Carnell’s video! I did not know that you’re somehow connected to Philippines! We also just moved here from Canada and now living in BGC and everything is mind blowing especially for our kids! The best decision we ever made!
Our eggs aren’t refrigerated in the shops because they aren’t washed, if they are washed it removes a coating that means they won’t last as long out of the fridge. I don’t keep my eggs in the fridge but I do wash them just before I use them in case any shell accidentally gets dropped in, don’t want poop or whatever in my food 😂 We also have the trolley escalators here, I’m shocked that you don’t have them in USA ❤
Very cool! Thank you for sharing their version of Costco. I was laughing at some of your comments bc it’s true! We’d have a whole aisle dedicated to cereal and the chives that size would be really expensive 😂. We have a downward escalator like what you and the cart were on, in San Diego, CA , at a grocery store downtown. Costco in CA also carries White Rabbit ice cream.
Yes! love seeing new products from different places! The malls and food supermarkets in India are like that too in Mumbai they garage is under the store and they have those magnetic walkelator like you said lol but they don't have rubber wheels so if u bang your foot or leg in it ouch!❤🎉
Love that you show us the food of the Philippines. Greetings from Germany and thank you for sharing. Looking forward for more food videos from your trip. 🥰🤤
Benji, S&R is partnered with Unioil, a local gas station. So, if you refuel your car there and present an S&R membership card, you will be eligible for a discount on the fuel.
The products there are catered to the needs of Filipinos. We don’t always buy bulk because our country is so humid and food gets easily decreased its product quality and shelf life. Something to think about. 😊
i see the s n r in manila offers a lot of choices but here in the province where i live we get frustrated because theres only a few.they just spread out the items to make it looks like they have lots lol, really weird
When you’re in the homeland, products tend to be smaller in size or not in bulk. Some people don’t have a lot of money! Also some products may not be here in the US probably coz of FDA regulations!
We do shop in S & R. The restaurant does great hot food (pizzas and burgers etc) but, as a Brit, I do find it a shame there is very little from back home (Johnnie Walker is about the only thing with a Union Jack - the Scots wouldn't be best pleased about that!). The Kirkland brand you see in Costco can be seen on a lot of products while recognisable UK brands like Cadbury's chocolate come from Australia rather than Bournville. They seem to be aiming more at American and Asian expats but I guess there are a lot more of them than those of us from Europe.
Its because we filipinos here in the pH we don't usually eat cereal in the morning , we prefer heavy breakfast like rice meals or if bread, we go pandesal and palaman like bacon, ham ,hotdogs eggs cheese or any spreads we like.. yum! You try go to LANDERS its a lot diiferent when it comes to options... LANDERS are better than S&R and alot of discounts too than S&R.. hope you can try Benjie going there and can't wait for your review
FYI... Raos marinara sauce is read as "rei-os" 🍝 By the way, the average Filipino cannot afford to buy groceries in bulk, hence the "tingi" (piecemeal) mindset, e.g., the sari-sari store.
Those cool flat escalators that hold the cart. We have them in canada. I love when benji vlogged s&r there was not many people and super cool things. Costco is always packed. 😂❤
I have talked with several S&R executives and store managers. They won't out right admit that S&R is Costco, but when pressed Filipinos don't like to lie or be deceitful. So, when pressed on the subject they will admit that due to Philippines Industry protection laws attempts to protect Philippine commercialism. One way around this for foreign companies is to partner with Filipinos. So, it is clear that S&R is Costco in every way but the name.
I enjoyed your trip to S-&R. Do they carry tortilla chips and fresh tortillas? If they do that help me a lot in terms of packing when go to Philippines. I wait for your response. Thank you.
3:30 I didn't know the Philippines doesn't refrigerate eggs. I saw this in Europe, too. But the reasons why may surprise you. I found this article from LA Times, but I encourage your own research: "Here’s why you have to refrigerate eggs in the U.S. but not in Europe. Though keeping eggs at room temperature is a perfectly good idea in Europe, because of differences in production practices, it can be very dangerous in the U.S. The reason comes down to how we treat one simple, very insidious little bug, salmonella, which can cause extreme digestive distress. It is so prevalent that it has been called a “national epidemic.” And when eggs are left at room temperature, salmonella can multiply quite rapidly, reaching dangerous levels within a matter of weeks. American egg producers focus on preventing contamination from the outside, so they are required by the USDA to thoroughly wash the eggs before they go to market. They’re rinsed in hot water, dried and sprayed with a chlorine mist almost as soon as they’re laid. Europeans take a different approach. In the United Kingdom, for example, producers instead vaccinate laying hens to prevent the transmission of salmonella. They then rely on a thin, naturally occurring coating called the cuticle, to prevent any contamination from the outside of the shell penetrating to the egg. British authorities actually discourage refrigerating eggs on the theory that chilling and then warming could create condensation, which would allow salmonella to penetrate the shell. In the U.S., this cuticle is removed during washing and even though some producers replace it with a light synthetic coating, regulations still require refrigeration. In the meantime, is there any harm in refrigerating eggs? Not really. There are those who argue that refrigeration thins the white. And certainly, storing eggs in a closed refrigerator along with strong-scented foods for too long will result in them picking up flavors."
Is it true that breads taste better in the Philippines because of the flour they use? I heard this from someone who visited the PH from the US recently
No bear brand it’s 90s kids fav lol tried first time when I was there last December lol that total in Canadian lol be more that’s how much cash I brought lol
