Hope you see this comment and highlight, because I'm an EMT about to hit y'all with an anatomy lesson to highlight why shooting thighs and/or abdomen are terrible ideas: First, to build on the point of the femoral artery, there is also the femur itself which may potentially break if hit. Now medical staff have two injuries to treat. Further the femoral artery can still be hit by metal fragments (my understanding is that police use hollow points) and now fragments of bone causing the patient to bleed inside the thigh. Now for the abdomen, there's still numerous organs and blood vessels in there. For blood vessels, there is the descending aorta (which bifurcation into the femoral ateries) but also the inferior vena cava. Hitting either one will make the patient bleed out internally. But even if those get missed, there are still the organs; best case, you hit a solid organ like the liver or kidneys, which will bleed a lot. But, more likely, you would hit a hollow organ like the intestines or stomach, which will release blood plus whatever was inside into the abdominal cavity where now you have bleeding plus the potential for sepsis. Finally, though it's pretty unlikely, there's the possibility that the bullet could hit the spinal column. Will it kill them? No, but they'll be paralyzed from the waist down the rest of their life. So officer safety notwithstanding, you are not (repeat, *NOT*) doing suspects any favors by either still killing them, giving them other life threatening conditions, or permanently crippling them. TL;DR this policy is bad and they should feel bad

@@officer401 The solution to this non-problem is so obvious that I’m shocked no one else has thought of it. Stop using lead and gunpowder based weapons entirely and instead issue Nerf guns. The worse that might happen is someone has a minor eye injury. But the way it works is that the officer would fire his Nerf gun, on fully auto, at the threat and the threat would immediately start laughing so hard he would collapse onto the ground and with the tears streaming out of his eyes, he wouldn’t even see when the cop casually walked over and handcuffed him. BRILLIANT! Problem solved. And I developed this technique from the comfort of my nicely cushioned swivel chair in less than 5 minutes. Talk about efficiency! Don’t thank me. I’ll be happy to send you a complete training plan, in PowerPoint for only a small, nominal gratuity of $5,000. In addition the purchase of said training plan entitles you to have me come to your location and present the training in person at a discounted rate of $200 per hour plus per diem and 5 star hotel accommodations. 😜Take care. @Froz0nPh0enix
@Froz0nPh0enix 3 года назад
@@Jejdjejbfjf not true at all, leg wounds drain blood extremely quickly, especially if hit in multiple spots. As a surgical technologist who specializes in trauma, being shot in the leg has A LOT of negatives, the femoral artery isn’t the only major vascular part of the leg/ thigh. It also doesn’t take much common sense to know a leg shot isn’t going to take a threat out. Which means you’re going to have more bullet wounds, more bleeding, and makes it quicker to just bleed out especially since cops only carry one tourniquet makes it very obvious that you’ll just have more shots fired, more GSW, and a higher death rate. So good luck with that.
@Jejdjejbfjf
@Jejdjejbfjf 3 года назад
@@Froz0nPh0enix yeah as we have established getting shot anywhere in your body literally has many negatives, it goes without saying that it includes the legs. So there is no need to attempt to dispute or prove that as you have attempted to do. But I'm sure anyone with common sense would rather get shot in the leg than shot in the upper body which would likely puncture the heart, lungs or brain, literally the vital organs which upon failure could result in instantaneous death. The number of shots is besides the point and outside your expertise if any. Cops fire multiple shots for various reasons in the heat of the moment. Just watch those live police cam videos where multiple cops surround a suspect and simultaneously send a barrage of bullets into the body within a few seconds following a perceived threat. If they're gonna shoot multiple times anyway, obviously shoot in the legs/extremities to reduce what would inevitably be great injury to the suspect. Also it is grossly outside your expertise to assume that one shot to the leg wouldnt take a threat out. That largely depends on a gamut of factors including the hostility and pain endurance of the suspect, as well as the type of bullet/gun used. This fatal assumption of yours is what causes LEOs to use inappropriate degrees of force - very dangerous mentality! I'm disappointed that a supposedly professional technologist like yourself would endorse such false assumptions as if they are part of your expertise. Btw in where I live, one shot to the extremity is what we are trained to do as well to eliminate a threat, heck even the use of a taser might be sufficient. Idk where you got the info that you gotta shoot multiple times in the legs to be effective. You obviously dont know of the excruciating pain which comes with a bullet wound.

I agree with shooting to stop the threat. That being said, if deadly force isn’t as far as you want to go it sounds like the firearm is not the correct choice of tool in that instance.

I have a question, but to quickly preface - One thing I’ve noticed is that the only shooting cases in the news are the ones that are controversial i.e officers who really weren’t following protocol etc. But what we don’t hear about nearly as often are all the cases where suspects’ behavior warranted a clear and obvious use of deadly force and where officer and civilian lives were in real danger. I know they exist (thanks in part to your other videos) and so my question is what’s your sense of the ratio between the two? In other words how often does a genuine need for deadly force by an officer arise on a day-to-day basis? (In Georgia at least, I know probably varies by state) Thanks for all your hard work!

He's done them in the past. Look through his vids from a couple years ago. He did a whole series about the application/hiring process. But his main advice for the psych part was just be completely honest. They'll ask a bunch of questions in different ways trying to get you to slip. If you think you can fake it, you can't. They've have alot more practice spotting liars than most people have had lying. Lol

LaGrange is inviting agencies to attend the training. A friend of mine is a GA Lieutenant who attended it. It seems like it's going to open up officer to additional legal liability. Why not see if your agency will allow you to attend their training and explanation and give us a follow-up video. I'd love to hear you perspective after attending it.

I'm so glad I'm out of all that. I was a firearms instructor for Georgia. I would quit (if I still was working) if I had to be PC. Deadly force isn't just killing someone. It's defined as "DESTRUCTIVE PHYSICAL FORCE causing bodily injury or death."

One thing bugs me is that if the situation is “not the most urgent”, shouldn’t they just try to taser the suspect instead? Either way I failed to see an intermediate level between taser and “lethal” gun usage.

Any person making these insane policies needs to demonstrate how this can be done successfully with a 99% or greater accuracy rate while shooting at a moving target. No shooting range demonstration where my 10 year old can hit any part of the target designated!

As someone who has been stabbed and shot in the legs and an arm, I can tell you hitting there will NOT stop the threat. Three punks tried to rob me and got a hit in both legs and my dominant arm, yet I was able to fight them off AND gave them worse injuries WITH MY HANDS than they did me WITH GUNS AND KNIVES. Oh I felt it when the threat was over and the adrenaline was ebbing off, but that took minutes AFTER I hurt the punks to start occuring. Even then, I still walked half a mile until someone saw me and drove me to a hospital. I retained consciousness the whole time. Point being, this new policy WILL fail.

I served rather briefly in the Danish army, and they acturly have seperation between "Lethal force" and "shooting to incapacitate" in the latter of escalation (use of force rulebook). "So for instance if someone is running away with a stolen rifle, you don't have reason to beleive they're otherwise armed, and you can safely, and with high chance of sucess do it, shoot for the legs to incapacitate. If not, escalate to lethal force, and shoot center mass. By the way, it's practically impossible to get a hit on a running target's legs at 100 meters *wink* " - The captain who instructed us.

First of like to say, you don't need to apologize for not making videos. Number one job of your life is taking care of your family, that sounds like you are doing very well!! Second, I don't totally agree on this new policy. Yes, if one feels their life is at risk, deadly force should not be a 2nd source. But there are many calls where maybe a less of a kill shot could have been done. Can't truly say yes or no, all incidents have their issues and without one being in the officers shoes, don't make a judgement on the situation. Don't rely on the media either, again one will not see or hear all that went done on the specific incident. And 3rd, its has always been said if you only wound a person, its now open for them to sue you. Who wants to go through that Bullshit! Anyways, thank you for the video. I love watching your channel. Take care, stay safe, and God Bless!

I live in Tulsa Oklahoma and I am glad to say that the Police chief and County Sheriff of Tulsa patrol when they have the chance. There was a shooting in 2020 where a police SGT and officer where shot during a traffic stop and the SGT sadly did not survive the encounter, there was a donation event where people would donate to the family's of the officers. The police chief, Sheriff and Sticks from Live PD were there, I asked the police chief and sheriff if the go on patrol, The police chief Wendell Franklin said "I would rather be a meter maid than a politician" and he is out in field when ever he has the chance. Sheriff Regalado is often busy swearing in corrections officers and doing community events for cherty, he is in the field quite often and even pulled me over once. I highly doubt this will be implemented in Oklahoma due to most of the Oklahoma population and mayors being pro law enforcement here and most of the brass is out in the field with the rank and file.

I agree, I think it's a bad policy. If I was on a jury and a cop shot to kill a dangerous felon...not guilty. A cop has a right to defend themselves. No matter where you hit them, if your life is in danger, it shouldn't matter. I hate how wacky our politics have gotten in the recent years..

If the fine print leaves room for officer perception for ending a threat immediately, then does the fact I’m using my gun to save my life not enough perception for me to use it to incapacitate immediately?
