I had the Mk2s back in the late 80s and sold them in the mid 90s when I started getting into recording. I am now wanting to add a set to my gear now and was going to get a pair of used Mk2 to 5s but the ones for sale seem sketchy so I will get the Mk7s. Was going to get the black ones but I think you just sold me on the classic silver! Nice video!
Congrats, Good choice 👍🏻 I love the classic Silver. Still have my MK2s since 86 that I’ll never sell and expecting soon the 50th anniversary MK7L in Green.
I have M3D, with the pitch reset button, the detached cover without hinges, the recessed on/off switch and the hole for a head shell. And I can't get why MK2 is almost everywhere, why is it much more popular than M3D?..
@@vadiquemyself My guess is that because the MK2s were out much longer than the MkD3s. Also the MK2 were so durable and reliable they never stopped working. People just held on to the MK2. I still my first pair or MK2 from 1986. Aside from a few scratches and discoloration the still work perfectly. I plan to keep them all original as long as I can.
@@djciscov1 hmm yeah, your arguments are reasonable. Old buyers already have a pair or more of the long-time-on-market MKIIs and don't need anything new
Ayo just saw your Mk7 planning to buy. How is working out for you bro? I have mk2 and mk5 ...bit old school too..but want to upgrade but it's classic lol I love my Tech..but my buddy want me to go digital but I don't rock parties like in my 90s lol but great video..let me know planning to buy soon for my bday lol
@@ppic7162 the M5Gs were beautiful - i had a pair... but they were awful to mix on. Sold them and got Mk2 1200s. Tempted to get a pair of MK7s mainly because i just want some minty fresh Technics lol - but the sound isolation thing kinda puts me off. They have a plastic bottom section, as apposed to rubber + isolating material found in the GRs.
You are right about the m5g, you do have to babysit the pitch. I am looking at the 1200gr. They are on sale at 1000 each, just because the buttons are like the original 1200
You talked about your scratching not being that good, and I might have a tip. I always swapped hands using my right hand for the cross fader and left hand on vinyl. Gave me so much more dexterity and skill.
Yes, I bought 2 of the 50th limited edition in 3/3/23. 1 of them was defective sn 10344, the tonearm mechanism is loose. It's missing something in the bearing part. Sent the defective unit back to Gibbys ontario. I dont't have a replacement nor a refund. HELLO TECHNICS!
The fact that you are holding that MK7 so easily and bouncing back and forth for the majority of the video tells me the weight difference between them and the older MK5 and prior gens. The extra resonance and flutter are caused by the lack of the weight in the plinth and it is the major difference between the MK7s and the older analog 1200s. I like the how you showcased all the different tables you owned throughout your time DJing. I think a closing line telling the audience whether they should buy a MK7 would be good at the end. Given that you can buy a used MK5 in excellent condition for $600, the $1k cost of a MK7 is hard to justify unless you really need the other features.
While I wouldn't disagree, that weight might make the difference f.e. in terms of resonance (not genrelly but can), I highly disagree that you could see the weight by the way he's holding or shaking the mk7. Because the difference in weight between a mk6 and a mk7 is just around 1.4 kg (3.08lb).
You simply have no idea what you are buying. With old models. You could be buying MK5 with aftermarket parts. Removable RCA is better. But yeah I’m worried about them feeling cheap I hope they are premium.
Hi I need information about the box! Is there a sticker attached to the turntable serial number in the box? or you can know the serial number after opening it and you can't know it first because it is only found on the turntable on the back... in correspondence where there is the reducer for 45 rpm records Thank you
@@FreddyGonzales1986_ you own a part of history It's what made djing what it is today. Well built like a tank, heavy, pitchfader was great and spot on for mixing. Enjoy them (still enjoying mine) 👍🏼
I’ve recently had my 90s, heavily used and gigged MK2s fully stripped down and serviced by a top local guy. They run like new again. Can’t see anything wrong with how MK7s perform but will they love forever like MK2s? MK7s don’t seem much different to the better Super OEMs in look and feel.
i got mines, and loves them MK7’s…$1200 a piece, But definitely loves the Kings’ True Wheels of STEEL🧨🧨⭐️😀, PLX 1000’s kool, But Glad i Treated myself😁#2023
It's pronounced "Mark," not "make." And the feedback is a result of the 1200MK7's not being as well isolated as other models of the 1200s. Personally, I prefer the 1200GRs, but that's just me.
I don't know who the weartesters are but I hope it's a compliment. I taught myself Final Cut Pro video editing and I ended up liking added dumb clips to my already dumb videos. My philosophy is just slamming clips in and not worry about the transitions. Thanks for watching!
I like the MK7 only for the fact that they just brought the 1200 series back but I wouldn’t by any MK7 models. I prefer the MK2 cause build quality and analog control pitches and just too use to the original motor design and feel.
I remember hating the pitch on the M5gs way more than these. The digital pitch doesn't bother me that much. I may have gotten used to it with all the controller now.
I want to get them but, look how light they are.. Why? Just why? They coming today.. Weight concern’s me though, you are holding them like they are Toys… But I can’t wait.
You need better cartridges! I had numark cartridges and i didn't like it. Then i tried ortofon concorde scratch pink. I would say one of the best system. Check it!
The only 2 cons for the mk7 from Technics purists is that the pitch fader is digital or digitally controlled unlike the SL-1200 mk2, mk3d & mk5 which is analog pitch fader 🎚 the pitch is not as accurate as it’s older siblings & the mk7 were made in Malaysia but tested in Japan.
Have had 8 1200 easily always get my money back as long as you buy used I bought a mk7 black new love it the light change etc the cords and why have that tank yes they are pricy but new. I hear they sound better I bought it and haven’t bought needles yet I just look at the stupid turntable and kept my records never sell youre records
@Paris Pinkney, same with me. bought a 2nd & 3rd mkII used, and never prepared myself bringing them to refurbishment, 'cause i spent almost everything for 12"vinyl news/reissues/represses. vinyl records are extremely addictive and hard to get off.
@@abumc5104 i hear it’s making a comeback went to a store the book store can’t recall and huge huge lp collection def worth having a new 1200 these days
@@oscalsochirino8706 nope, the vinyl records always been around, but i quitted buying new ones for almost 20 years. just thinking to open my own café in the near future, so it's not wrong to have some vinyl music past 2000. after the year 2000 there're too many great new productions from dj's, editers and remixers in the club and HOUSE that i like. IMHO, too many must haves. never purchased anything digital so far and no cd's and never will.
I owned MK7s until last year and replaced them with GRs. I continue to use the 1200mk2s dated 1992 because they are more precise and built better. The digital tone makes it impossible to make long mixes without having to correct the tone or manually the cymbal. Tested with 1 GR and 1 MK2, with MK2 there is no need for corrections
Pich fader of the MK7 are more accurate then the mk2! Practise and you see! Extreme Example if you have a Lada car and now a ferrari. What do think what happend. First you say i don't like the ferrari because it's ride to tubulent. So practise and then you see.
I still have my two originals, one silver one black and I am sticking with them. They are like tanks!. Still work perfectly over 20+ years of use. I gave the new ones a spin at the store- they don't seem to be built as well as the older models and they felt "slightly" less responsive. I was hoping to see some modern updates and improvements (to go with the modern inflated price) but I just didn't see any. Not so sure these new models will still be in the game, working after 20 years....
Ok. Mk7 arent trash... but.. for that money. U can Buy some niiice mk2 mk3 mk4 mk5. All analog pitch! The mk5 was the last of the mohecans when comes to analog. But..... mk7 do have one of the coolest looking slipmats. Lol nah jk. Their ok for scratching. If I was in the market... I would just buy mk2 or mk5 as I did last year
Totally agree, but finding good condition used is a problem, then fixing them leaves you with looking for rare parts. If technics would just leave the pitch analogue its a win.
I was looking for the Mk5s before I stumbled on these. I prefer new now that I can afford it. I don't want other people problems anymore if I can help it.(you down with OPP LOL) Buying a used MPC 2000xl wasn't worth it. Looking for all the parts and soldering is hard now for some reason. I remember it being so easy back in the day.
@@moscasucio1686 As much as everyone loved the early analog pitch adjust, it's just not coming back. Even the super OEMs use the digital pitch adjust. That said, the digital pitch on the MK7 and GRs isn't bad, DJs just have to adjust their mixing technique (sorry for the pun).
@@djsubculture2786 times have changed, now its all digital. I agree, but Im lucky I experienced the warmth of vinyl playing in a dance club, CD’d, mp3’s dont give that feeling ever.
@@ppic7162 absolutely love them if youre used to low torque theres a setting great preamps theyre just great, pitch faders digital tho only downside but easy to get used too
IMO these look plastic, cheap. (The way you was throwing it about - good luck doing that with proper 1200s! 😂) Def not worth 1000 bucks… for this price you can buy original 1200’s and probably get a pair of them! Cheers
That is just my cheap camera and bad editing. These boys are on point in person. I feel like they are more grey than the gold-ish tint on the Mk2s. The difference in weight is only about 4-5 pounds. The are very overpriced though.
I can do this with my heavy SL-1700mk2 too but why should I? Not a problem with proper 1200 too, the weight difference isn't that big. I don't think mk7 are overpriced, you have to take into account the inflation too. Mk2s weren't more affordable in 80s. One can buy a Hanpin-made Pioneer or Reloop for lesser money but they have had pretty variable quality. And they aren't a huge amount cheaper anyway. Technics is produced in Panasonic's own factory and is designed from scratch by Panasonic and that is reflecting in price too. Sure, GR is better and I believe mk2 is too but this won't make mk7 inherently a bad turntable. And prices of spare parts for mk2 etc are increasing as they are no longer produced, but there are still demand.
I'm by far not a gatekeeper but thanks for the compliment. But, C'mon, Tomato tomahto. "Techniques" is how everyone I know pronounce it. But I don't mind either way. I wouldn't correct anyone. I don't have the market cornered on the king's English. Or Japanese for that matter, being that Technics is a Japanese brand. See this video from old commercials, they pronounce it both ways. ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-eASjaXv6_0U.html
I shot this whole video in my library slash office by the way. You can have both. Not to mention all of the technical programming books I have for my games. You can play them here www.ppicapps.com
