On this episode, Dr. Esau McCaulley discusses the question of whether black people should trust the Bible. He argues that rather than looking at individual passages in isolation, we should understand the overall narrative of the Bible as a story of liberation from slavery. He also discusses the tension between passages in the Bible that allow for slavery and the liberative narrative that runs throughout, arguing that the God of the Bible is a God of freedom who values the dignity and worth of all people.
Dr. McCaulley emphasizes that trust in the scriptures is a manifestation of our trust in God and that reading the Bible correctly should lead us to live like Jesus. He also touches on the issue of hypocrisy within the church and the importance of looking beyond the few negative examples to the faithful ministries of the majority.

This is NOT correct. Sometimes the text that one is calling "scripture" is incorrect. The reader is not always wrong if the text makes one less like Christ. A statement like this suggests that everything in the Bible is consistent in what it does. That is NOT true either. The Bible is an anthology of writings. Some parts of it are absolutely toxic because the men who wrote it were toxic in their thinking.

There is one better than Jesus... Daniel 12:1 King James Version 12 And at that time shall Michael stand up, the great prince which standeth for the children of thy people: and there shall be a time of trouble, such as never was since there was a nation even to that same time: and at that time thy people shall be delivered, every one that shall be found written in the book.

The problem with Blacks, is that we accept and believe everything our enemies put before us and not researching it to see if it's true, the slaves didn't bring the bible here with them on the slave Ships, it was already on the plantations when they arrived, Christianity was taught to our ancestors by the slave owners and passed down to them after they were freed, the slaves accepted this bible , never asking where it came from or who wrote it, black preachers and church people today are still preaching and teaching from this same bible that was passed down to our ancestors.

God called Israel to "be a light unto the nations" Isaiah 42:1-6. But here's something else, He never desired for sin to blight our understanding and a veil to be over our hearts. We, the human race was created emulate His Holiness and power in relation to Him! We were to communicate with Him "in Spirit and Truth" before sin infected us, i.e. the human race. We were to be glorious. This is something we need to remind all. The original intent for Creation before the fall.

If they knew their Bible they would see the UNIVERSAL NEED OF SALVATION for all of humanity. Hence the person of Jesus Christ, the gospel being the "power of God of salvation to all who believe" Romans 1:16. Like I said many claim to be Israel. That is not the gospel even if one could prove they are Israel because Israel at this time is not a theocracy. The "Tabernacle of David" is still in ruins. And it will only be when Israel "is born in a day" Isaiah 66:8, and Israel "looks upon Me whom they pierced" Zechariah 12:10 will they, the whole world see who the covenant people of God are. This commenter truly admires Dr. McCaulley and the host of this video for their effort to make sense of Christianity and the Bible by placing the particular belief system under the apologetic microscope. Even so, this commenter would like to challenge the view that the Bible could be trusted. An interesting observation relating to the Bible is that so-called Jews who are supposed to be the writers and keepers of the Old Testament do not identify with the New Testament. Instead, the Jews refer to their scriptural texts simply as the “Words of the Prophets.” Such a title is highly appropriate because the Old Testament comprises the story of some 39 - 46 mystics in their search for the meaning of human existence and their relationship to the supernatural or God. In telling their story, the Jews place their community as the pinnacle of all that transpires on earth. In accordance with their Judaic theology, they see themselves as being empowered by God to have dominion over everything that is not Jewish with the consequence that the Old Testament acquires the characteristic of the glorification of warfare after warfare (Leviticus, Deuteronomy, Numbers, et al). Accordingly, unless the case could be truly made that the Hebrew children spoken about in the Old Testament were, in fact, BLACK People, then logic and common sense should leave us with absolutely no doubt that the story in the Old Testament is not about BLACK People. The New Testament, on the other hand, comprises the accounts of a number of Jews who were collaborators of a reputed young Jewish rabbi called Jesus along with some other writers who had never been in the company of Jesus. What is most noteworthy about the New Testament is that it sets out to realize a clear agenda of putting a new (and improved) spin on the story told in the Old Testament. In the latter case, the key actor becomes Jesus who takes on the persona of an embodied “god” (the god/man) as opposed to the purely spiritual nature of the God of the Old Testament. The key architect in the formulation of such a renegade theology was a Jew called Saul of Tarsus (aka The Apostle Paul). According to the New Testament, after the reputed Jesus was executed by the Roman authorities on a charge of sedition, Saul became an operative for the state with the main task of infiltrating the Jewish community. Paul emerged as one of the most murderous persecutors of so-called enemies of the Roman Empire. But, being the megalomaniac that he was, Paul eventually lost favor with the Roman rulers in a manner similar to that in which Yevgeny Prigozhin (the former head of the Wagner Group) lost favor with President Putin and the Russian authorities. Faced with the predicament of no longer being able to identify with his Jewish colleagues, and finding himself ostracized by the powers-that-be, Paul decided to save his skin by carving out a sort of middle ground between the Roman authorities and the Jewish community (Acts 9: 3 -9). It was in such a vein that Paul founded his movement which he called Christianity. Although Paul had never been in the company of Jesus, and despite the absence of any independent corroboration of his so-called epiphany on the road to Damascus, he anointed himself as the only legitimate surviving successor of Jesus’s mission, and he began to portray Jesus as a Christ or saviour of non-Jews (Gentiles) rather than as the promised messiah or deliverer of the Jewish people (Romans 11: 13; Acts 13: 44 to 14: 7). The intriguing thing about the entire development of Christianity and about the books of the New Testament is that Paul’s writings were written and published decades before the gospels. Anyone reading the New Testament would be impressed by the manner in which the different events relating to Jesus’ personhood and Paul’s ministry are in sync with each other. The reality, however, is that the four gospels and the other books of the New Testament were carefully engineered and sequenced in the compilation of the Bible to embellish Paul’s portrayal of Jesus as the “Son of God" and the Bible as "GOD'S WORD". Other episodes of biblical fine-tuning were later carried out by the Roman Emperor Constantine I who formulated the Christological Doctrine and who intentionally designed the Roman Catholic Church to facilitate his imperialistic ambitions (Edict of Milan 313 AD). The English King James I (of Guy Fawkes infamy) also played a significant part in determining the character of the Bible by writing his own version (KJV) with the help of his best friend William Shakespeare (the playwright extraordinaire). To say the very least, there is far more in the mortar than the pestle. But suffice it to say that there is no way in which anyone who would claim to be highly educated would feel comfortable allowing blind faith to trump knowledge or verifiable facts and recommend that Black People should trust the Bible. It goes without saying that, the inherent contradictions in the Bible and the widespread use of allegory, along with the portrayal of a "god" who seems incapable of making up his mind about his real nature, and who sacrifices his own son after he found such an act grossly abhorrent in the case of Abraham and Isaac, makes the entire book the laughing stock of all literary genres. Apologetics might indeed be meant for the purpose of defending Christianity by any means necessary but the particular exercise would be able to go only so far in its use of hermeneutics and exegesis before the snake ends up putting its own tail in its mouth. The time is long overdue for BLACK People to wake up spiritually and intellectually to the urgency of taking up the mantle and telling their own story about their relationship with GOD (The COSMIC ONE) rather than squandering our energy parroting the theology of other people. Thus, it might be worthwhile for BLACK People to take a second look at the fledgling Philosophy of RASTAFARI which purports to be an emerging vehicle for the articulation of the COLLECTIVE experiences, aspirations, and hopes of BLACK People by BLACK people in the context of the wider world.

Most of yall will always be stuck with the bible. You dont want to really think what was before the bible and who where the people in there and what and how did they know GOD. Easier for you to believe the bible to be real than to really trust yourselves. So always follow what you trust and sometimes you will find you trusted in the wrong thing you always followed. God is real but the bible isnt. thats the simple truth. God is beyond a book and our thoughts it simply IS.
