Hopefully this will help those trying to decide whether or not to spend the extra money for the Schlage Original F Series Knobs or save money and buy the “new” (hardly) Schlage Essentials doorknobs :)
I just love it when I get a call to repair a lock and it's the $10 big box store flavor...Why I do have the parts to fix that...just let me open the box to your new set here.
Very good video. One Note, however: Having to turn the thumb button actually serves as a big positive SAFETY feature, especially for people who live alone, many elderly and women included. If you hear someone at your door, when you're not expecting anyone, and you want to double check to make sure you locked the door, you simply put your hand on the knob and when it doesn't turn, you know it's locked ! And none of us has ever locked ourselves out! That said, due to this video, I'd probably splurge and buy the more expensive, original Schlage knob & deadbolt to match.
I feel so dumb… all the knobs on my house are those Geo Schlage knobs and not ONE time while installing them or working on them did it ever occur to me to just pop the knob off to tighten the screws straight on….
Enjoyed the break down, I guess that the First Secure by Schlage sold at Walmart is the same as design house , bought one just to pick and play with but I got a Deadbolt. The key does have schlage on it. Great video. Take care and be well. 👍🙂 #lockforce
oh ya and the funny thing was i was about to change my door knobs a while back and they seemed gritty and sticky and lube ( 2in 1 oil) it was all i had at the time ,didnt seem to help much and then i got some Houdini and decided to try that and now it works like butter ,almost like there is nothing in it. my son actually thought there was something wrong with it the first time he unlocked it because he could not feel it doing any thing when he turned the key he didnt even think it unlocked at all ,till he tried the knob lol oh and you should of seen the black crap that dripped out the bottom and down my door gross and i didnt even use vary much! and yes its a cheap Kwikset ,from walmart i think!
Jason another video with great content. Being an Old Goat who hates having to angle screws I always look for the little tabs to make life a little easier. Thanks.
I have a front door Baldwin 'double lock system with the curved handle on the outside.' I need to replace both the top & bottom mechanism, for a total of about $100. Should I simple replace it all with a a premium Schlage? Also, are the templates same of do I need to cut new holes. Thanks!
It’s nothing more than a Defiant with a SC1 key way. They are exactly the same. Just a rebranded lock. The only thing that’s Schlage is the Name. I’ve used them before and they are OK but not the same Quality as a Schlage. Not that I’m down on Defiant, I use them all the time in my rental property maintain everything business. It’s what the owners want.
That was an interesting video. Wow a fake brass core, now that says "ripped off' right there. To the lay person who doesn't get to pull the lock apart in the shop, they would assume they were getting solid brass. Thanks for this video, cheers
This is a great Video. Most consumers don't give too much thought to the FEATURES of the different types (cost levels) of locksets. You should do an expsnded video on the three main grades of locks, main differences between grades, then sub differences like single vs double return springs. Great content as always.
Great analysis Jason, I always wonder what corners were cut to get to the cheapest version so it’s awesome to see inside and actually know the differences. I always cry for the lack of quality but from Schlage’s perspective they’re probably tired of all those Defiant clones eating their lunch so I guess they’re just giving the people what they want. I guess I’m fine with it as long as the better option still stays available-I guess that’s my fear, that eventually they will just take the higher quality one off the shelves 😂. Either way great video and I hope it gets lots of views! 🙏😊
The F series is both pick and bump resistant according to Schlage - I know the driver T-pins are responsible for it - could you do a video talking about that?
On the interior knob my schlage georgian doesn't have a press tab, the tab is only on the exterior side (key hole side). But on the interior side it only has a looks like a spot for a flat head screw driver I'm thinking it's to push off the knob? Can you help me buddy?
lol got my lock puzzle lol ha ha to you it is all together and works great! i loved every thing! great info if i ever change my door locks again! Thank you for every thing and all you do!
@@selock you are 100% right i had to stop many times to let the dogs out or just do something else and my hands kept turning grayish and sticky im not sure i left any on the lock lol my dawn dish soap works pretty good! funny part is i would wash my hands and think ill leave it alone for a while and take a break but id sit back down at my desk to watch more yt and i would start looking at the parts again and next thing i knew id be back at it so much for a break lol
