As the days become shorter, we all know what's coming. When do we typically see our first freeze in Chicagoland? And, are there any signs pointing toward an early start to winter weather this year? Emily Wahls and Trent Ford, an Illinois State climatologist, have the answers.

average chicago winter begins in about 3 weeks. gets dark at 3pm. dont expect to see the sun until may

Last year we had probably 2 weeks worth of snow during the winter season. The year before we had maybe 3.5 weeks. This year I’m expecting it to be fairly mild. The times are changing and the weather is no exception

I worked in landscape. Weather forecasters are good for about a day. When they project their forecasts further into the future, they consistently fall on their faces.
