Should K-idols Be Allowed To Date?  

I’ve seen melodies trying to find BTOB wives in comment sections, they were asking females around the same age (as members) to slide into their DMs. When rumours about Vernon from Seventeen were going around, carats literally were like: “ah, okay, this must be the reason he started dressing up nicely”.

They are there to provide you with serotonin *temporarily*, they can't cry or behave rudely with you. It's not the whole K-Ent industry (lots of actors, singers etc are married or in relationships) but specific to Idols. Because Idols (male or female) sell a boy/girlfriend fantasy and they money off of fans who would pay for a chance to meet or touch or talk their "ideal/fantasy" lover. There are even idols who "get jealous" of their fans listen to or talk about other idols or groups. Now there are some group who are even selling AI versions of their idols, so the fans can have a personal "bias" of their own to "play" with (like My Talking Tom, but it's ur fav idol) It's not exactly hard to get delusional when the whole Idol industry is build upon making money off of that delusion.

I think jealousy also has a part to play. Most of the time male idols go with female idols who are drop dead gorgeous. The fans feel threatened and jealous and get mad and cancel them

Dont bring children into this. As a former child i never had the concept of having ownership on anyone i didnt know. The parents and schools should really take a stand against these labels with their dubious ways of marketing idols. Its such a toxic environment for a child to grow up into.

Agree 100%. Something similar happened to the vtuber Rushia when she was involved in a dating scandal. Her whole concept was being her fans’ girlfriend; she even sold engagement rings as merch. Kpop groups use the girlfriend/boyfriend concept in a similar way to get fans to fall in love and spend tons of money on them.

It's definitely the fans fault. If they can't see the reality,that's all on them, not the company. Those fans choose themselves to fall for it. They choose to fall in love right along with MULLIONS of fans. They know these idols aren't theirs. They're just insecure and when they see the idols date someone, it's speaks jealousy and that's when the crazy comes out It happens outside of idol life too. High school girls are the same way. They love the handsome popular guy, hoping he'll notice her someday and when he gets into a relationship, they hate the girl a d feel betrayed by him as if he was dating her Kpop companies just used that to benefit off of. The fans allowed it to happen therefore are the main ones to blame

im a fan i bought everything for my idol and even tickets but i will be happy for them to have their own relationship and family fans of artists in my country are like that they are very supportive and not feel betrayed just because their idol is in a relationship

If an idol begins to date, fans, especially parasocial ones, may feel betrayed because the previous illusion of a close relationship is shattered. Someone who doesn't have fulfilling real life relationships can easily fall into a parasocial one. After all, someone who always appears perfect and loving is the ideal partner. There's no chance of rejection, no dislikeable traits. They're always there to make your day better, and they may be the only thing that brings you happiness. I dare say most people won't know they're in a parasocial relationship at first. I don't believe people actually think they have any chance at all with the idol. They become a true idol - something god-like, an object of worship and devotion. Not something fans would think themselves equal to. Idols build up a reputation of being pure and good, so much so that nobody else is on the same level. Seeing them date someone would be realising that they're not so out of this world, and are just normal people. They're not something to worship anymore, they just become a performer. A performer who is now unapproachable because they have close relations with someone else. It might be weird to say someone is unapproachable because they're in a relationship. But someone you love is someone you spend the rest of your life with, your number one. Nobody else comes close. The idol does not betray the fan, they just betray the fan's perfect ideal of them. Essentially, they become an entirely different person from the fan's view. That's why people don't have a problem with attacking the idols that they once adored and based their entire lives upon. Some fans might still believe the idol is still their perfect person. But why would they be happy for their own deity to date some scumbag? Nothing should be able to be close to something so pure and unreachable. Either way, such fans will not be able to accept such a change. I don't believe it's entitlement, or ownership, I just think it's worship. After all, if the idol isn't allowed to date, they're not allowed to date the fan either. It's funny, in a way, that these sorts of things are explained by either pure dominance over the idol or pure submission to the idol. I guess it's true that two extremes are alike. That's why idols can't date. To be an idol is to have close relationships with your fans, and to be someone that they will devote to and admire. If you have someone who comes before your fans, you can't be a true idol. I think this is why this culture around East Asian idols is so different from the West, even though Western singers also have many parasocial fans. The differences in expectations, idol culture, relationships, just makes the idea of dating a much bigger deal.

There are already kpop idols dating, they just know how to keep it a secret. They're adults who should be free to date and i'm sure they know how to keep it professional.
