On S5II on 4K50/60 DCI you actually get slightly less crop. It work only in that mode, because 4k25 DCI has the same field of view.

Oh thats interesting, I didn't realise that. I hadn't considered the frame rate crops having an effect as I was coming at it from MFT. Thanks for the info.

Hey Steve, good one. I can see there being limitations in pro res. No Reg 4K. I had fun with pro res and it's good to know I have it but never use it now. Do you ? BH photo will have the g9ii in stock on the 13th. I guess I'm gonna go down there and get one. If my GH6 back lcd was not fried I'd probably wait until the end of the winter to buy. But it's a bummer without my back screen but I have a monitor on top when I need it but it's a lot work. Lol. By the way I'm gonna give 4CK a try over my next few shoots. I like the idea it. We'll see.

Thanks, glad you found it useful 👍 I would maybe use ProRes a lot more if it had more 4K options and frame rates over 60fps. I tend to be happy with the MOV setting because it has all the resolutions and frame rates I regularly shoot in. Sounds good, looks like a great camera and a nice little early Christmas present 🙂 I can totally understand that after get my 1TB CF Express card I am actually using SSD a lot less than I was before. I do like a nice compact setup when I can get away with it.

on gh6 the C4K has the same horizontal field of view as 4K, but a narrower vertical field of view. it's like cropping the top and bottom of a 4K, which is kinda counter intuitive.
@stevelitton
@stevelitton 8 месяцев назад
When shooting C4K you are capturing more pixels horizontally, 4096 pixels in C4K vs 3840 pixels in 4k. It just scales it on the EVF and rear screen cropping the top and bottom off to show a 17:9 preview. It's not a shooting format I personally use a lot be honest.

I just bought this camera, your videos is how I’m learning to use the camera. I used it to film my daughters play. Unfortunately i recorded it in slow motion lol. Do I have to turn off variable frame rate? And what’s your suggest if I’m shooting mostly martial arts best quality for something like that? I would be lost without your videos so thank you.

That's great to hear you are finding the videos useful, thanks I appreciate it! Ah no, yes VFR basically records the footage and saves it in slow motion without audio. If you want the slow motion I would recommend just using the preset higher frame rates in the shooting options (HFR). That way the clips can be dropped into a standard 24/25/30p timeline and then you can just slow down the bits you want to be in slow motion. You will also get sound with everything, which can even be useful for the slow motion stuff. There is a video on speed ramping and one on HFR on this channel. Hope that helps.

@@stevelitton the stunner is that the last project I shot for a corporate client was done in a much lower resolution than 5.7k lol Am I a hypocrite? Probably LMAO
@stevelitton

@@AfoteyAnnum To be honest I think I almost always shoot things in a larger format where possible just because I like to have some scope to stabilise, reframe and crop in to the footage in post. It's not ideal storage-wise but it has saved me a few times.

Hi Steven, If I post video to RU-vid, which format is better?
@stevelitton
@stevelitton 8 месяцев назад
RU-vid is available on all types of devices so it can be a tricky one but I usually just upload as standard 16:9. You could post it as 17:9 if you wanted people to see those black bars when watching on a TV though. Hope that helps.

I'm a total amateur, so excuse my dumb question :) But, I recall your videos on Open Gate. Is that 16:9 or 4:3? I always thought it was 16:9, but saw someone say recently it was 4:3? As a math and camera dummy, I thought 16:9 and 4:3 were the same, but, apparently not, and the last person I saw said to shoot 4:3 if you want more editable vertical and horizontal footage.
@stevelitton
@stevelitton 8 месяцев назад
Hey, no not at all. So open gate is the full sensor of the camera which is 4:3. 4:3 used to be the standard for TVs before the wide-screen 16:9 aspect ratio came along. 4:3 is a much more square aspect ratio which makes it easier to reframe footage across different formats. But you can repurpose 16:9 footage for square and portrait video, sometimes you may have to crop in a little though and lose some resolution. Hope that helps.

Hi Steven Litton 😃, How are you my friend?🙂 Is everything ok there?😉 Thank you for sharing this valuable information about our powerful GH6.🤓 Navigating the GH6 menu I encounter great difficulty.🙁 Do you know how we can know if we are filming in H264 or H265?🤔 This information should be much more visible in the menu.🤨 To this day I don't know when I'm using H264 or H265 😔 Another difficulty I find in the GH6 is the auto ISO, in the GH5 the auto ISO works perfectly. On the GH6 the auto ISO is always higher, leaving the images with higher exposure.... 🤨 Can you adjust this auto ISO to work the same as the GH5?🤔 Thank you my friend.🤩🧐
@stevelitton
@stevelitton 7 месяцев назад
Hey, all good thanks. No problem, glad you are finding it useful 👍 This is not a hard and fast rule but in generally for the 10-bit video modes if you are shooting 420 then you are using H.265 and if you are shooting in 422 then you are using H.264. The ISO cannot be adjusted aside from maybe just bringing down your exposure compensation if you think it is overexposed. You could also have a look at which metering mode you are using. Hope that helps.
@marvideos2007
@marvideos2007 7 месяцев назад
you are the best, Thanks for sharing. I always had this question about the h264 and h265 modes I'm going to do some tests in the measurement modes. Which metering mode do you currently use to film? Thanks again friend.@@stevelitton

No problem, I have pasted the Lumix explanations below, so you get it straight from the horses mouth. Personally, it depends on how much movement I am doing, I generally keep it set to Multi-metering but I will occasionally change it if I have bright window for example and I don't want include that in the metering. Multi-metering Method in which the most suitable exposure is measured by judging the allocation of brightness on the whole screen. Center-weighted Method used to perform measuring which focuses on the center of the screen. Spot Method used to measure the extremely small part around the spot-metering target. When you move the AF area, the spot metering target also moves to match. Highlight-weighted Method used to perform measuring which focuses on the highlighted parts of the screen to prevent overexposure. This is suitable for theatre photography, etc.
