Yeah especially cause the wrestling defense in mma is still very tough at the high levels. There’s a reason the ufc champions and top 10 isn’t layered with ncaa wrestlers. It’s very mixed from great high school wrestlers with striking, dagestani, the aussies who’ve got great defense grappling cage wrestling and very layered kickboxing. Being a wrestler by trade is still very valuable. But, to make it in mma is a very tall task.
@@OexcitingI don’t know what you mean by “layered”. Also, don’t see what’s the value in separating NCAA wrestlers from freestyle or Greco. For example, Cejudo skipped NCAA but is he not considered a similar wrestling background relative to Starocci? DC, Woodley, Usman, Covington, etc? And why group Dagis or even Greco like Jon Jones out while comparing to Muay Thai, BJJ, etc? Teaching a wrestler to get decent at standup is easy relative to teaching a kickboxer to get decent at wrestling. Just look at the progression of guys like Usman, Khabib, Islam, etc on their feet. When a takedown is always a threat in MMA you cannot use your full range of striking and are usually on the counter.
Dude please go to the UFC I love high caliber ncaa wrestlers making the move I think it only makes sense and that’s where the money is! Unfortunately in this world Olympics are great but they don’t pay the bills which is crazy to think but it’s true!
thats why I love wrestling because there's no money, no media, no bullshit, it's pure love for the sport, it's the pure drive of being the best because you want to be, not to just get a paycheck
I do believe Carter Starocci should complete his 4th year wrestling at Penn State because he is truly one of the BEST Penn State wrestlers of ALL TIME, and I think he could win Most Valuable Player/MVP. I think he could be a boxer, instead of a wrestler unless he wants to become a professional wrestler.
@@MrSilus2000 He was saying it's all easy, but yes, when he said the current Champ is a D2 Wrestler, that's "beginners stuff" where he comes from, he was talking about fighting. Arrogant as shit, but damn it he hasn't earned the right...to some degree. MMA ain't gonna be easy for him though. He'll get worked with that attitude.
@@duby5465 There's a question. It's also gonna be a question of weight. If he's going uo to '84, but plans to Wrestle the Olympics at 74KG(163) He's gonna be cutting his balls off(and a leg). But we'll see. IOC fucked it up. There should be 4 more weights. 6 is a joke and I don't think he's ready to beat Dake. Also, if he stays at 174, O'toole I'd likely moving up. That'd be a great match. The styles? Edge to Starocci(as always) but great match up.
I was just gonna say that as well. He's gonna get eaten alive if he goes in with that kind of mind set. Also, if it really was easier then what kind of true competitor says he wants to take the easier route.
@soldierboy2350 he hasn't been proven wrong tho 💀 when you're at the level Starroci is at that's that truth, he called D2 wrestling beginner level. And he literally steamrolled his weight class to the point he's the only notable name in it. When you're a 3x NCAA Champion you're almost immediately a top level UFC fighter as long as you properly adapt.
@@Happycamper808 he obviously wouldn’t fuck em up without striking or bjj but YOURE delusional if you think Leon stopping a 1 time d2 national champs takedowns means he is anywhere near equipped to stay on the feet against starrocci
@@scourge8097 college wrestler are not paid or win money in exhibition matches, nor has he signed any endorsement deals, so I don’t think in any way at all that he is getting paid more now than he will if he goes mma or Olympics
The thing I hate about Penn State is the whole Sandusky thing, the school should have been shut down and everyone investigated for allowing pedophiles to harm kids.
@@zymond8405 Depends on your athletic ability. I don't think Yianni would thrive, nor would Lee(I know he's not a 4 Timer, but he was as dominant as anyone the last 5 years-10 years). But Starr has all the athletic attributes you need.
Bo Nickel couldn’t complete a takedown a had to throw a knee. Whether it not it was illegal is another question. I don’t think wrestling translates as much as he thinks it does.
