I'd have to agree. I've only recently begun to watch a couple of the most popular plastic surgery channels on this platform with Dr. Linkov's being the third and I quickly found that I much prefer Dr. Linkov's take on plastic surgery procedures. It's not just his empathy but concise layperson's explanation of what's involved balanced with possible outcomes and complications. That's crucial in my eyes because at that point a person's expectations, desires, fears and everything else not necessarily physically related can be addressed. I would feel utterly confident in his hands.

To play devil's advocate for Dr. Diamond...the Try Guys asked him just to go all out and suggest all possible work that could be done...on a normal consultation, he probably doesnt do all that. Also it was played for entertainment (Keith was trying to get the dr to draw inappropriate things on his face for half the video) so...this is probably not representative of his work.

I know that in Korea the v-line surgery is very popular with both men and women. They want a slim face. When I visited Japan I have so many people compliment my "small face". So maybe that's why Eugene thinks his face is too large. I love his facial structure and it seems like most people also agree that his face is pretty much perfect.
@Flawlesslmperfection
@Flawlesslmperfection 3 года назад
I agree, I think Eugene has very nice facial structure. To add on to what you said, a v-line jaw is part of having a 'small face,' but it's also the ratio of the size of your head/face compared to the size of your body/height. At least that was how it was explained to me while I was living in Korea for 2 years (and I still don't understand exactly what the 'ratio' is supposed to be in order to have a 'small face').

I got cosmetic surgery when I was 11 because my ears stuck out really bad. I went to my parents and explained that I wanted it and in Canada it's free under a certain age if it's bad enough. Best decision, bullying stopped and my confidence has been great ever since. I feel that if something is very distracting in the face area it can destroy a persons confidence and even life. Just depends on the situation and how bad it is. Highly recommend it for bad cases. I would say it shouldn't be done casually as the surgery sucks and could be dangerous.

They offered to fix both of my friend's kids when they were born- pinning the ears back. She went through bullying her ENTIRE LIFE for her ears, and she TURNED DOWN surgery for both of her daughters saying "she survived" and that she thought they were perfect the way they were. I feel HORRIBLE to this day, because both of her girls.... Are very VERY unattractive as thier ears stick straight out like a monkey. I feel so so bad for them. I asked her why she would ever let her children go through all the bullying that she had and she said "but I don't want them to think they aren't perfect the way they were born". Trust me. They can see in the mirror that they aren't perfect. I think they are going to be LIVID once they realize they could have avoided a lifetime of low self esteem, horrible photos, bad haircuts to hide their ears, and bullying. I would NEVER EVER let my child go through that.

@@EvansFamilyLegoProject You're disgusting comparing a childs ears to a monkey and saying they are unattractive because of it?? What the hell, it's not a big deal at all. @@EvansFamilyLegoProject You need to consider the implications of performing cirgury on a child. When I was in kindergarten one of the kids I knew *died* from complications while having her ears cirurgically fixed. I was 5yo and I still remember to this day the moment our teacher told us she had passed. Every cirgury has risks, and for a child those risks can be higher. Cirgury isn't a risk free no-brainer solution, it should take some consideration, and calling a child "unattractive" just because of their years is contributing to the problem and the bullying they get.

I wasn't a fan of the doctor in their video. He seemed to be playing on their insecurities more than necessary even when you account for trying to make an entertaining video. It seemed like he was trying to make a sale and maybe it's because I'm British but I tend to think a doctor should never try and sell you anything. Even a plastic surgeon, one of the few fields in Britain that is mostly private, should only be helping you feel more confident, letting you know the options and helping you to make an informed decision based on their experience.

Urm Eugene has mentioned multiple times that his low confidence about his appearance is also due to how he was bullied for his looks IN America. For a long time now, Americans have been shaming Asian males. It’s only been pretty recent that america has become more open minded towards Asians in general. Those Asian boys that tend to have more prettier faces usually faced the worst of it when they came to the west, being ridiculed by westerners saying they don’t look “masculine” enough. They could not meet American standards which always leaned towards men having to look more masculine. Now because of kpop, there are more westerners who like that sort of “pretty boy” look. No matter how you look, there will be critics and compliments based on where you are and based on what their beauty standards are.

He said I needed a Turbinate Reduction, which was a horrible experience, but I went through with it. Long story short, it did not help at all, not even 1%. I went back to check in with the doctor and he said that I ACTUALLY need a septoplasty and since he's doing it he wants to "fix" the way my nose looks as well, because it's not "upturned enough". I was absolutely furious. I've always loved my nose. I think it has a nice shape that suits my face. I walked straight out of his office. The surgeon used some very childish negative words (far from professional) to describe features and I wish people wouldn't support him in his practice. As a teenager, I went to a plastic surgeon to have warts removed from the back of my hands and he incredibly asked me if I ever considered having my "puppet-mouth" fixed. WHAT?! I'm now in my mid 60s and have since had 2 lower facelifts. In all my years since that visit, I can't look at myself without seeing a "puppet-mouth" even though I had never even been aware of such a thing prior. And who has a "puppet-mouth" in their teens?! It's easy to label people's features with thoughtless and ridiculous labels, and grievously those comments stick with us --- most times robbing us of fully appreciating all the great things about us we do have. It takes a lot of work to erase words put over us, especially when those words have come from someone you would normally look up to. self-love is tough when it comes to appearance. you tend to be your own biggest enemy in that aspect. you don’t have to love your appearance 100% , but i hope it brings you some relief in knowing that you will always be much more critical of your own appearance. we’re very harsh on ourselves as humans. those who see you on the outside won’t perceive you the same way you perceive yourself. there is beauty in all humans , we’re all different.

That Dr Diamond bothers me because he just pushes rigid stereotypical, conventional looks rather than listening to the individuals' personal preferences. Eugene as a Korean and LGBT is talking about wanting a more delicate, androgynous face but the Dr thinks that all men should want a 'strong jaw' so he totally dismisses all his requests. Inversely, Zach has a small jaw that he didn't even mind or mentioned, but the Dr made it sound like it's a defect not to have a so-called "leading man jaw". He just feeds everyone into the same cookie cutter.

Zach mentioned his jaw at the beginning of the video and the dr said repeatedly that you could ask several surgeons about what work Eugene should have done and they’d be split. He kept saying it’s personal preference. That’s not pushing conventional beauty standards

From the age of 10 I was making lists detailing all the cosmetic surgery I believed I “needed.” Now, I’m 25 and I have a job that almost entirely revolves around my looks and figure. I always have to look like somebody that’s worth (eek) a large sum of money, and it’s a real onus. I’m naturally somebody to look after my appearance, but sometimes my career takes it to another level and it becomes painful. I’m agonizingly aware of my “flaws”: Slightly crooked and larger nose+deviated septum, slightly recessed chin, fuller cheeks… I try to comfort myself by also noticing my good features, like my eyes and my cheekbones etc. But still, I feel like I’m constantly obsessing. Your videos have really been helping me achieve a healthier perspective. I still intend on improving the parts of my appearance that I’m not fond of, but I no longer believe that I need to do some insane overhaul. It’s terrible to think about how hard on myself I’ve always been. Thank you for being so empathetic when it comes to the subjects of your videos, you’ve really improved my mindset :)

A lot of people in Korea still subscribe to physiognomy to a degree, but honestly the main issue is that getting a job can be difficult since photos are required for a job application and suddenly that first impression matters, even just to get an interview. Additionally, because cosmetic procedures have become so common, after a certain point it became pretty normal. Some people will even pop in for a filler appointment during their lunch break.
