SHOULD you buy a MANUAL or AUTOMATIC MUSTANG GT? 

Wife said "You should get an auto so I can drive it. " So yeah, I bought a manual.

I think i heard differently. An automatic is like your ex wife, she gets you through everyday. A manual is like your typical mistress, you have fun and excitement over the weekends. Damn, i need to pay my psychiatrist a visit.

But what YOU want either way your still going to hear the same shit all the time. "Auto is faster" oh yea well "stick is more fun" the cycle never ends

Percentage of time driving mine that I wish it was a manual.... about 10%. Percentage that I love it being an auto and that it just shifted better than I could have... 90%. Percentage of time that you will love driving a 460HP beast no matter what stirs the pot ..100% If its a daily driver and you live in the city, a manual is a huge pain in the ass. Also, acceleration in the auto is almost like an tesla.. just a constant buildup of speed with no head bouncing off the seat between each shift.. Its like a rocket. Unless you are in Sport or Drag mode and the shifts slam like a hammer, but all forward.. no clutch dip. I had a Challenger RT manual for 2 years and loved it, but the Auto Mustang is much easier and fun to drive around Phoenix. And don't forget, when taking the twisties, you get to steer with 2 hands and never be in the wrong gear, never miss a shift. The fact is there are just different benefits to each. There is no right or wrong choice. Except getting the Camaro. That would be dumb. ;)

You made a great point. In a manual, every shift is different. So it's always a different experience. You never get bored.

I went with the manual in my 2019 GT because I wanted to be more connected to the car. Anyone can drive an automatic. If you want to go fast, just mash the gas and go. Where is the fun or the skill in that? I fond that it keeps me more focused on the road too. It's my daily driver too so it is a commitment. Bigger issue for me was what to do when the snow comes. Rear Wheel drive and Michigan winters don't mix. My wife has a truck though, so now we will just take her car when we have snow. Win-Win.

I think it's all depends, where you live, what's your intentions for the car, what's your driving style and more...

I went manual and always will. As long as I can still beat 392s I’m ok with my decision.

Many people now a days just want automatics cuz its faster and easier to dive but theres nothing like going thro gears and being connected to your car. Its all about your preference in what you like. Good video 🙏

I prefer a manual transmission. It is just more enjoyable and gives you more control.

My previous 13 Mustang was a manual, great car. My 19 is a 10r80, slap that sucker in sport mode and it's like no other auto, period. It's 10 speed 4 me. The Coyote is paired perfectly with Ford's new 10 speeds

I have daily driven three generations of Mustangs since 2000. I would be bored out of my mind with an automatic. There's so much more control and pleasure shifting your own gears.

Really it’s all personal preference. I bought mine because I love the experience of driving the 6 speed. It’s about taking it out and having a good time. Had I bought the car strictly for track times, surely would’ve considered the automatic. Can’t go wrong with either but it’s manual for me for what I bought the car for.

I’ve driven a manual as long as I’ve been able to drive and wanted to go with a manual on my GT. But, since I live in AZ, remote start was a must. So, I went with an auto. I still absolutely love to drive it, but the manual is definitely fun.

Driving an auto transmission is very comfy and relaxing. But if I want that I will take a seat in a train or on my couch 😉

I am 50 years Old and every time I drive my Manual I feel 19 early 20's again.. That's what it does for me... It's spins me back to the best Days of my life! When I was young and everything was everything! Also When I was Younger that was all we drove, were manuals back then.. And we didn't call it Rev matching.. We just did it..

I would love a stick shift but, LA Traffic and track performance is superb in the 10 Speed.

Sick ride! My first 3 cars were manual Fords. The second and third were Mustangs. (Wish I still had that '66.) I have never been more excited about new Mustangs than now! Ford nailed it this time! If I get another Mustang, it will have to be a manual! For me, an automatic Mustang would just be wrong!

I daily drive my 6 speed and I live in the Bay Area but I still love it 😍 it brings me more joy than hate

They're both awesome. I went with the 10 speed. Live in the city and this is my daily so made the most sense.

Manual muscle car FTW!! The thing is manuals may be a thing of the past some day. Many performance cars today don't even have a manual option.

I’d rather be able to control the car the way I want to on my own with a stick shift car plus they are 1000’s of dollars cheaper to fix than automatics 🚫🧢

2017 Mustang GT Manual here!!!

I'm an old guy who grew up during the late 60's when cars like the 440 Charger, 390 Mustang, 396 Chevelle ruled the street and they all had 4 speed transmissions. Automatics of that era sucked but were fine for family cars. Anyway I'm probably driving my last car, a 2023 Mustang GT 5.0 with a 6 speed transmission and it's glorious. No racing or drifting but simple cruising around town and in the mountains around Denver. I'll admit modern automatic transmission equipped cars are amazing and are actually faster but the manual shifting just feels right to me.

Even though I would enjoy the 6sp I went with the 10sp and 😍 love it. It’s all about what the driver wants. As long as it’s a Mustang!!

Test drove the 10 speed, it shifts very nice and quick, smooth, but it almost felt like I was cheating, it left too "easy" to drive.

This was/is my question. At first I am thinking auto, and a friend agrees "you'll hate a manual in traffic". But then I thought, "I'm retired, I really don't sit in traffic". I never had a problem with a stick, from a 70 GTO 4-speed to a Ford Escort 5 speed so that's not an issue. And yes, an ICE w/a clutch should be fun.

So torn on what decision to make. I have the mindset of "its a Mustang, it should be manual" but at the same time, the car will be winter driven, daily driven, and I drive in quite a bit of traffic on a daily basis.. daily driving manual wouldn't be an issue. I dont think winter would be either. Biggest thing is sitting in traffic. I do about 20 minutes of traffic in the morning, and another 20-30 on the way home. Every Friday I cross a bridge with about an hour of traffic both ways.

My friend owns a charger hellcat (auto of course) and he also owns a 2016 challenger hellcat with the 6sp...His track car is the auto,his manual car is everything else.Hr loves his manual,theres nothing like them for people who can drive and appreciate the fun u get from it.

Looking to get a 2020 Mustang GT and thought I wanted a manual, but you’re making me rethink that. I saw that the AT gets 0-60 in 3.9, but the manual is 4.3, so there’s a clear winner. I won’t really be tracking it (but who knows), just prefer the faster one if I had to choose.

I love the sound of manual downshifts & it’s more fun but I live in a city with traffic everyday . Only planning on owning one car .

Most importantly I love to lazy granny shift and listen to that exhaust note! Then come to some good rev matchin downshifts at a light! If I’m being honest I’m no certified racer and I’d enjoy manual a lot more no matter where I’m living.

Manual all the way. I bought my 2017 Challenger SRT in manual ...no hesitation. Waaaay more fun. Out of every 10x I take the car out... I might race someone once maaaybe twice. Also... I beat automatics all the time. Most people out there do NOT know how to drive a car aggressively. Even if it’s automatic.

I love my 2000 Mustang Coupe 3.8 with a manual 5. Gravel roads are where it shines the most

10 speed auto ONLY on these 2018+ GT’s. The manual transmission are super weak. I would get a 2013 get with the mt82 over the new one

I live in SF so I had to buy a auto - hills ain’t the business. If you live on a flat plane - manual is the way to go.

It really depends on the driver and transmission you get with the car. I have a 2022 Mach 1 and went with the 6 speed because it has the Tremec. If I were to have bought the GT I would have opted for the auto since the 6 speed is an MT82. Had one in my 2013 Boss 302 and absolutely hated it, just my opinion.

I am automatic type of guy cuz I just like paddle shifters but if I wear to take a manual I would take a shelby gt350r, I hate manual just because of driving in traffic

Manufacturers are making it harder and harder to decide. Manuels helps you feel more connected and the car more predictable, but the autos are faster, with better gas mileage, and nicer for 98% of your daily driving. Can't fault a person for picking either one.

Tbh it’s a tough decision because autos have become so great now and you can shift it when you want but more expensive to repair not as fun but it I had to chose I’d pick the manual

10 Speed Auto for me, because I live near a city with a TON of traffic... plus the 10 speed is quicker. People say manuals are more fun, but to me, what's more fun is being able to beat the guy in the other lane. 10 speed makes that a bit easier.

I got auto be ause of the area I live in. Whenever I "race" I just shift into sport and manually drop to 3rd/4th (depends on speed), wait for the beeps, and gun it. Plus I feel slightly safer holding the wheel with both hands while flying down the interstate

automatics are more chill to drive. You don't have to worry about anything. you want to go you release the brake pedal, press the gas and you go. You want to stop, you brake. I'd get an automatic but only with shift pedals (i love those things)

I bought a 2013 mustang 5.0 with a 6 speed manual transmission. Now I’ve got a 2018 5.0 6 speed manual. I drive a manual transmission car because it’s more fun and I’m in more control of the car. If I just want a fast car I’d just get one with an electric motor.

all the people nowadays want the auto but there's a certain purity of a manual transmission car. It really does depend on the purpose of the car. I own mine to simply enjoy the car.

The 10 speed auto no doubt. Get gapped at the strip all day by 10r80's if you have a manual. If you are using it for road course fun then get a manual but if you intend to use it at the drag strip then 10r80 no doubt.

If you modify to any extent get the transmission you want. The manual gets more power to the ground but has waaaay worse gear spacing. So toss the 2018-19 MT82 and get the better older MT82 with 5th gear 1:1 for more under-driven gears and get a little shorter rear gears like 3.91s or 4.10s. Unfortunately that's the only way to make up for the superior number of under-driven gears in the 10-Speed auto until they make an 8-Speed manual or something.

I own a Mustang GT PP2 and I wish I got the automatic. I'm in 5mph bumper to bumper traffic 90% of the time. It's so bad I may eat a loss just to trade into an automatic.

That falls on opinion stock for stock manuals r fun but autos can also be fun in the right hands and still win races 👌💪👍💯🔥🍀✅

I'm a Mopar man, and I'm really digging the mustang. Maybe next year, I'll ditch the 392, and go for a GT. Manual cars keep you engaged, and more alert imo.

i’m still conflicted. on one end, i want a 10 speed automatic. fastest stock car out there, with upgrades i’d never lose a race. but i love driving manual cars. i love the connection. i don’t race that often either, but even if i did surely the manual version isn’t THAT much slower than a 10-speed, right? it would be a say driven car to work, the gym, the store etc. idk what to do

This is what I try to tell my customers. If you’re going to the drag strip a lot and are just chasing times, get the auto. If you want the extra engagement, get the manual. We sell a lot of 401a 10 speeds. Now that the 19s have auto rev matching. I wouldn’t mind trading my 17 for one. I can rev match on my own. But sometimes I’m lazy 😂 but I’d likely buy another manual. Even though the MT-82 is a terrible transmission.

How do you get a smooth shift at high rpm. Do you release the clutch slowly? I find myself waiting a long time for the rpm to drop in order to get a smooth shift.

I own a 2023 Chevy 2500 turbo diesel and I just bought a 2020 used ford mustang GT automatic with 50k miles on the dot so my wife can drive it. I love her so I let her play with my toys since she’s used 😅 when I get the 2026 mustang new after I learn about this one then it will be manual just for shits and giggles. I can say that shit automatic can keep up with manual cars any day. They made this one good

I prefer my auto -14 gt after owning the manual for a couple years was great on the highway but I stay in a city area just was lil more displeasing , but with my auto I can do both with my current set up I easily beat manual and before say user error even pros mess up. So personally I prefer auto

Performance 1 auto black hands down... If I could lease it. But Ford doesn't do lease programs/incentives on the 5.0.

It takes skill to drive a manual and it’s sad that it’s becoming a lost art. Yes, technology has given way to automatics that are great at straight line performance. Yes there are advantages to an automatic but I agree the manual has a certain connection with the car that you don’t get in the 10R80 automatic. I recently got a 2019 PP1 with the manual and I absolutely love it. The new transmission seems to work fine for me, although the different gearing lacks a bit of the snap of the S197 with the manual and 3.73 rear. I get Mopars and auto Mustangs constantly doing the flyby bs....you’re faster, good for you. I enjoy the car purely for me and not to prove to everyone else that it’s fast....kind of funny too when going in for service and the advisor has to call a tech to move the car.....can’t drive stick....LOL.

For me I like auto. 2 reasons, 1: Adaptive cruise control is miles better with an auto. and 2: With a 700 horsepower car, you kinda wish you got it.

There is no comparison...Manual ALL THE WAY. I like to actually DRIVE my sportscars....not have the car drive me....if I wanted to be a passenger, I'd get a Cadillac. Driving an auto takes almost 0 skill in a straight line nd is boring as crap after 1 week. For the Auto is faster crowd- yeah in a straight line (Id race you on a track) ...but guess what.... a GPS driven car will be faster than you steering soon too...if that's what you like, great....just go on a roller coaster. Be a driver...get a manual.

I personally have an auto for a couple of reasons. Where I bought my mustang the automatic had the V8 and the manual was a four cylinder. Also they're are too many hills here.

I actually prefer a fast shifting auto over manual found of European cars. But when it comes to mustangs and camaros I prefer the manual. The shift delay when you hit the paddles is unacceptable on a performance car.

I chose the auto for my 18 mustang because I heard the MT-82 is shitty in the mustang so I didn’t want to deal with it. Plus I just use the paddles if I wanna control my car myself 🤷🏾‍♂️. The auto is fun

yea im gonna do what you said ngl. test drive both the manual and a automatic and see which one i would want. Not gonna lie i would prob drive it a few times a week. mainly because I already have a car rn and could use it as my daily driver. the mustang gt is one of my dream cars and i cant wait till i get one but this decision between the manual and the automatic is hard for me. im only 17 at the moment and i hope at least i can get this car before the age of 21-24.

If I get a manual , I’m only racing other manuals. There’s no point in racing a computer.
