I agree, it would definitely make you feel like a fish out of water. But it's not something that's unheard of. Some of my Muslim friends have been educated in Catholic schools, my own father as well in the Carribean in an Anglican school (but that was because of colonialism, so folks were beaten by nuns and stuff, but somewhere through it my Muslim father still found value in certain aspects of the canonical Western education). I think if you put your children in those schools, I think it's important to also teach them your own value system within your own home. There are always going to be challenges regardless. But I think putting them into a religious school, should definitely be when the children are older and have faculties of reason and not preschool/elementary like the caller is thinking of signing them up for.

My mum was catholic and my father was atheist, I was sent to a Christian school - it was a given and I was on the wait list since I was 3 or 4 years old. But religion was never a topic of contention, it was always up to me what I believed and I found my way to Jesus later on in life. I loved school despite considering myself an atheist at the time. The underpinnings of the morality that come through are wonderful.

Most Christian schools have a "statement of faith" that needs to be signed before attendance. That might put an end to the debate before it even starts. I suggest the caller needs to go find a secular private school that teaches his preferred values and send them there.

Actually In the catholic faith this practice of not allowing other people of other faith or ideas join their schools is no longer practiced for a very long time now. And as you may be aware Catholicism is the oldest form of Christianity. Just researching into google the first thing that pops up is and I quote “Contrary to what you might assume, Catholic schools don't usually restrict attendance to those of the Catholic faith. In fact, most schools today accept students regardless of their religious beliefs because many institutions have become more inclusive over the past few decades” as a former catholic my family went to schools with people of all religions and ideologies. If the new born Christian schools won’t take them I’m sure the catholic ones will.
@MichaelJones-rn2pq

@@rainemonet That is probably true about Catholic schools, but I don't know of a single non-Catholic Christian school (including Lutheran) that doesn't require a statement of faith. If dad wants the child to learn morals, ethics, and structure, the child will learn that watching his parents. I am an atheist, since I was 16. I had such a great time in private Christian school, if I change my mind and have kids some day… they’re 100% going to private school. I felt genuinely cared for and supported and it was a small, family-like environment. I’d want my kids to have that. Plus, the quality of our public schools are plummeting here in the US. In some states, there isn't a single quality public school in the entire country. I remember growing up, my brother and I attended (non-religious) private schools, while my step-siblings attended public school, and I distinctly remember graduating having had entire courses on subjects that my step-siblings' education never even touched upon. This isn't to say I find myself in any way superior to them, and it's not my intention to come across as such. They're both incredibly intelligent people. This is me commenting on the education they received, not them. I'm simply saying that when you find yourself learning about subjects neither of your step-siblings knew the first thing about upon graduation, it makes a statement about who received the better education. Same held true for my brother. Personally, I think non-religious private school is the way to go.

I used to be a fundamentalist Christian and over time rejected the fundamentalism through study of the Bible, language, translations and historical/church history based on my theological beliefs. I still believe the Bible holds tons of truths though and is overall great for society. It's sad to see how many people have rejected the common sense morals of the Bible overall even if I can grant some people's concerns of some of the morals also. With people rejecting their moral compass the world has clearly gone mad to the point of rejecting basic male and female. Talk about a way to destroy your identity and never have a foundation! Either way--the guy's probably right as long as the school upholds the basic morals of the Bible. It's better for humanity--but it will very likely cause problems one day if they do send their (now 1 year old) kid to a Christian school one day. Just not now. They won't have problems til the children talk and explain their beliefs back and find pushback from mom.

My sister and I were sent to a Catholic convent for a year because my father was ill. (5th & 6th grade). We weren't Catholic. It was a big change because of the religion and having to live there. But in hindsight now, we were in a safe place and we got a good education. The downside was we felt a little bit like heathens because we weren't religious. We had to take religion class and we had to go to mass once a week on Sunday at a nearby church and once a month we had a big mass for all the students at the Convent. The worst thing that happened was when my sister and I got pushed in a line by other students to get communion from a priest. We were new to the school and the other students didn't understand that we didn't belong up there. And we didn't know what was going on. My sister and I were nervous being in line and I told my younger sister to pay attention to what was happening and just do what everyone else was doing. So we did. We eventually got to the priest and we took the wafer in our mouth and gave the sign of the cross and walked away thinking to ourselves what the heck was all that about. After the mass, we were told to go to one of the Sister's offices and we got yelled at were told that God was going to strike us down dead with lightening! After the Sister stopped yelling at us, I asked her if I could speak and I said "Surely the God you teach us about every week is not going to strike two children down dead with lightening when they had absolutely no idea what they were doing." She then proceeded to yell again and told us to leave her office. I have to say that I am glad I had the experience of living in a convent for a year because it opened up my world a little bit more. We were very sheltered and I learned that not all people live the way my family did. It taught me to have an open mind.

I took my child to the church in very early age and I bought Bible stories, prayers and songs books for lids . but I know when she will decide if she want to go to the ⛪ later

Why waste a huge amount of money sending them to a private, Christian school, if you are going to send them to Sunday school on top of things? Especially if you aren't that religious and are having troubles with your wife because of it. Just send them to Sunday school if you are that scared they might be missing out on something.

As an atheist who went to a private religious K-12, there are good reasons to get away from the public schools.... probably worth the money. If I was choosing, I'd take the school and not the church, but really, I don't think the development of values should be farmed out in the first place.

With due respect to people of faith, i know a lot of hypocrite christians who are arrogant and abusive. I have an aunt who posts regularly in facebook about her faith in God and being a good follower of christian faith. Behind the door, she was abusive to her siblings and look down on them. One time she hit my older sister and left a scratch on her face and even said bad things about our dad who passed away 5yrs ago from a cardiac arrest. I was born and raised with Christian faith, but I will never treat her with the same respect i had to her.

I’m mixed indigenous (mohawk) and 3 varieties of “white” (Swedish, Irish, Scot) and I never went to church, because of being raised more indigenously. Was raised to have raw nature be the best place to come to the creator. I feel now at 39 more open to everything than I ever was. I like to study all of it now. I respect that things which preach kindness and logic and compassion. Always I reassess to know it’s me who believes something and who I am. I’m probably a mix between agnostic and pagan and animistic based on how I was raised and what I now believe. I personally enjoy some Christian beliefs and principles. I feel like you should just as a parent provide a safe environment which makes it easy to be safe for your kids be allowed to see what they like for themselves. I would personally have never sent my kids to a Christian school growing up as I thought it was indoctrination and I still kind of do, but I’d never send my kids to a public school now, not with how the states have become, that’s just insanity. We are living in a weird world and I think now more than ever we should just provide safer environments showing a variety of belief systems so kids can know what resonates for them. I saw an atheist down here in comments somewhere say they’d rather send their kid to a Christian school than a public one. I so agree. Maybe emphasize to your wife and kids before they start if you choose to send them there, that she is also allowed to share her own beliefs and that we can all be different and you guys share what you believe and want them to see for themselves what they believe and tell them it’s ok to believe or not believe what their formal school says and also to believe or not believe what dad or mom have as their faiths and to treat everything as guideposts rather than absolutes. I always hated church, never went & would have hated being forced but maybe it’s an opportunity with your inner family to explore many varieties of thought. That would be one cool family imho.

It’s a great idea! Find the academic record of the school and make the conversation about the reputation for a great education. Who cares what type of school it is of like 80% of their graduates go to college or university or on to a successful career? Are they caring? Do they have good teachers? Compare that with public schools who are getting famous for the wrong things these days, distracting from classical education. Most Christian schools know not everybody there is Christian and will respect it if you ask that your kids opt out of certain lessons. The school will teach what it teaches and the kid will be exposed to Christian ideas… The best thing we did before choosing schools was pick 5/15 nearby and schedule visits. That told us everything we needed to know! We saw private, public, charter, Christian, and Jewish. We wound up picking for the teachers and the child’s comfort level. Only 1 school did we adore the teacher right way and the same school was the only 1 where our kid began playing in the classroom. She liked it and was comfortable right away during the visit. That was it. Best. It was the best choice! It happened to be Christian and what a community! When one 1st hear preschool student got cancer all the fundraisers went to his family for his treatment or anything else they needed. It is a phenomenal place! I didn’t know how lucky we were. Recently moved out of that state for other opportunities and now at public schools. The top 2 public schools in this state with an amazing robotics program. But. It’s not the same. The teachers are great. And the kids are doing ok. But it’s different and they’re different. They used to say “we get to go to school today!” Now they say, “aw man. We have to go to school today?” It was a privilege.

Christianity is a faith about Jesus Christ. A man who gave up all of his self for the sake of others. He died on a cross for the sins of all humanity, especially atheists whom He loved so much regardless of whether they love Him back, and the only thing he asks in return is to accept this gift by taking up the same cross _metaphorically_ by loving our neighbours, strangers, the poor, the weak and the broken-hearted. This caller and many other commenters on this video say, “I like the ‘love me’ and ‘do good to me’ part that is socially conservative,” (what does that even mean?! Jesus wasn’t a Conservative or a Liberal) but I definitely don’t want anything to do with the “take up your cross” or “die to self” (metaphorical) or the “love God with all your MIND” part of Christianity. A bunch of atheists proving why they are atheists.

Problem is, the Bible is the world's oldest Rorschach Test. Everyone who reads it sees something different. You don't need to subscribe to any particular theology to be a good person and know that life is better for all concerned if we treat others the way we want to be treated. Religions use fear and intimidation through their own interpretations of "God's Word" in order to indoctrinate/intimidate people and keep church coffers full. That practice doesn't align with the Golden Rule by any stretch of the imagination. Furthermore, I cannot believe it's what a loving creator would want of us.

Lots of hypocritical Christians but there are some who are not. Few. God is not interested in quantity but quality. God don't need us. He can destroy all of us and start over. But he is keeping his promise. To save obedient ones for his new paradise on earth. There ought to be a standard. A requirement. We see this in colleges etc. Jesus said to seek God's Righteousness. That's his standards. Start studying the Bible. You do not need to accept but study.
