Short barrel 9mm test: Inceptor ARX vs Federal HST 

I did that previously with the 380 and that vid is posted. If I find some of the extreme defenders in 9mm next time I'm ordering ammo I'll try to get a box to test.

HST is still my 9 round of choice. But these non-expanding defensive rounds are very interesting and I prefer them in the short 380s (2.75" range).

I think it's close to a 'real world' test and can be duplicated pretty easily/inexpensively.

Only issue is is that there is high speed video, and the only time they tumble is at the end of their wound track. The flutes do leverage I think it's called the Venturi effect.

I agree that speed is vital. So many HP rounds don't perform out of concealed carry length barrels but these non-expanding rounds seem to pretty well. I have the .45 rounds as well and plan to test them side by side with the HST rounds in the near future.

​​​​​​@@NorthwoodsTestingl carry Federal HI-SHOK 115 gain 9BP or Federal 115 grain +P+ 9BPLE because they come in 50 round boxes perform well and l can afford to buy 200-250 rounds a year they are not the best but are high quality reliable and dependable I'm pretty lucky l have a brick and mortar store very close l get 50 rounds of 9mm Federal HI-SHOK 115 grain JHP 9BP or 115 grain JHP +P+ 9BPLE for 20 dollars plus tax and I'm not complaining it's affordable same store has 100 rounds of Federal brass 115 gain FMJs for 24 dollars is pretty much all the 9mm I've been buying the other ammo shooting habits include 357 SIG 10mm 556 12 gauge shotgun 22LR 22 Magnum l have 45acp 40SW 38 special but have the least interest and don't shoot these 3 calibers much the 45acp has a 5.2 inch threaded 10mm barrel and 4 magazines for 10mm combo stock Glock 21 gen 4 the 40SW has a 357 SIG barrel combo SIG P320 fullsize 4.7 barrel with a Apex trigger in a SIG Xframe love both of these guns wish it didn't cost a arm and a leg to feed them much prefer the 10mm over the 45acp and much prefer the 357 SIG over 40SW 10mm is expensive right now 357 SIG ammo is really expensive and prefer and enjoy shooting 9mm over 45acp and 40SW but not 10mm or 357 SIG

@@gloriamaletta8667 I also bought a case of the 9BPLE recently, but I'm hesitant to put much of it through my short barrel/polymer 9s. I've been looking at the 357 SIG conversion barrels for my G22/27, but haven't yet. I found a case of 357 SIG gold dots that's under $500, but not sure it's worth adding another caliber to the collection.

​@@NorthwoodsTestinghad three different sized guns chronograph with Federal 115 grain 9mm HI-SHOK JHPs 9BP and Federal 115 grain +P+ JHPs 9BLE the 1st gun SIG P320 Carry 4.6 inch threaded barrel 9BP ammo 1120fps and with 9BLE +P+ ammo 1250fps 2nd gun a SIG P320 Carry 3.9 inch barrel 9BP ammo 1100fps and with 9BLE +P+ ammo 1220fps 3rd gun SIG P365 3.1 inch barrel with 9BP ammo 1050fps and with 9BLE +P+ 1170fps are the numbers l got and up or down 30fps is normal every round wasn't exactly the same 5 shot average and rounded off numbers there could be a 1-9 on the last digits so 100+ fps more with +P+ over standard pressure

@@gloriamaletta8667 I like the velocity, just concerned about the increased pressure causing wear and tear.i believe that round has 40,000 psi and I don't know of a manufacturer that says officially that is safe to use in their products. I've seen tests with it and it's still a viable choice though

They look pretty similar to me in composition and weights. These non-expanding defensive rounds are pretty new to me and so far I've been impressed with how they test.

I can watch out for a box or two next time I order ammo. Appears there are 4 different varieties currently in 9mm.

Sorry to hear, but no. Honestly I don't know how to remove comments made by others and wouldn't if I could. Everyone has a right to an opinion I figure if I post something here publicly. I appreciate anyone taking the time to watch and comment. I've learned a lot just from people sharing here.

I try to test from approx the same distances just for comparable results. There may be instances where 25+ yards is appropriate for self-defense scenarios, but I believe most data shows it's generally much closer.

@@NorthwoodsTesting absolutely correct... my wonder is whether the ARX bullets' energy/speed drops off rapidly, or how far they carry that energy, being only about half the weight of a "real" bullet.

@@NorthwoodsTesting i'm not sure about that . For example the Federal HST is not an acronym for anything. That's just a three letter name they came up with. That could be the same for the ARX. But either way, I did enjoy your presentation. I find self defense ammo comparisons very interesting…thank you.

@@Mbartel500 see I always thought HST stood for Hydra-Shok Two, but was easier to say/less confusing.

A simple inquiry to the ARX manufacturer would verify the name. (A-R-X)

@@NorthwoodsTesting What HST stands for is a mystery. It might even mean Hi-Shok Two. Which would mean an updated version of Federal's hollow point design that was without the center post.
