Nathan and Ben clarify their position on the T14. You don’t have to attend a T14 law school to have a successful legal career. The guys frequently recommend that students attend lower-ranked schools that offer great scholarships as long as they understand their realistic job prospects.

Hi Nathan and Ben! Thank you so much for answering my question, I appreciate it so much. That has provided a lot of clarity and I am relieved to hear that about (hopefully) not having my GPA shown. Glad to have found this channel!

6:45 Another thing to consider is location. A lot of Biglaw jobs are in major cities, where the cost of living is several orders of magnitude above the cost in suburbs or rural areas, where salaries may be far lower yet have more purchasing power due to the even lower cost of living. $200k in Manhattan is not even close to $200k in St. Louis, which is not at all like $200k in Boise.

also you've got to pay big law rent prices which could be an easy 4k/month right there

Thanks! I have a French Bac and this is very nice to hear!! The passing of the Bac is what matters. Only 30% passed at my Bac and the grade was not at all a thing. 70% of my year had to repeat the last grade ( Terminale). The Bac is a week long exam and has no equivalent in the US.

Le baccalaureate francais est au niveau du lycee aus etas unis, l'ecole de droit americain est au niveau apres le bachelors. Il faut deja 4 ans d'universite avant d'appliquer.
@r.p.8906
@r.p.8906 Год назад

A lot of attorneys here in Texas that have their own practice are making big $$$ and they don’t do big law.!

1:18 Man's clearly never seen these videos before. If you want to practice anywhere in the country with a top notch salary, for the most part you need a T14. If you are willing to settle in a particular region, then lower ranked schools can still be fine. You can still get into biglaw without a t14, it's just that you have to rank much, much higher.
@r.p.8906
@r.p.8906 Год назад
have you seen the attorney of Johnny Depp? She nailed those objections like a master and the opposing attorney almost bursted into tears at the fiftieth consecutive objection! Not a T14 graduate! Not even top 80. 🙃
@kenlandon6130
@kenlandon6130 Год назад
@@r.p.8906 not my point. there are plenty of good non t14 attorneys, but your odds of getting good employment are much better if you go to a t14. the alumni networks are much bigger and certain high level employers such as federal clerkship programs, biglaw, the DOJ, top nonprofits, and others favor t14 grads. Partly because of the alumni networks and partly because it's harder to get an equivalent class rank at a t14.
@r.p.8906
@r.p.8906 Год назад
@@kenlandon6130 sure. I get it. Harvard, Yale and some other T14 are no longer T 14 because they decided, in 2022 not to be part of the " grading of schools". This is all new stuff and T14 might disappear all together if the top 3 law schools are no longer part of it.

I am a foreign applicant and I wasn't assigned a converted GPA, but most universities asked for my GPA or alternative for my country, and requested an explanation on my country's grading system

Also, if it works for any of you, the partners at the firm I work for in my country (G20 country, and the firm is probably a top 5 full service), have let me know that, as long as the program and law school is good (useful for me and the firm), they do not care about ivy league or high priced universities
