A "me too" moment. When I come off the tools and just do testing and inspecting electricals I could fit everything in that boot and, unlike my van, it's less likely to be robbed clean. These days a trade van have more money in the back than your wallet and no penalty for nicking everything in it.

33 and another "old man's car" enthusiast! Just want something reliable, something that does its job, where you can sit comfortably over a long journey and something that offers enough space if you ever wanna transport bigger items... Performance isn't that important and as a designer myself I feel that a lot of "old man's cars" are actually really pleasing pieces of design. Most people don't notice it and that's exactly when their design is perfect, they're supposed to be under-stated, not bold but smooth and quiet...

Hi, I've just bought the 1.4 tsi s Superb a few days ago, paid £4550. Wow the space inside will amaze you. I'm nearly 6 foot tall and I lay down in the back with seats folded down, no problem! Nice amount of toys also fitted, just feels like I'm in a luxury limousine. Definitely have a look into one of these. All the best

Having had a selection of original Superbs (stretched B5), mk2's and now the third generation model, I can honestly say they're one of the best made cars out there. A couple of points... The Octavia is based on a stretched Golf pan, and the Superb is a stretched Passat. Luxury Skodas are for people who appreciate amazing quality, refinement & economy, but aren't fooled by so-called premium badges.
@HighPeakAutos
@HighPeakAutos 5 лет назад
They're great cars. I know the Octavia is based on the Golf platform, but I meant the Passat is more of a rival to the Octavia

@Richard FittonPerkins I know exactly what you're talk about Sir. My Wife worked for JLR (Jaguar/Land Rover) for many years. During that time I purchased a late model 2019 Ford Edge. She was able to get its first service done for a fraction of the price that Ford wanted (mainly because it was basically only an oil & filter change, & Ford were taking the pi$$ 🙄) The Jaguar tech that carried out the service drew several direct comparisons with a Jaguar F-Pace. With one important difference. As my Ford was built in Canada & was primarily intended for the Canadian/north American market where they salt their roads in winter more than we do in the UK. Apparently the underseal on my Ford was better equipped to deal with a UK winter than any other car sold in the UK? BMW X5's & Audi Q7's etc are everywhere in the UK. But I've only seen 2 Ford Edge's in 2yrs. It's a brilliant vehicle & obviously it's genuinely exclusive without the badge snobbery 😉 The only car she brought home from work that was better than our Edge was a Range Rover priced at £100k+. Yes, it was better/more luxurious. But definitely not 2.5 times better! Maybe 20% better at best?

I believe that other than the 1st gen (B5 Passat was based on the B5 A4), both the Passat and Superb are essentially stretched Golfs, much like the Polo, Fabia, Ibiza and A1 essentially being squished Golf platforms. Obviously, this is a bit of an oversimplification, but in basic terms, that’s what’s happening.

I bought my 2010 skoda superb 2.0 tdi cr 170bhp manual 80k miles late 2016 when I was 22 years old with full service history for £5800 from a prestige dealership which I bought outright saving money for a year I still have the car and love it I have modified it and been to several car shows modified nationals being one of them its dose annoy me sometimes how little attention these superbs get as in Europe they are well thought after but I like the exclusivity of the car other than when I do see one it has a taxi logo on it I haven't thought of buying a new car due to the fact I get everything i need with the superb and for me it was value for money I had sat in Passats Octavias vectra insignia and so on the superb just feels massive inside I had good leg space in the Passat and Octavia and others but felt my shoulders were squash abit the superb just feels so much bigger inside and out of all the cars i had test drove felt the most premium with how it drove and the interior with the boot space I could even roll up into a ball and fit into the back of it its huge with leg space I feel I will definitely struggle when I come looking for a new car maybe a Mercedes e class but then your paying for the badge for less leg space in the back and heavy mechanic Bill's I also refused to have a car with a parking button sorry for the long comment but I hold the superb close to my heart and wanted to share my experience with it may i also add i have 130k miles on the clock and only thing i have had done is timing change which didn't need doing but i wanted it change at 100k

I drive a Volvo V50, and am thinking of trading up to an XC70, or V70 (post 2008 facelift model) and I'm in my early 40's. Volvo is a sensible brand that offers a bit of everything imo, so transcends most age ranges, I think. The C30 for those aged 25-35, the V50/S40 for those aged 35-45, and the S60/C70/V70/XC70/XC90 for anyone above the age of 40. That said, whatever model you go for, except maybe the C30, offers different attributes that appeal to different age groups, and genders even.
@hermanmunster3358
@hermanmunster3358 4 года назад
@@taichihead42 Actually, they are made in three or four locations, to cater for their particular market. For the European market, they are manufactured in Sweden (still) and Belgium. But they also have nanufacturing plants in South Africa and Malaysia, as well as China, and possibly the US too, but I'm not 100% certain about that. But most of the BIG manufacturers have facilities, not JUST in their home countries. It makes sense to avoid import tariffs etc, and huge transportation costs, which would make their cars too expensive to sell around the world. The new Volvo line up, except the new XC40, are all really good looking cars, and meet all of the most stringent safety and economy requirements. And are still designed, for the most part, by European designers.

I bought an Octavia combi 1.9 TDI. I maintain it myself. Cheap, reliable, solid engine with plenty of torque and great for long road trips with all my toys (skis, surfboards, mountain bikes). Even slept in it on long trips. The Superb seems to be even better, although I do not know if the 2.0 TDI is as solid as the old 1.9. Apart from a 2 year break, I've had Skodas continuously since 1993, absolutely great cars if looked after. We've had 2 Favorit estates, a Rapid 136, a Fabia diesel estate and the one I've had for the past 14 years, an Octavia Classic diesel estate. Apart from service items, the only things I've had to change is tyres, 1 battery and an alternator in the Octavia. Mind you, it has clocked up over 300,000 miles and still returns over 60 mpg so can't complain. Yes, it's the same exhaust as when I bought it but it might need to be changed before we get to 400k miles lol. It's even survived being T-boned by a newer Golf. A 2nd hand Superb was on my short list when I got a 'best' car 6 months ago and only just lost out to a Volvo XC90 series 1.

I have a 2009 from new (top range one) and I still get people admiring it. Had no major issues. Only things are wiring in split boot got damaged and the heater fan stuck and a spray of wd40 sorted it. And one other thing the standard radio would fltten the battery if left on but I since replaced it with a chinese android unit 3 years ago and no bother since.

I am 38 now and I bought my first Superb 6 years ago. My first one was a Skoda Superb MK2 estate, with the newer CR version of the 140 BHP Diesel engine and a 6 gear manual. I loved that car. It was reliable, with high comfort and it was fast enough for our German Autobahns. I hat it for four years and never had a problem with it until there was a software update because of the Dieselgate. Only 4 weeks after the update 2 injectors started making trouble and Skoda wanted 1500,- € for the repair. Instead of a repair, I tried using a diesel system cleaning additive and 2-stroke oil. After about 200 kilometers all the problems were gone. 6 month after that situation I got a sensational offer about a Skoda Superb MK3 estate with 6-speed DSG and the 190 BHP engine, fully equipped. Today, two years later I can tell you, the old Superb was a really good car and I loved it, but the new Superb is lightyears ahead of it. It is a brilliant car with almost everything you can ask for. Thank you for your honest review of this wonderful secret treasure. Sorry for my imperfect English!

@Aghatatunga
@Aghatatunga 5 лет назад
@@dj_efk - my MK2 was model year 2012. The differences between the pre FL and FL are not that big. It is still a great car! My MK3 ist model year 2016. The MK3 is on a completely different level. Every single inch of the MK3 is at least one class higher than on the MK2. Please do not get me wrong, the primary reason why I switched to the MK3, were the problems I experienced after the software updates made related to the Dieselgate. But now, 2,5 years after the swith to MK3, i'd never go back to the MK2. I love this car! Years ago I had a proper Skoda, it was a 120 Super Estelle 4 speed. I have had all sorts of cars over the years but overall that car was my favourite all round car. When I took people out in it they all commented how much torque it had, how much room. It was dependable, well built, and easy to service. It was also a great cross country B road car. It had no radio but I used to enjoy the engine sound on a good drive. I also has a second luxury version with a harder to use 5 speed box and all the extras but it was not anywhere near as good as that first Skoda that I had. Happy memories

Am a Brit living in CZ. Škoda has an amazing engineering heritage (heavy engineering as well as cars) the cars are bullet proof. By the way the Škoda 130 coupe won its class on the RAC rally many times over during the 80s - it was never garbage. I ran an Octavia Scout (4x4) for a while and it was a really nice drive. I own and love my octavia 1.6fsi estate, it's comfy, solid, beautiful, smooth, reliable, frugal, reliable, practical and huge. It's a 2008. I got it for exactly 999 quid from a dealer. One thin it needs is a drivers door as the mirror is damaged and the window stuck shut- that's why it was so cheap but it's fine as is. It's got 125000 miles on it but drives great and is quiet, it has enough power, surprisingly as I thought it'd be too slow but no, it can shift well enough esp 40-80, it's so smooth it encourages you to drive easy, less harshly, that's a reason they last. Yes I have to say always buy a skoda as they don't let you down easily and they're a bargain price usually. Great honest channel by the way, love it, keep going

That's right they are genius. Guess why yr clever little mechanic told you that cos he know you will be making lots of trips back to him with repairs. Listen Skoda are just a poor man's version of a VW, Jetta, and a Golf. All the parts are really expensive and have to ordered through the dealership. You can't buy anything in a motor factor like generic parts that are the exact same as the original but a fraction of the price. Get yr self a cheap Toyota Madza. You can work on these cars yourself and the parts are reasonable and freely available in motor factors. Also you can remove the wheels without hassle. Not like on these pieces of shit where you have to thread the bolts into the hub. Go luck with that😆😆😆😆😆😆😂😂😂🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣 pieces of shit.

Well, as a Czech person, I should be agreeing with your mechanic, but... The older Superb 1.8 petrol is OK car. Certainly not the best, if you want reliability, get a used Toyota. If you want new cheap car in that category, Superb is slightly cheaper and comparable to Passat and A6.

@@HighPeakAutos Mate, I wish the pricing of Skodas in Australia would reflect the UK. Brand new here they are certainly not 20% less than a comparable Golf. As a matter of fact a brand new Octavia RS (vrs) is often more expensive than a Golf Gti, pricing in the lower spec levels is also very close. In Australia though when it comes to European brands we often don't get the same stripped out base models that are available in teh UK and Europe. Skoda in Australia are underrated and mocked by those that don't know any better. Skoda sales also seem to be held in check by supply issues (6 month wait or more for Octavia RS Kodiaq's etc.), and Skoda in Australia is run by Volkswagen. Second hand pricing is similar.

After smeone wrote off my Mk4 Mondeo earlier this year I was given a 3rd gen Superb as a hire car for a few weeks. I was out hunting for A6's, 5 series BMW's and other large German cars as I knew that any Mondeos in my price range would require the same kind of work done as mine had, and wasn't willing to fork out for that again when I had the lightbulb moment. I'd been driving around in the perfect fit. Then I came across this video (and subscribed to the channel) which sold them for me. I couldn't stretch to a used 3rd gen Surperb, but waited for a bit and finally got a top spec 2012 Greenline (even has the window blinds!) with full Skoda service history and one owner who garaged it from new. It is possibly, the best car I have ever owned (that award goes to the 205 GTi I had in 1990), and with an aftermarket head unit that supports Android Auto in there, it is now perfect. Long journies are a pleasure, the fuel economy is amazing, the ride quality absorbs road shocks wonderfully and all the high-end features such as auto lights, wipers, cornering headlights mean you just have to drive and not 'operate' the car. Can't wait to get a third gen one on a few years time.

Interesting report .I would add that back in the day of their 'relaunch' Skoda had not only a good price advantage over the price of its equivalent VW- Skodas used the next generation VW engines before they were put into the VWs and mechanically, Skodas were technically ahead. So you could buy the best badge or the latest engine. Of course if the kit had had unexpected faults, as the badge was at the bottom it could hardly suffer more and no doubt would have protected the goodwill in the upmarket VW badge - or so I always saw it.
