New to shore fishing. Really excited to get into shore fishing. Would definitely appreciate it to know some of these locations to try out.

Try using some big tube jigs for the lings. White mimics squid and orange and green mimics octopus which Lings love. 2.) add some eyes to the tube towards the back to make the tube really look like a squid or octopus. A magic marker and some imagination drawing works as well if you cant find epoxy eyes for lure making. Epoxy eyes ready to use can be found on Amazon. For Scent go with pro Cure Squid gel. You can even run a piece of sponge inside the tube to hold the scent better. The Gel version of Pro cure hold great and cleans up well, the added spong inside is something i did to make the tube even better. Gear wise rig up with a heavy rod like a 10ft Ugly stick 69.99 or the best you can afford but don't cheap it out on the reel. Buy a big Penn reel or Daiwa BG capable of holding 20-25 main line. Lings will dive for their holes thus you need power to blow a 20 lb ling out of its hole and actually be able to land it. Once they dive in a hole and lock in, game over. 80lb on the leader is not to big either. Lings are not line shy and will try to rub you off. I fish the Rocks of Carmel and Monterey and see anglers lose huge lings as they came with gear more suited for striped bass and basic surf tackle. The lighter stuff will work for cabezon and rock fish but if you looking for serious lings you gotta bring serious gear . A nice 48 inch double ring open crab net rigged on a rope does not hurt either for landing purposes Seen people attempt to land big lings getting way to close to the water and actually ended up going for a swim which is scary as it gets. WE loose a few anglers every year this way as they try to land a fish with and don't notice the oncoming waves.

If y'all like using squid for bait, I recommend looking into salt-curing your bait. When done properly, the squid toughens up and eliminates the need for refrigeration. Stripped perch are beautiful but they have very mushy meat. Rockfish and cabs are way better.
