It feels particularly fortuitous to be rehearsing Beethoven's Ninth symphony with Monteverdi Choir & Orchestras on this of all days. This work, commissioned by the Philharmonic Society of London (today known as Royal Philharmonic Society), was premiered 200 years ago today in Vienna. Here's the view from my music stand this afternoon during our rehearsals... one of my favourite bits where us horns get the BIG tune.
