The short answer is yes... This is the outcome of my dealings with John Dow over a faulty oil tank.... I use the tank to restore and repair old machine tools at my shop...... John Dow stepped up to the plate even though I never even told them I had a problem...

I use something like that all the time. I have found that the small tubes are really only good with warm oil. But they work fine on a warm engine and can pull out the oil from the dipstick tube in just a few minutes. Also, once you have pulled a good vacuum on the tank, you can disconnect the air hose and take the tank to where it's needed, and it can pull the oil with just the stored vacuum as long as the tank isn't very full.

Great tip! Most all the oil I change is cold and no way to warm it... I used the old one a lot while using degreaser to dilute the oil...

I've had mine about two years now. It's been great since day 1. Sorry to hear you had a less than stellar experience.

The only real damage was the stained floor that can't be fixed... I really don't think it was something they would have caught unless they painted it themselves...

I use a similar system the machines do need the fluid changed, I understand that water could cause rust and corrosion but acid could too. Chemistry is complex and with additives then combining different fluids who knows what chemical reactions were taking place. An oxidizing process of some sort, but who knows as your experiment was on your floor, days like that best to just say in bed. Good to see your doing well after your medical event. Stay with it, thank you for the video with the end to beginning approach. Cheers!

The only way this happened, that I can think of, is a bad piece of metal. The pinholes were very small in diameter and very deep. Had to be something embedded in the metal that disintegrated...

Hey Steve... Seems the people at John Dow are willing to resolve issues in todays world of overseas manufacturing it is common now to have theses issues. long gone are the days of American made pride... Its a shame... Hopefully they will see this video and come up with some quality control improvements to test these rigs before they are shipped.. thanks for the video....

They seemed to care and took care of me without me even asking.. Of course I have a RU-vid Channel and a big mouth, but they could have just let it slide and fade away.....

The gauge was probably fine when they shipped it. A lot of times the violence of transport and the fact the needle is spring loaded can shake one hard enough that it jumps the peg. I see it pretty often.

Was this an overseas manufactured product sold in America? Pretty sad that you got 2 duds especially when the supplier gave you a comp item for the defective model. Thanks for sharing.

Didn't you use that first one to get the oil out of that old Axelson you were working on. Has it already been two years? Time goes by fast.

If you put 5 gal of oil in the new one, why isn't the gauge showing oil inside? It looks empty. The old evacuator on the right shows it has oil inside.

It is showing on the white plastic tube on the new one... Look low on the tube... That tank holds a little more than 20 gallons... The old one does have used oil in it as I repaired it in the linked video.... It's now living a comfy life at Don's shop : )
