Should You Buy a MERCEDES AMG GT? (Test Drive & Review 4.0 GTS) 

What a fantastic looking and sounding car, it sounds brilliant with the exhaust fully open, I'm in my 50's and I don't think I'd have any problem getting in and out of it, try a 1973 Triumph Spitfire which I had back in the day, the windscreen overlaps the cabin entry, I couldn't count the number of times that I belted my knee off of it when I got into it lol, great review though, I always click the like button on your videos as soon as it starts as I know that I will be watching a quality review, I've never been disappointed yet.

Having followed your channel for a good while now your passion and knowledge of cars is clearly a big factor for your YT success. I'd also like to add that your preparation and delivery of the content makes the difference to other similar channels . High peak History channel is an easy yes to subscribe to . PS Cars not too shabby!!

Damn you! I’m now the happy owner of a Volvo V90 Cross Country after watching your S90 video. I also own a MK3 Audi TTS Convertible after watching your video. I’m not entirely happy with the Audi due to a lack of cylinders. I’m now watching this video and there’s a convertible version available….

A beautiful car and definitely a keeper. It’s got that touch of real class. Listening to your description of the GTS , it struck me how similar the GTS is to my RWD f type R (both can be terrifying!) . Except the f type has the party trick of quiet cruising in comfort setting, which makes it a lovely long distance GT. I can’t afford to daily the f type though because I do lots of short journeys. Lets hope there’s some type of fuel for us in the future.

Tip for changing songs or stations on the multimedia screen while in Nav (or anywhere) - press the play/pause button on the centre touchpad, a little toaster message pops up on the centre screen of what is currently being played, then slide right or left on the touchpad (or turn the big toggle wheel) to jump to next or prev song/station.

I love how throught the video, while driving and speaking, you added many shots and videos of the car. not only very nice car to look at but also keeps the video entertaining, unlike most other personal car reviews like this.

I love that car and really wanted one. Agree…a timeless classic… gorgeous. Then drove it, not for me, in fact gutted. The 911 had finesse, balance, handling, speed, great driver visibility & deep engineering, the Merc was like a US muscle car. Trouble was I’ve had 911’s and in comparison they’re now not special. So decided to specialise and found a lovely low mileage Merc AMG S63 coupe for GT cruising and a Ferrari F430 for sports car engagement.

I think this is one of most beautiful cars ever made, it's very stylish

The m156 6.2 is a superb engine had a couple and nothing beats the sound they used to make

Matt, if you set up another channel talking about the Industrial Revolution I can guarantee that you would get LOADS of subs and viewings! I'm a MASSIVE petrol head, and love your vids on cars, but I'm also really fascinated by history, especially the Industrial Revolution. And what two subjects really go together? Cars, and their evolution/history, and the Industrial Revolution. Also with your delivery style on your vids I reckon you could be the Mark Felton of Industrial Revolution history vids.

My abiding memory of my test drive was the seating position in that you sit deep inside the car as can be seen in the video when your elbow couldn’t reach the top of the door without stretching upwards to rest on it. Other cars involve sitting above the steering wheel rather than behind it. Truly involving and truly sporty.

Make a video series about the industrial revolution. I'd watch it, love that stuff.

It is possible to change music track from the map screen, just swipe two fingers apart 🤪 on the touch pad, the music screen will overlay the map and you can swipe back forward as you wish.

I'm by no means a real car enthusiast. I go as deep as watching Doug demuro on occasion. But imo I think people will look back on this car 10-30 years from now as an absolute classic. I totally agree with you that this car has an absolute timeless look. Let's see if that's right in a few decades.

Great car... Merc knew exactly what they needed to do, to update and sell a modern Porsche 928 gte. I would buy one, but I would secretly wish and hope it was a Porsche 928 :)

...sends all of its power to the rear wheels, which can be terrifying...... Then Matt stomps on the go faster pedal haha. Yes catching a reflection in shop windows when in your favorite car, does give a lift to your day. A touch of British understated design. No extra Bling required here.

I drove this on the circuit a few years back. It’s one of the best handling cars out there and the long bonnet looks amazing from the inside.

I'm aiming to get one of these in the next few years, they just seem to be a perfect all rounder. So much more desirable to me than most peoples usual choice!

My great great grandfather Sidney Potter was a calico printer in partnership with others from the 1830's He was elected to the town council late in 1840's before Manchester became a city. I would be interested to know where his printing works was. His brother Edmund, Beatrix's grandfather, also a calico printer, moved to Glossop and became the biggest calico printer in the world. If you ever get chance, try the GTS experience session at Mercedes world. I had the pleasure of driving the nuts off one last year and it was bloody wonderful- they handle and steer wonderfully on track. Great video.

Having owned a GTS version all I can say is that its a rather good thing you didn't drive the GTR. It IS that much better and worth the difference. Mine is Hulk Green.

I think this is the overall best looking modern Mercedes sports car! In my eyes this us the true successor of the 300SL gullwing. I want my in silver.

Yes…one of those please! One thing I am surprised by is the difficulty you mention changing radio settings. My R231 SL is a perfect lesson in how to do things properly. I get real buttons and knobs that work instantaneously and the Harmon Kardon is outstandingly good…altering or changing anything is as fast as your hand can move BUT if you wish, you can tell it to change and it will do it all for you. Navigation is good even if a few years old but then you use Waze anyway! I really love my SL and look forward to an AMG GT…hopefully 2019 onwards!🤞🏼🤞🏼🤞🏼😀😀😀😀😀

The AMG V8 is a dying breed which is a big shame. Such a great example in this spec too. I hope I get a chance to drive one of these some day!

I watch your videos just because I find you extremely funny, even though you're mainly spouting boring twaddle about cars. If you did a series about something I'm genuinely interested in, I'd be so excited I'd need to cross my legs!

I was considering getting a GT for the looks and handling, but for an everyday car I decided to the the C63S estate (S205), which has the same engine and driving modes, for the cargo space so when I buy something from the shops I can take it home with me rather than have to get it delivered. I think the C63s estate has made the optimal comprises for everything provided you don't want to go offroad or toe anything. I still want a GT though!

Mercedes 63 has me sold full stop. It is a stunning design and your a lucky man. I’d be happy with the smallest C class coupe but that design is pencil fluidity of sleekness and style. BMW and Audi could never match that design, the 2 door 6 series comes close as better than good but this smashes it into the weeds.

Proper muscle car. I've driven an 2008 Slk 55AMG which my family own. The 0-60 is about the same and it sounds fabulous. With no turbos there is real exhaust noise. Its a lot lighter hence how it can accelerate so fast. Sadly not so much effort went into the handling and it does feel nose heavy. It really does give you the feel good factor thanks to convertible, low seating, 400bhp in a car smaller than a focus and that soundtrack is addictive. The interior is very dated but it's comfortable. I don't like sitting that low in 3 Lane city traffic but for country roads on the weekend worth now about 10k it's a bargain.

I’m glad you liked yours but I just couldn’t get on with mine. Definitely a good looking car but I just felt it hadn’t been developed on British roads and was far too choppy and unstable on anything other than a track and the steering was too darty. Seats were uncomfortable for long journeys and interior cheap for what it’s up against. Note you can skip / change songs with button by the gear selector when in Bluetooth audio and still on maps. Took me owning a few Mercs to work that out ;) I’d also encourage a tune - like an absolute missile after a stage one map! Snarls and growls were mega in S+ The R is definitely worth the extra, did a lap of the ring in one and it makes a 911 GT3 RS feel like a Golf R in comparison. Another great review though - keep them coming

It's a car to keep in a garage, drive once in a while, and sell when it becomes classic or carry on owning a piece of magnificent engineering... but not a daily run around...

Hi Matt I was just looking at your joint offering on old and newish Range Rovers, and was taken by your conversation on 'retail customers' and I've had many years of experience of dealing with the public in all sorts of situations . I have to say though the 'sales staff' in the 'trade' in many cases leave a lot to be desired too. Only this week I visited a large retail group, walked around the show area for 10 minutes or so, not approached by anyone, I eventually found a staff member , who was from 'finance' who fetched somebody else who knew little if anything about the car I wanted to buy even down to the asking price, who then waisted another ten minutes filling in a form for some reason, presumably for a ' data base' then fetched the 'sales manager' who though told it would be a cash sale, preceeded to tell me all about their 'finance offers' and wanted me to come into the office to discuss the sale , which apparently would take another 20 minutes because giving a part exchane figure was difficult ! At that point I left. Really enjoy your channel although I can't share your love of 'Range Rovers'.

Great video, we are looking at buying one of these and this was really helpful. I notice you mentioned 2 annoying things. The screen and road noise. We offer car okay for these cars as well as sound proofing to reduce road noise.

Loving all your content. can I suggest to you that you put a High pass filter (cut off the bass end of your audio) as when I play your videos through my sound system, the bass rumble shakes the windows! This filtering will make all your dialogue sound a lot clearer too! there's probably a basic filter system in your editing software.... DM me for more info if you want.

Yup, I'd watch a High Peak History series, so long as you remember to tell the rest of the world that almost everything technological started in the North of England..... With a bit of Cornwall and Scotland added for seasoning. "Mark Williams Industrial Revelations" should, IMHO, be compulsory viewing in all middle schools. So there's your bar Matt! Ps, I'm from Lancashire, obviously.

Had one for the day, worst points for me were that it can’t lay its power down and the pothole noise and effect makes you think your dash is going to fall off. Plus points were MPG and Lambo attention, both of which I wasn’t expecting.

Thanks for the honest review. On the strength of it I won't be buying one. For £130k, I expect zero road noise, comfort and a hassle free entertainment centre.

There's something very appealing about Merc sports cars. I know the big reviewers complain that they're not sporty enough etc etc but meh. I've been dithering between an SL400 and an SLC43 - going for the SLC. £30k for a proper pocket rocket.

You're right, when was the last time you saw this model on the road!The clean lines are something Mercedes are good at.New model for 2023 being produced,but your GTS still looks better than that(from the images I've seen so far).After polishing it,how long do you stand admiring it ?Blue metallic suits it to a tee !
