I feel such a deep sympathy for the unfortunate events that led to the world of girls last tour. Imagine a world filled with so much history go to such a waste. Our potatoes don't deserve this. 😭
luckily, it's almost impossible for our world to become forever lifeless. even if humans die out, we will most likely not be the last life on earth. even if we launch every nuke on the planet.
We are slowly heading to such a world 🥺 our greed, our reckless consumerism... Global warming, exhausting resources, discussions to correct ourselves getting nowhere, literal empathy of youngsters after witnessing all this sh*t.... I see a future, 50-60 years into 21st century where a bunch of humans being the final representatives of our civilization, devoid of resources to run the civilization, space already filled with junks, making even escaping to space impossible, don't know what to do, deciding to blame each other & destroying themselves, and one or two lone survivors being the last humans on the face of earth.
This song, the manga and the anime, are actual masterpieces. It always hurts me when people don't want to give anime a chance because it is "cringe" when they are missing out on such an experience and art. Beautiful.
The nuko are so fascinating. I love the series' restraint in not telling exactly where they came from or for what reason. Their purpose feels almost religious. Its somber and almost a little sinister but they arent frightening or evil. They're actually rather warm and kind beings. It would have been easy to play them for cosmic horror but instead they're some of the most beautiful things left for our little endlings to witness. And I love the intentional mystery of whether they actually know about the other two or not. They openly state they dont know for certain and we never get a very clear picture of how common they are around the rest of the superstructure. Maybe there are other people left in this world, but the sad thing is it wouldn't make a difference either way. Resources are gone, and soon the world will be reduced entropic calm by the cutest things to ever live. What sad, beautiful little story.
My guess is that they're the endpoint of a long line of artificial evolution. During the history of humanity scene in the submarine, there's a moment when a couple of girls show of an invention of theirs - a small robot that can apparently both self replicate and self-improve, which, coincidentally, happens to also be the same colour as the Nukos. Give a machine that can do those things enough time to themselves and it seems likely some kind of advanced, techno-organic life is inevitable. It certainly explains why the Nukos talk via radio waves, can interface with machinery, and eat all sorts of non-organic substances to survive. They also appear - at least in my opinion - to answer a rather auspicious and morbid question about the world and its history. Namely, where are all the dead people? In a place where it's pretty much constantly covered by nuclear winter (frozen, no decay), featuring a collapsed society that appears to have been inhabited at least semi-recently (judging by how much of the infrastructure still works without maintenance), one with literally no animal life (scavengers) to disturb it, there is a very suspicious lack of human remains anywhere, not even a single stray bone. Millions of people used to live there and now it's just a ghost town? Nope. The Nukos ate them all, since they straight up tell you they're all about lowering that entropy. It's not even something they began doing after the downfall. In a civilization with no soil to bury, no wood to burn, fuel too precious, and too cold and lifeless for a corpse to decompose on its own, how do you get rid of a body? Easy, you feed it to the Nukos. It's why statues of them feature heavily in the religion, why one watches over the tiny graves for their belongings, and why they're depicted in the people's vision of the afterlife. Because by eating the dead, it's seen as if they're the ones who transport souls to the other side. There's just so many cool details that seem to go together so neatly in this show. Do wish another season would come and finish it.
@@TheSpinkels my interpretation mostly lines up with yours except on one major point: I think those evolving machines became the AI gods that run the city and were worshipped, and that they created the Nuko in their own image to act as their agents in the material world. This I think would pretty neatly explain their entropic motivation. The AI we meet is suicidal. It recognizes the world is ending, and wants to lay it to rest. So their servants have been giving the task of putting the world to rest Edit: also I'm like 90% sure the Nuko eating corpses thing is outright stated, there's no need to speculate there, I'm pretty sure they just say that
@@2Kz626 The girls give them that name though, it's just a play on "neko" which is japanese for cat. They're like a cat but not, so Nuko instead of Neko, and "Cut" instead of Cat in the english localization.

Having read the end of the manga, the title having such a name for a song like this isn't so helpful with feels.... And its no help furthermore that the radio version gives me wordless nostalgia..... as in nostalgia that I want to describe but I can't.... WAI T~T
Almost a year since I first finished the story of the potatoes and it really marked a before and after in my life, both the anime and the manga are despairingly beautiful, the scenery and the loneliness of their world really translates into what a lot of us feel inside. and this song, this edit in particular, has something that just helps you go along with the sadness.
It's over 2 weeks since I'm replaying this music at least once everyday. It's not just the music, but the overwhelming emotions and meaning the music gives to the show. The last song heard by the last humans on earth, the song which made them cry (perhaps even if they don't know the meaning, just like us) and making them looking at the setting sun & enjoying it's haunting beauty. This song is, and will be my favorite of all time and I'll return to it again and again until I say goodbye to the world.
you who maybe will read this comment, the world is big and beautiful, enjoy your life as if it were your last day, live to the fullest, enjoy everything you have the opportunity to enjoy, spend time with the people that are important to you, go out meet places, talk, smile, be happy, travel, look at the stars during a cold night, see the sun fade in a warm afternoon, make the most of life, because one hour all this may not exist anymore, and this anime made me think deeply in all of this, our time is too short, and this world is so big, so don't waste time, do what you have to do and keep on living.
"Owari no Ute" pretty much translates to "End Song", which is pretty much completely sums up what the world in Girls' Last Tour has become: empty and bleak.
I remember listening to this on Thanksgiving day while deployed overseas in Poland, I was in my one man tent snuggled up in my winter sleeping bag outside of my stryker and hearing it while trying to keep warm and fell asleep I felt like they did, it was peaceful but extremely sad.

Red light is a sad light, or maybe it's the song. The sunset is beautiful, looking like a reverse Japanese flag; a white circle surrounded by red. It almost makes you forget that a legion of sentient carrion eating fungoids just went through the city devouring all the dead bodies. So poetic. I hope that didn't kill the mood for anyone. Nature just doing it's thing even at the end.

It's been quite some times I was looking for this song, I couldn't find any release or Official release, I put it on my Soundcloud account so I could listen to it whenever I want, It was a raw file y'know. Directly taken from the scene without any edit.
When listening to this, it projects a story from start to finish; in my perspective, it's a story that needs no words nor speech, just music, movement and an appropriate setting. For me, I imagine Raymond Briggs' "The Snowman" and "The Little Matchgirl", by Hans Christian Andersen.
This anime reminds me a lot of Kino's Journey (2003) in the way of how its so quiet and features one main person (and one motorrad) throughout the whole show. Its really gets me to think. And the ost is great

It took me more 6 years to actually return to the manga(last time I've read it was in 2016) and back then there was no version like this. It cuts depeer mostly because it does much, much more for the immersion. It might be closest to the "proper" Owari no Uta. The one heard in radio Chii and Yuuri took from the graveyard. Weird, but it makes you "feel" the desolation and how dead the world is.

@@RyanHaynieWX I cried for hours and that mod made me realize how you never really realize how much someone means to you until there gone(example)my grandma used to call me everyday after school and ask me about my day and she would get on to me anytime I got in trouble or didn't do homework then she passed away and I never got those calls anymore and I used to be annoyed by them but now I'd do anything to hear her again and time really is scary it's unpredictable you never know when a loved one will pass on and you never know how much or how little you have to live and now I cherish my family and I try to talk to them everyday cause I never know when I'll see them again btw I'm crying like crazy right now so sorry if this doesn't make sense
ImDepressed just another reason to cherish each day we have on this earth and not let it go to waste. Tomorrow is never guaranteed for anyone. Keep your friends close and your loved ones closer. That way you won’t have any regrets if anything either happened to you or them. But in all seriousness this game made me have a hard look at myself and what I’ve been doing wrong for so many years. This is so relaxing, i listen to this before going to sleep like a lullaby. This and Komm, süsser Tod are the perfect songs to play at the end of times, when our fleeting existence returns to nothingness, when our entire history will become just a memory among the stars.

it is easy, if you know how to eq. -Remove the bass, increase the mid. -add plenty of compression -add a touch of reverb to make it sounds like the radio is not in your ear, rather just infront of you
