Senator Pamela Wallin's parents died a week apart from each other from debilitating diseases. It made her angry to watch her parents depart in such difficult ways and not on their own terms.
Now, she’s devoted to fighting for the right for anyone to request medical assistance in dying (MAID). Whether they have severe mental health issues or diminished cognitive functioning from medical conditions like Alzheimer’s or dementia.
Part of that work is to educate the public about what it means to suffer from mental illness and how a severely hindered quality of life could lead people to want to seek MAID.
