Paid off my house this month, only took seven years on a 30 year mortgage. Best motivation was printing my 30 payment schedule and keeping it on the coffee table. When you see the money wasted on interest you get super motivated to get it done with. No more banks, no more loans.

Gratitude touniverse Well we started with a big down payment. Instead of putting 20% down it was around 40%. Then we just paid extra every month. Our vacations were local fairs, concerts, etc so they were cheap. We still went out to eat once a month but never to anyplace expensive. We didn’t want to feel like we couldn’t have any fun.

A close friend of mine was paying bills online while the two of us were talking about a few things like debt and bills. My friend allowed me to see his credit card debts at a particular bank. I noticed he also had a savings account at the same bank with a large balance, enough to pay off his credit card debt completely. I told him he was spending money on interest for no reason, that he should pay off his credit card debt and then use his freed up cash flow to save again.

Regardless of the interest he is recieving, the amount of interest paid out will always be based on the balance in the acct. So unless he has no intention of putting that money in with the other money then he should pay it off. Plus, even if he didnt add it in, that money is available for him to use for whatever he like. Once he hands it over to the finance company, he can no longer use it. Imagine giving someone 200 and then needing a tire, well if you hadn't given away the 200, you would have the money for the tire and you wouldn't have had to pull it from your savings.

This guy is like i love the security of having the cash in savings while he's trying to justify 25k on a hobby without any retirement what so ever. So he really in a totally unsecure position for one reason his hobby. That's really no difference in that, then the mom who has 50k car and justify it by saying it had headrest. Selling the truck delaying pleasure of hobby till you get baby step 2 debts, 3 full fund, 4 retirement started 5 kids school started (if you have any), and if you want to at 6 then budget for hobby as you pay extra on house, but best to just bite the bullet and pay house. Then budget your hobby in 7 with no debt, savings taken care of and full fund that's not an illusion but is truly apart of your worth above zero. Sell the truck and buy a cheap reliable truck for 6-8k. Then buy a cheap cobalt, civic or corolla for 3k. For under 10k you have 2 decent paid for cars. This is something not in Dave’s plan but I think it’s a great idea. This is for people that paid off their car or paid cash for a car and have a fully funded emergency fund. I tell people to put 50 bucks a week in an envelope for a car repair fund. If you generally buy a car valued at 4,000 bucks then keep funding your repair fund until you get to 4,000 bucks @$50 per week then stop. So now you have 4,000 in your repair fund. If your engine blows up in your car you can use your fund to repair the vehicle or buy a new 4,000 buck car. Yeah I know Dave’s 3-6 months of expenses would cover this but in my opinion having a vehicle fund on top of the 3-6months is just that much better because vehicles are an expense that you absolutely know will come up so why not be prepared?

Kim Jong-un That’s what’s so amusing about this. It does not matter if it’s cheap or expensive.There are people here that make any cheap affordable area of the U.S. expensive with their bad financial/spending habits. We make $160/yr salary here and many of my coworkers still broke,in debt,and paycheck to paycheck while others making as low as $50k/yr and retiring millionaire next door. Craziest thing I’ve ever witnessed through the years. Heck I already contributed $30k to my Roth 401k so far and finish maxing my Roth IRA on New Years Day for 2019.
@euenfheiejrj
@euenfheiejrj 5 лет назад
BlackWorldTraveler exactly! It doesn’t necessarily matter how expensive or cheap a place is (within reason). I saved more living in NYC than my fiancé who lived in Indianapolis which is a very cheap city. And now we save a ton living in Chicago, which a lot of people think is expensive. It all comes down to your priorities.

@@blackworldtraveler3711 people just simply don't want to save17 to 40k a year for 10 years to build a compound interest machine early in their life. OklahomaBeing cheap means low income people can save more money .

I think Dave just layed out a complete waste a truck actually is for 95% of people that own them. You own a truck to haul things 6 times a yr that's $3000 a haul you could pay someone cheaper or you could rent a truck for was less 6 times a yr. We all want that fancy truck but the truth is most are in massive debt for a truck they don't use nearly enough to warrant the debt.

I really like most of Dave’s concepts other than leveraging debt but man he is so arrogant and all of his die hard fans in the comments are super arrogant too..the way they look down on people that don’t completely agree with certain recommendations and treat it like you need to follow it to the letter of the law lol. You act as if it’s a one shoe fits all mentality...most of you praise every word out of his mouth because you’re awful with money and his concepts got you out of your bad situation which I completely understand and am empathetic to that point but don’t bash people that have become successful like me not following it like a cult. It’s a good habit to form yes but not all of us are financially dumb like most of you and can’t leverage some of our debt to become extremely wealthy.

People can't be this dense. You have to have "A" truck for work. Not the most expensive hooked up truck possible. It kills me, when people act like they are broke and have all sorts of income yet could pay off debt, start a business and still have money in the bank.

That's the thing you financial guys don't understand. Sure, if you are in debt, keep the hobby on hold until you have paid off your debt. Then enjoy it again. But retiring with 1.5 million dollars in the bank with nothing but regrets to live in your old life is not worth it, specially as you cannot spend money after your death
