I'm sorry if I couldn't provide more facts than I possible could. I'm more of a re-poster than anything because I'm afraid to give false information. Let me know your thoughts on everything I said. Please be respectful and kind, and don't send hate towards ANYONE.
If you know of any links/resources for Palestine, put them in the comments!

A few points: - The consensus (as I understand it) is, that the saying "let them eat cake" was already a thing when Marie Antoinette wasn't the Queen of France yet. So it is generally believed that she didn't say it, but they used the line in the movie "Marie Antoinette". - I do think celebrities and influences should speak up. They only have the following they have because people support them and are giving them money by doing that. If they aren't educated on the topic, then they have the resources to educate themselves. They have a louder voice in comparison to other people and they SHOULD give their platform to the voices of the people who are suffering and need the help. It's not about making these famous people less famous or make them stop what they love (e.g. songwriting, performing, acting, vlogs, etc.), it is about using the power they have on social media for a good thing. They have a huge influence (given by us, the people) and therefore a certain responsibility, no matter if they asked for it or not. In a position of power you usually have a choice and a majority of them made the choice to blatantly ignore the issue. It is true that we don't know what happens behind closed doors, they could've donated thousands of dollars to charity and all that, but that's not the issue. That is not what they are criticized for. They are criticized and blocked for not using their influence PUBLICLY once. The Palestinians have asked us for one thing: to raise awareness. To make them feel heard and seen, because they have been denied that for too long. Also: I am so sick of hearing the excuse that a certain celebrity or influencer is not speaking up because "it is not safe for them do so". How is it not safe? In what way are BILLIONAIRES impacted by advocating for human rights? By calling for a ceasefire? Yes, their work could be impacted by it. But that's NOTHING compared to what Palestinians have been going through for almost a decade. Nothing. I also just think this is a time in which many people realized that celebrities aren't that special and shouldn't be idolized/romanticized. They are human and should stand up for humanity.

Thanks for the insight on the "let them eat cake" quote! I had no idea. "The Palestinians have asked us for one thing: to raise awareness. To make them feel heard and seen, because they have been denied that for too long" 100% agree with all you've said.

As a Palestinian I’m so happy and proud that you made a literal entire video for this so thank you 🤍🫶🏼 Celebrity culture has just been angering me the last few months (as a swiftie I can’t even stand Taylor as well) they live in a fantasy world of their own and I realise are just puppets to distract us and push forth consumerism, they are selfish (not all of course but most) and only care about their own pockets, disgusting delusional people like that don’t deserve our attention, admiration or money Like what’s the point of you if you cannot speak up about a genocide? If it was Ukraine everyone was with them and they all posted standing with them but with Palestinians they don’t, such hypocrites Also about the hostage situation, isnotreal doesn’t give two fucks about their hostages and have continuously turned down agreements h*m*s has put forth, the hostages are simply an excuse to bomb everyone and a lie that’s being pushed forward by the heavily biased and manipulative media and that brainwashed uneducated people believe, their goal is the wipeout of a whole nation and the takeover And gurl you keep saying you’re trying to be well informed and from what I hear you are and are speaking very passionately in a great way so stop stressing 😂 anyway thats my rant and additional 2 cents

I’d never heard of Hailey Bailey until this situation. I’m sure she didn’t intend to offend anyone and I agree she felt pretty wearing the dress and wanted to stay on theme, it’s just in poor taste and horrible timing.

Who could save Palestine faster, bts or taylor swift? anyways aside from celebs, we should also critique the billionaires who have so much power and actively influence the u.s government. I really do think if powerful celebs have potential to really make SOME FORM of change in their country (if not Palestine then local issues like abortion laws, affordable housing, taxes). But when they fly private jets to their private residences, whatever is affecting the normal people doesn't really matter...

yes such a great point, billionaires have an unfathomable amount of wealth and influence. It's crazy that we ask so much of ourselves and our peers, and we have students protesting, risking getting arrested and hurt, putting their careers and health on the line, to make a change. We boycott so many brands and donate money, but the people who have the greatest influence choose not to do anything.

I agree with what you discussed and I also think people assume some celebrities/influencers show everything they do when they might help or cause change behind closed doors without anyone knowing. The only people who know is them and not everyone can speak or talk about where they stand or what they do because it’s not safe or they’re scared of the reaction of others. I think as long as people do what they can with what they have to help in anyway it’s okay.

Let them do what they’re wanna do in private but with their platform the bare minimum is posting about it and raising awareness, there’s no such thing abt them “not being safe” that’s just a cowardly approach, and ppl are dying there’s bigger problems than them thinking people won’t like them
@Lizbeth9503

@@ha_limabeanz that’s why I agree with her that they should speak because of the power their platform holds but those who don’t doesn’t necessarily mean they don’t care or want to because they could help in other ways. And any body could be threatened or bullied if they say something people don’t like or agree with which can, in my opinion, cause an unsafe environment which can cause even more suffering and damages than good.

Something I’d like to add is that the United States is political allies with Israel and that may be something celebrities may not want to deal with. Or just a fact of information why it seems like many people make a big deal about the hostages and overlook the bombings in Palestine

I really hope the ad block thing will make real positive changes but I’m not convinced. I’m pessimistic but I don’t want this to become another fad and then forgotten about in a few weeks or months. I’ve never been celeb crazed or anything anyway. I grew up in the 90s so didn’t grow up with social media. My generation was a bit different that way. Anyway I appreciate you speaking out and expressing your thoughts. Sending love to u and everyone, especially the people suffering horrific human rights abuse in Palestine 🙏❤️

Yeah, it feels like this "blockout" is another trend that will come and go, but I'm glad that it made people come to terms with why we even worship these celebs to begin with. Sending you love as well! 💝

I've only gotten to 7 minutes in, but I need to correct. Marie Antoinette never said those words. It was a rumor started by those who hated her in the court for being an outsider. Marie Antoinette was from Austria who married into the French royal family. She also got caught up in other scandals thanks to her court like the diamond necklace affair.

as someone who grew up listening to taylor, i really started side eyeing her since 2019 when she used lgbtq issues just as an aesthetic for album and made lover some sort of political awakening especially as a 29 yr old. She speaks about political issues when it affects her personally and now with the issue in gaza her silence is deafening but not surprising. She's always been self servant first. i know that she pushes consumerism with 100 vinyls variants and poor quality merch made in sweat shops. Celebrities don't want to talk about real issues in the world when the day come when it starts to directly effect their pockets they'd be racing to make statements. you might be the only bookinfluencer i've seen make a video openly to address issues in gaza time and time again.
