I haven't ridden the Shotgun, but I own a Super Meteor 650 and it's just brilliant 😃 It's the most comfortable and confidence inspiring bike that I have ever ridden! Loads of character too 😎

I'd buy one but won't for 1 reason and it isn't even the bikes fault, and it's more a rural issue. Riding rural you have a lot of old farmers sitting on 80/90 in 100k zone. While you have enough power to pick your gaps to overtake safely old farmer Joe has another idea and decides to floor it closing your once safe gap. Waiting on a higher hp closer to 60ish atleast from Royal Enfield to be able to not worry about dangerous drivers.

Yeah it's interesting Des, I completely forgot about the Super Meteor and that I'd even ridden it. Very telling that the Interceptor and Continental GT were more forward in my mind. The ranking order for me personally would be 1. Shotgun, 2. Continental GT, 3. Interceptor and 4. Super Meteor. But that's just me, the order could be completely reversed for someone else.

Looks stunning in white. The pillion seat with the rack underneath is a great idea. My current "around town bike" is a classic 350. RE have definitely arrived. You quite often hear the fraze "it's good for the money". They're simply good bikes period!

I thought a software patch on the Tripper screen would be a nice feature. Being a graphic screen it could display the RPM as a needle on a rotary dial appearing display, possibly selected by the option button.

Thanks for posting this, only yesterday the 23.05.24 I was at my local Royal Enfield dealer looking at both the new Royal Enfield Himalayan 450cc and the Shotgun models. I didn't have a chance to take either of them for a test ride but I will get around to it

The biggest gripe I have with the SG650 is the positioning of the usb charger port. Such a great bike and an absurd design miss! Also imagine the speedometer console of the Himalayan450 on this along with the kill switch, light switches from the 450. It’d really go a long way uncompromised. I wish the custom badge it gets from RE really justifies itself and allows us to do those mods easily later.

It looks like the stiff suspension would be fixed with higher quality back shocks, or trying different preload adjustments for the back shocks.

Attempting multiple shock preload adjustments on a test ride with similar jolting characteristic at any setting ( I'm 100kg) I wondering whether it is over damped?. The preload is set when static and is a pretty obvious set-up by simply checking the suspension movement when sitting on the bike but I'm guessing the oil can't be changed in thr rear shock, and they are not damping adjustable.

Thank you for this wonderful review. Enjoyed it all from beginning to end but probably my favorite bit is 18:50 where you got on to a straight lane and had a chance to throttle up and then down shift to a corner. What ever sound set up you had working at the moment it worked for me because I could listen to your voice no problem while enjoying the sounds of the engine. --- I´m about your height and looking for a "in town" bike. Your review helped me a lot. Thank you.

Great vid! I have the same one but I have seen in city traffic conditions and ambient temperatures of about 30 degrees, I face heating issues, was just wondering if you have faced any such stuff?

Some unknown reason this bike reminds me of a Buell M2 I owned which was an indestructible pig but it had feel and character. This bike brings back that feel and character of Elizabeth St in Melbourne being absolutely packed with bikes on a a Saturday morning. I want to feel that again and will check this bike out. Ive ordered the sheet metal grey, hasn't made it to the west coast yet. Where was the microphone as it sounded so sweet on your test ride. Was it the same in your helmet.

Cheers. I had a lav mic in my helmet running to a recorder. And a separate recorder in a pocket in the back of my jacket to record engine/exhaust audio

240kg heavy is 80's superbike level of heft, but with only a 650 twin. What happened to the future? As for the horrible modern asymmetrical instrument cluster 😢

For me, the Shotgun is a cross between the Interceptor and Continental. The Super Meteor is more of a cruiser.

My only concern is that these models are air cooled. I live in Phoenix and the weather gets hotter then the depths of Hades. I can't imagine these bikes holding up well in any kind of stop and go traffic in the heat of an Arizonan summer. Any comments from owners who have experience with this issue?

It is 52 degree Celsius in Delhi today. Does it get that hot.

@@vishnumohannair8506 that is 125 degrees Fahrenheit and yes that's hot! So do you ride an air cooled Royal Enfield in that kind of heat and if so, does it overheat?

Love the colour. And really looking forward to seeing your Himalayan review. I actually want the original model of Himalayan, better late than never. Rented a Hunter 350 in Phuket for 3 days touring and loved the quality of that too.

Hi Paul, how would you compare the riding comfort of the Shotgun compared to the Super Meteor you reviewed a year or so ago, i owned the Super Meteor but had a painful experience with the seat

I liked the Shotgun much better David. To be honest and on reflection, the Shotgun seat looks very similar to the Super Meteor seat. But the difference is that you take more of your body weight on your arms on the Shotgun, which for me makes it more comfortable. The Super Meteor has you in 'cruiser' mode, which means you're sitting more upright, and the seat needs to do more work... if that makes sense?

Whether you should wait, or cancel is completely up to you. But I do believe the Shotgun will offer a different riding experience to the bikes you already own.

Looked like there's a tall, domed nut, fitted under the outer end of the foot peg. Presumably designed to be 'sacrificial' and hit the ground first, which might explain why you wouldn't necessarily expect it?

Yep, I've ground them down a bit on my Chief. It just took me by surprise this time on the Shotgun as I really wasn't expecting it. I'm now wondering if there might have been a bit of raised bitumen on that section of road? Because typically they just scrape, but this bit harder.

Nice smooth riding. Do you think the decals on the tank (where the knees are) will be susceptible to being scratched?

Cheers. It'll depend on your riding style. Typically, I don't grip the tank with my knees, but I do believe the tank graphics are under clear coat. If they were just stuck on, I reckon I would've noticed that.
