Just a short ride to show you how the restricted CB650R (A2, 35kW) rides. Nothing fancy really. But maybe potential buyers want to see what it can do before they purchase a restricted CB650R.

Nice video dude. Same with my SV650 ( A2 restricted). I can hardly go beyond 160km/h.
@MotoSnax
@MotoSnax 4 года назад
Thanks. See the pinned link for the top speed (179 km/h). Only in ideal conditions. For the SV650A A2 it was 174 km/h. See ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-sfU7k7XlvuM.html . But normally above 160 km/h is tough. Fast enough to ride around. Once the restriction gets removed from your SV650A it feels like a complete different bike. Such a power and torque. I love the full power SV.

Hello, thanks for the review. Recently got my restricted licence in Au. I’m trying to decide between the CB650R and Z650, both restricted. My observations based on a quick test ride: CB650R: high frequency vibrations to hands and feet, more forward sitting position, smooth acceleration not jerky, stable. Z650 (very short test ride): more torque, more upright (better) riding position, slow turns easier (lighter steering), but jerky throttle at first gear take off. Which bike would you recommend? Also, which one is less vibey? Thanks. Regards
@MotoSnax
@MotoSnax 2 года назад
Restricted would recommend the Z650 as it has two cylinders so more torque at lower revs. Full power I might probably choose the CB650R if there are not too many speed restrictions in your country. Over here a lot of speed cameras and traction control over certrain stretches of road.

'Love the vid. I'm from staya(Aus) and trying to decide between this and the SV650 full version but I really like this, should I just deal with the restriction on the cb650r until the warranty is up then de restrict? thoughts/advice
@MotoSnax
@MotoSnax Год назад
If you are allowed to ride a full power SV650 or a restricted CB650R, I would buy the SV. Restricting a four cylinder engine is worse than a two cylinder engine as the fun on a 4 cyl starts when the restriction comes in. With a full powered SV you can enjoy the entire rpm range.

Around 1 liter per 20 kilometers. If you ride a lot faster, 1 liter per 17.6 km's in my case.

Can you restrict and derestrict the bike on your own?
@MotoSnax
@MotoSnax 3 года назад
Technically, yes. But it depends on laws in your country. And your registration must be changed at the bureau where they handle license plates and ownerships of vehicles etc. and of course the insurance should know about it. Over here the dealership should do it.

All are pretty good for the A2 license, but I think I'd go with a bike with two cylinders e.g. MT-07 or Ninja 650. The Ninja 650 with 35kW was the fastest 35kW bike I rode. And best part is that if you don't ride on the freeway you don't even feel it is restricted. It had me fooled. I could only notice it on the freeway (or when going full throttle on a long stretch of road). MT-07 is nice too but no fairing. CB650R; the real fun starts when the restriction joins the party. I'd love to have a CB650R unrestricted. But don't get me wrong, with restriction the CB650R is pretty good too, but if you like torque, buy a twin.

MotoSnax great Thanks a lot I guess it’s now a choice between a cbr500r which I love or a restricted ninja 650 but I think ninja ? They’ll both be around the same anyway !
@MotoSnax
@MotoSnax 4 года назад
The restricted Ninja 650 has probably more torque. Also check the wet weight of both bikes. Next to that, after 2 years the Ninja 650 can be set to full power as where the CBR500R is already there and you can't make it faster besides spending a lot of money on that bike.

Just got my cb650r A2 yesterday. But.... I dont think they got the restriction correct. They said the restriction consisted of new air funnels and a remap of the ECU. They told me they had some issues rewriting the ECU. The bike wont go beyond 8.000 RPM, like a rev limiter, will barely do 60kmh in first gear. When I read about the bike it should do have 70kw at 12.000rpm full, and 35kw at 10.500 as A2. Mine wont go over 8.000, so there has got to be something wrong here? Will be heading to the dealership on monday
@MotoSnax
@MotoSnax 4 года назад
It should do more than 8000 rpm. So it is good to visit the dealership. In first gear you should be able to go over 100 km/h in A2 trim. Or did they perhaps change the ECU mapping so you can't get past 8000 rpm during the ride-in period?
@magnuss2916

@@MotoSnax Went to the dealership yesterday. They didn't know the bike had a rev limiter, but they assumed it had something to do with the ride-in period. When I reach the first 1000km ill have the first service and they will remove it.

Would you recommend this or CB500f for A2? CB500f would be of course cheaper and would have a little bit more throttle, but CB650r interests with its big engine! And it could be non-restricted then, when I could get an A-dricing license. And basically I could drive CB650r without restriction, because police doesn't observe those things often, at least I have heard that. I'm now 16 years old and I have Duke 125 ( a very good bike btw!). Would it be a too big jump to go from 125 to full power 650?
@MotoSnax
@MotoSnax 4 года назад
I think the CB500F will be a little bit faster on the highway compared to the restricted CB650R. If you have your full license, the CB650R will be much more fun than the CB500F. The 500 will be boring sooner than the 650. Jumping from 125cc to a full power 650 is a pretty big jump. The restricted 650 but also the CB500F will feel like a rocket compared to 125cc. I reviewed a Z125 last year. After that I took a Z400 with me. I felt what it would be like to go from A1 to A2. Even that was a huge jump. It felt I needed nothing more than that. So going from 125cc 15 hp to 90 hp and a LOT more torque... be sure to wear a diaper if you go full throttle. :D
@paavovalkama3745
@paavovalkama3745 4 года назад
@@MotoSnax Thanks for your answer! I thought that jumping from 125 to full 650 would be a huge jump too! But luckily I have a couple years to think about it. Now after your opinion I think restricted 650r is more than enough, because it's so big jump from 125 and in Finland we are only allowed to drive 120 km/h. And even after that 650r is a couple thousand euros more expensive, it will be worth it at the latest when or if I someday get an A-driving license! Then it will be so much fun and after 125 restricted 650r will be like from Heaven! :D
@MotoSnax
@MotoSnax 4 года назад
In my opinion I think 48 hp is enough. Even restricted it has enough torque. Sure, more hp and torque is always nice to have, but not necessary. A bike with less hp and torque will get an issue if you ride a lot with passenger. Then I would suggest to buy something with more cc's (so more torque) and more hp.
@paavovalkama3745

There is quite a big difference, it pulls a lot harder. But for every day travel this is sufficient. Except on the freeway a bit more power would be nice. But young riders only have to ride like this for the first 2 years. After that: restriction removed.
