My opinion is that the only opinion that matters is yours... Do what your heart says and I am sure we will enjoy whatever you buy... PS: if you are not sure just put it for sale in a very good price and only if someone buys it with a good premium you can sell it

The answer to "should I get a 288GTO?" is ALWAYS yes! The TDF is a glorious car I'm sure, but the GTO is special...

I think as amazing the tdf is the 288 is clearly one of ur dream cars... I agree with u that they are going to keep going up in value; therefore I think this justifies jumping on the band wagon now before it’s completely unabtainable

After listening your arguments I would definitely go for it, especially if 288 GTO is your favourite Ferrari. I would buy 288 GTO and replace the TDF with "regular" F12, or with 550 Maranello, to still enjoy the V12 GT Ferrari experience, without worrying about the value drop as miles accumulate. GT cars I think are all about driving them, on long road trips. Special edition cars are a bit different, not an easy decision for sure. What I love about the CarGuysTV channel is that you drive those rare and special cars properly (road trips, hillclimb) and you really enjoy the driving experience, this is the essence of owning a car like this. Thanks for bringing us, viewers, for the ride. Nice thing is that CarGuysTV would be probably the only RU-vid channel with a regularly driven 288 GTO. That would be something special. Not sure if popular, as modern supercars are probably more trendy on RU-vid. I wish that one day you will buy a McLaren F1, but prices are crazy, I know. Please consider making POV driving videos like TheTopher/Winding Road Magazine. In my opinion it would be a great addition to the channel, you would literally bring us for the ride. I remember that Sam from SeenThroughGlass had nice glasses with camera, and POV quality was good.

Hi Damien, I think thr tdf is special, but the 288GTO is iconic and the price difference is the gulf in status between the two. The 812 will be a more evolved car then the tdf because of natural progression and as such the driver is becoming more detracted from the car as it manages both its driver and environment. However, the 288 is iconic because its encapsulates the rawness of the true Ferrari driving experience, manual gearbox, heal and toeing and also because its devoid of driver assistance, traction control, even power steering and anti-lock brakes etc..and also because its probably the last Ferrari where the form of the body is over taking precedence over the mechicanal function, no winglets or speed activated flaps etc...the tdf is completely purposeful the GTO is beautiful with purpose as as well...and that is why having 288GTO would be the pinnacle of any Ferrari (attainable) Ferrari collection. I'd have mine in Black😊

Just came across your channel and how great! Love the TDF , I am waiting for Mr JWW to do his videos on his car but you seem so sensible. Wise choice keeping it. I am a massive fan of 288 and it’s my most iconic Ferrari. Been a Ferrari fan for 30 something years now and it was the 308 that did It for me until I got to see a 288. How good would it be to be able to own both the 288 and the TDF, perhaps sell the rest I saw in that garage first? Thing is the 288 is so up there you would not drive it a much probably , it’s bound to be temperamental , plus without all the mod cons of today’s era would you really be willing to drive it aggressively. Leave it for the crazy collectors who just want to own them for the value and investment. I look forward now to watching your videos

Thanks for your great comments. The mileage would be less sensitive on the 288 so I would definitely drive it. I’d love to have both but that really would be a whole world of crazy

What I like about this channel is they are actually prepared to drive the cars they own. I do not see the point in buying a TDF and not driving it. Just get a big poster of the TDF if you're not going to drive it, it's cheaper, will have 0 miles on it and it won't get dirty.

You worry about the value driving your TDF, and that it’s a car you’ve got too much cash tied up in. Both of those will only get worse with a 288 GTO. Thing is though, 288 GTO is one of the most special cars Ferrari has ever made - yet the TDF remains one of the most special looking

Some beauty advice gentlemen, if you want this channel to succeed, do not sell the utterly gorgeous Giallo F-12TDF; the car is so outstandingly handsome I will come back repeatedly just to bathe my eyes in its enchantment. Start the imagination rolling as to how you are going to feature and photograph, and reveal this car's character with FREQUENCY. Replaying the collection video, as you Brits say, just to see it again. The tracking shots through the wheat field were precious. A fine organic design always looks good captured in nature or in a garden. Just subscribed, don't disappoint.

Do not, ultimately, the TDF will cost as high as the 288 because it was a special edition as well.. so keeping it will only increase the value more, and because you have a lot of cars, you will eventually stop driving it and the mileage issue will be obsolete ..so please keep it..from me in BOTSWANA,AFRICA.

I think the TDF has appreciated to the point where a trade on a 288 is almost even money. In addition, I think the invites to the upcoming limited models based on the 812, will incite current TDF owners to part with the car and thus, you could see an increase in them hitting the market, which would invariably affect the value of your TDF. Smart money is to pursue the swap if still an option.

Morning Damien, I think you know in your heart of hearts buddy, you have to own a 288 GTO. It's in you. If you have to Sacrifice the TDF to allow a 288 GTO to be parked in the Garage, then so be it. I think we both know that the TDF needs to held for a couple of more years to see it's values climbing, irrespective of mileage, it will. Obviously the mileage will dictate how much each individual car will sell for but it's one of your "banker" cars, one that you can still go out and drive and it WILL appreciate. It's that good. Ahhhh FFS I'm making a pathetic case here. Bollox I can see why your where your at with it all. Keep doing what you do. I'm loving the work your crafting together here. You are my goto Chanel when I've got a bit of down time and I want to and drift off in my mind and hear from somebody who doesn't talk or write about cars he's been given for a couple of days then has to create a discussion around that Limited time spent with the car. No I've more respect for a man who's got icons in his garage there to be driven whenever he feels fit. Add to it and get an Evo VI TME in silver please then I can watch you have the same amount of giggles I did, then it will bring back all my memories I had. Trust me you will not regret it. PS please let me have a look at it in the flesh if you do get one...........little things like putting the key in the boot and the part of it would flex in it was that light.........

100% yes! 288 GTO is such a classic with far more character than any modern Ferrari. I'm sure the F12 TDF is a future classic but apart from performance it has nothing over the 288 GTO in terms of style and character. Would love to see some quality in depth content of a 288 on youtube too. Modern Ferrari's are impressive but they're replaced so quickly with the next model they just lack a certain something that the models of 25 years ago and older seem to keep.

The 288 is so much cooler than the TDF, I feel like the greatness of the TDF is overhyped by teenagers on the internet who think it’s cool. It will just be eclipsed by whatever the hot version of the 812 is. No love for the F50?

Speednote10 It's an awesome car, no doubt they love it. It just doesn't come close to the 288 GTO in my opinion. I also think that the values won't hold at 900k right now as everything is struggling in the market. I'm in the same mind that the 288 is going up and up so to me at least it makes sense to move the TDF on In order to be ready to move on the best 288 that comes up. It's not like you won't be able to get another F12, there's about 7 or 8 for sale right now.

Joe Cribben well, i still think 599 gto is such an amazing car, i mean it's the road version of the 599xx. This is a situation I want and don’t want to be it but I would wait until the limited 812 comes out then sell it. This will probably be when the value is at its highest! This will make it easier for your next purchase whether that be the 288 GTO or something else but think about is there another car that would be less controversial, unpopular and potentially value. Love the way you include your fans, nice. Think you've made the right choice for now. 812 is very similar on paper, but a lot cheaper, plus it will be much less milage sensitive. But it probably wont be as special. If you are keeping the tdf after comparing with the 812, you should plan to never sell the tdf and sod the milage. The F40 is closely related the the GTO ( never officially named 288 i believe) , are you likely to have both at the same time, and then are you going to get the whole collection of hypercars F50, Enzo etc? I hate the abbreviation but YOLO

One answer YES sell it for the 288 GTO. If i was lucky enough to win the euro's tonight the first cars i'd buy would be the F40 and the 288 GTO regardless of cost,why because i've dreamed of owning them since they came out as a kid in the eighties. What wouldn't i buy with that money is a car like the tdf or it's lesser variant 812 or any modern super car really. Or you could buy a Carrera GT instead of the 288,if it was me with the money then i'd buy both.

You already have the F40, next stop 288GTO. You won't regret it. The TDF was/is a "market-milker" IMO. The 288GTO won't lose value either - its a proper hand built open-gated hairy-chested limited-run Enzo car. Anything since just isn't. Leave the yellow peril to the mincers in Chelsea.

288 is a huge liabilty, so much cash in one pot and you'd be on pins driving it, just one prang, just one old biddy in a moggy minor crashing into you and you'd be up shit creek, without a paddle. As lovely as it is, i'd seriously give it a miss. You appear to like driving a lot, so why not buy some cheaper drivers cars that wont break the bank and just enjoy the thrills that they offer, a tuned evo 6 for example, you could totally abuse something like that until the wheels fell off and still not lose any sleep over it.

Absolutely if you dont mind the engine over heating in traffic or the gearbox taking 2 hours to warm up or never ever bring able to drive it in anything other than perfect weather engine out services every 50 ft the heaviest clutch I've ever used seems like a great idea

I think I would only buy a supercar if I don't have to worry about the mileage and a car like an f12tdf I would keep unless I'm getting a new 812 "tdf" or whatever the limited version is called especially since it's the last naturally aspirated v12 probably
@faisalabdulla944
@faisalabdulla944 5 лет назад
If the replacement for the 812 is still going to be naturally aspirated.. then it makes sense to sell it.. but the minute they say that the new one will not be natural its going to go up 20+ percent immediately

So at 2.30 you say that £900,000 is an awful lot of money to have invested in one car as a reason for selling the TDF but then you are considering buying a 288 which you admit are now £2,000,000 ! Which IS an awful lot of money to invest in one car (but I would buy a 288 if I could)
@tr1892
@tr1892 5 лет назад
Purely from an investment point, you should get a 288. If the 250 GTO is any indication then you should probably get one. The TDF is so incredible though, although in 5 years the price of the 288 with have gone up much more (percent wise that is).

Hey chaps! Defo get the Ferrari 288 GTO! Really really love the TDF; but the GTO is a proper limited Ferrari. Maybe go for the 288 and also get a Ferrari 599 GTO too! Keep up the great videos. Great Sunday watching from Weybridge. Thanks

Great video. An enviable dilemma to say the least. I remember at Goodwood FoS circa 2005 there was a seemingly immaculate 4 cam 275gtb for sale at £485,000! Weren't GTO's and 959s at one point going for under 200k?

Yes you should because, as great as the F12 TdF is, it wont be the last naturally aspirated V12 Ferrari berlinetta, whereas the 288 GTO on the other hand will always be the daddy. But bear in mind the GTO is currently twice the price of the TdF

The simple answer is no....in years to come you’ll appreciate the tdf more as it’s less fragile and more usable and although not as rare,better all round and values will increase accordingly

As much as I love the car I think you should sell it. There will most likely be a similar version of the 812 which you may be able to get brand new. Also may be if there prices go down you can buy another in the future. And in the mean time like you said you can experience other cars. Also you could sell it and buy an f12 and put an exhaust on it if you’ll miss the sound. Many options😁 Love your videos

You helped me with Dc2 Integra type R and this is my honest opinion, I think the decision is easy, 288GTO is a BIG investment while the F12 is going to lose value, Classic Ferrari's are the answer and you have that raw power experiance that is never going to exist in the future, now that the Electric cars can do 0-100 faster than any car, why keep it ?
@user-yd7ih9vy7t

Yes, I would. However, perhaps you can sell a number of other cars and only keep the special ones. By the way, you also need a 599 gto

Ferrari and all super car are what they are because of the engineering and the breeding they manufacturer put into it. It’s the experience of the drive, no one can fully experience a car like Ferrari without driving it. I never understood the collector mentality but and let it sit. It’s like experiencing life through a pane of glass. But as far as putting miles on a car regardless the price the only I can say is we are all heading in the same direction, a box in the ground. Worry about the mileage on you and not the car. If you can afford to experience all the other cars then do it, if you feel you can’t enjoy all the car you spoke about and you want to them sell it and enjoy. Regardless just enjoy and not worry about it

Yeah I agree dude. Love the TDF it’s my favourite modern Ferrari. But you are killing the value with the thousands of miles. You could get a regular F12 and drive it with no worries 😁. What on earth do you do for a living?? 😳 just saw the full garage video.

Keep it...if it’s a long term investment. In 10/20 years the young money coming up now will want the TDF and they will pay TOP dollar for it, todays young money in 20 years won’t want a 288 GTO as it won’t be revered as it is today as today’s young money will have no attachment to it, and the people who do will be dropping like flies...both are amazing vehicles but I’m 25 and if in 10/20 years I have that sort of money in the bank I’m going TDF aalllll day (TDF v F40 may be a tricky one). Just one man’s opinion. Amazing garage all round too, props to you sir!

Agree the sound of the TdF is amazing an toxicating ... Choose the most rare of the two. ...Probably the 288 GTO.... It also provides a more pure experience ..... But now it is way too expensive! Therefore wait for the next stock market crash which will drive down prices ...!

I do think the Carrera GT would be a great alternative, however I’ve heard you can easily burn out the clutch and it costs a small fortune to repair. I think you should hang on to the TDF till at least you can do a comparison video between it and the Superfast, that would be prime time TV!

At the end of the day Damian it all comes down to personal choice. You are fortunate enough to be able to afford these cars - we are mostly all here as we have the same passions but cannot afford any of them. The 288 GTO for me is the all time No.1 Ferrari so for me yes do it - but that TDF is awesome too. Perhaps its a generation thing for us older chaps. There is something more exotic about mid-engined cars - probably a bit more 'Top Trumps!' All you'd need then is a Miura ;o) Enjoy mate

I would rather sell a load of other cars before this to get the funds for the 288 because the tdf is one of my favorite cars in the world, but if selling the tdf is the only way for you to achieve your 288 dream I'd say do it. On the other hand you can look at it this way. Both cars will go up in value so if you truly miss the tdf in the future you can always sell the 288 and get another tdf. I suspect the 288 will appreciate more than the tdf because of the amount produced and it being one of the 5 super Ferrari's. Also, the 812 is said to be a tdf that is actually usable, for less money so you would kind of get that driving experience with the new car. Unfortunately it is not even remotely as beautiful as the F12 platform if I'm honest. In any case you should indeed wait with the sale so you can compare, maybe the sale will hurt less in that way. Anyway, as always I love the content, keep it coming!!

Some how, people have change tunes about trading a F12 TdF vs for a 288 Ferrari to a Porsche Carerra GT. I am qualified to say this because on top of the techno advances from Porsche , I do owned all the Ferrari, LaFerrari you mentioned, I also have ten Porsche’s. But a Porsche can never have the same respect as a Porsche. When you are inside a Ferrari regardless of model, it just doesn’t give you that sense of being inside. The very obvious glance but its saying a sour grape that says “hey, look at me, I couldn’t care less about your Ferrari !”... Plus the fact that you cannot buy it with money 💰! You know which car you want to keep...

As people always say: do not meet your childhood heroes. Right now, you "complaint" about having one car representing so much value as 3 porsches. And the 288 GTO would be more than twice the value. Keep the fabulous F12 tdf ;-)

I think it depends on how closely the F12tdf and 812 Superfast compare. For me the 288gto is in the same league as the 1962 250 gto, F40, F50, Enzo and La Ferrari. That is, they are all considered to be really extraordinary examples of Ferrari’s for their era. The F12tdf is an exceptional car, but, the 812 Superfast is so close in capability and at a third or quarter of the price. So I can understand why you’re asking the question.

the 288 is a classic, more so than the f12. i reckon the former will continue to be worth more than the f12 in the long run, but that should be beside the point, - the 288 is a piece of Ferrari legend. Go for it.

Well what a dilemma, so its good to ask other people, because we are less inclined to make emotional decisions, given we are third party. lets try and break it down, Is this purchase for pleasure or investment, because the two should never mix and you will always be in conflict with yourself when you try to accommodate both in the same sentence, its like buying houses.... Secondly they are both incredible cars, very different. Personally I believe you should buy the 288 GTO because its one of YOUR lifetime goals and it will stay super rare... The TDF will be held back in growth until Ferrari finally sell what we assume to be the last NA TDF version of the 812. This will be the big ticket item to collect and everybody knows it. That's the emotional version, practical, is more difficult, we can guess the TDF has more growth in its value because it is still yet to occur but it won't be the last version 812 TDF. Just how that will play out can maybe be compared to 550/575 versus F12 values, they have all gone up, but not as much. I would say go with your heart because you only live once. If the GTO does not tick all your boxes long term, you could easily reverse and get back into an 812 TDF for sure... whatever you do, you must enjoy it, collectors who only buy and put 1000 miles on it, while it collects dust the rest of the time are in my opinion wasting their lives. Your time is the real commodity, not money. Do you really need more money in your life with these investments. We know practically there are better investment vehicles than cars, so if its just cars, make the emotional decision and I will be forever grateful if you just share 5 minutes of that experience on VT with us all. :-) thanks for asking.. hope this helps in some small way.... the final choice is always YOURS.

When I clicked on the video my answer was yes then I seen the first 10 seconds and that sound I an tempted to say no but from a money prospective the 288 gto will only ROCKET in price in the next couple of years so i say go for it but off course your opinion is the only thing that matters
