I have a vintage Rolex. A 1665 great white rail dial. Yeah it's great but of course lume doesn't work on vintage, service is tricky since you don't want the hands or dial messed with and movement parts are getting scarce, and water resistance, who wants to take the risk getting it wet? Also, plastic crystal. Sure you can polish it but for a new watch person it's too much to worry about.

Well done Fed, as always. Concerning the "watch list" I do totally agree with you. Right price, right moment. And I'd like to add, sometimes there are watches that just are there and you never thought to buy one, but seen in reality just scream "BUY ME!!!". I had a couple like that and never regretted the expense.

My experience with vintage was not too good. I bought a Rolex 1675 box/papers from Bob's Watches. I sat on it for a few years (tried to sell it myself) then I called Bob's Watches back and they just gave me an extreme low ball offer of $12,000. I bought it from Bob's at $22,000. Just a big head ache!! 🤑🤑🤑🤑

I think if its an iconic model better to buy new,even if its a entry luxury watch and not exactly the mkdel you wanted because repair for old watch could be realy expensive,better to buy something who could let you secure of problems for some years,of course some model didnt exist in new and if you want a specific old model well there is no other choide,just take the risk...

If vintage is anything over 20 years old, then vintage can be fine, depending on the model and brand. I own a vintage no date sub 14060m, that was serviced by Rolex in 2019. It has a relatively modern movement on no complications that can go wrong. I think vintage needs more research than just wondering into store is all. Also, modern watches tend to have a higher guess rating, useful in today's electronic world.

Any vintage rolex with a 1570 movement is money in the bank. Classic timesless design, still good timekeeping, good resale value. Bargains can still be hunted, and fakes of this Era are easily recognized if you study up just a bit. Omega is a beautiful watch, but as they say, that dog won't hunt.

There’s no set definition. But generally antiques are over 100 years old. Vintage is usually 40 or more years old. Though some places will claim 20, I don’t agree with that. Something from 2004 isn’t vintage IMO.

Follow a few watch guys online (probably the same ones we all follow... TB being the top of the list and used to also follow this guy who calls himself the Time Teller...although sometimes entertaining his response to my question about Marathon told me he didn't know WTF he was talking about. He said he didn't like it because it was cheap and plasticky. First, it's not about whether he liked it or not its that his description and reason for not liking it is entirely made up and does not describe the watch at all, which is a hefty well built watch meant for military use.). Fed has always been approachable and straight up and honest. Add to that his broad and deep knowledge of all the major brands and watch history and you get what you need from any watch guy. Not to bash others on your site there Fed but the fact remains you and Teddy are the top two IMO. All others are a distant second. Andrew Morgan is up at your level as well.

@@lonewolfemcquade8133 I don't agree necessarily. He has plenty of videos where he discusses both pro and con of each brand. Teddy does that most of the time.

@JYLee-rr1sy 3 месяца назад
@@lonewolfemcquade8133 I disagree but respect you have a right to your opinion. Teddy has his favorites, he likes the Bauhaus simple modern style...he's never made that a secret, repeated his affinity for this style and associated brands clearly repeatedly. That's not one sided in my opinion. That's just preference. However, he likewise shows respect and appreciation for all watch brands for what they are and clearly describes downsides, even with watch brands he likes.....to me that is the definition of objectivity (the ability to see both pro and con of any watch brand, regardless of whether they are a brand you personally like).
