Mitsubishi Pajero (aka Montero, Shogun) is just about to ride into the sunset as Mitsubishi will stop production of this iconic car in 2021 after 39 years. It's not too late to snap one up though - the question is just, should you? LIKE WHAT YOU SEE? Join us on Patreon at / ownerdrive

Is the Mitsubishi Pajero still a worthwhile new-car purchase? We speak to Andy, who has owned (multiple Mitsubishis, including) a Pajero for the past three years to get his honest insights and recommendations.
Andy drives the top-of-line Pajero Exceed, which includes creature comforts like electronic sunroof, leather seats, and a Rockford Fosgate sound system.

Hey David. Thanks for commenting. We certainly know a couple of happy Pajero Sport owners as well. We also tend to agree that in general the Mitsubishi SUVs are that much more affordable than many of their rivals. Hope to get an owner review on the Pajero Sport soon. Cheers

Regarding the 3rd row squeeze test... to be fair this was the first seven seat SUV in recent memory where my head did not hit the roof thanks to the roomy cabin. What let it down was the limited legroom as the 2nd row seats cannot be slid forward. Good for kids and smaller adults. Cheers, Jono (OwnerDrive)

Hey we reckon it's a solid choice as well. There's a lot of SUVs getting around these days, which would be better left as sedans and hatches we reckon (lower cost, better handling, better room often), but such is the demand for a little extra ride height. You can't blame the car companies for building what people want.

Add a throttle controller which will fix the "lag" problem. Add a Steinbauer to increase power up to 20% for towing and economy. I have a 2013 NW Exceed with 185,000 Klm's and love it.

@@OwnerDrive Hi 👋 I'm from New Zealand and use to have a 2000 Chevy Tahoe but it was packing up so started looking around for another vehicle, did some research and came across the Pajero's, fell in love with the Gen 3,s. My one is the Exceed model. It's only done 121000km. The paint is black and is in very good condition inside and out, motor is in great condition too, I would say this vehicle overall is a 9/10 it still looks new, lucky me the last Owners looked after her.

Did he consider a Prado and if so why did he still choose the Pajero? I am a Pajero owner considering a new car also.
@OwnerDrive
@OwnerDrive 3 года назад
@@Rockbottomsurf Hi Rod. Yes he did. In fact his brother in law bought one around the same time. Ultimately, Andy's past good experiences with Mitsubishi's and around $15000 difference in price made the Pajero a clear choice for him. He was also able to score the top of the range Pajero for significantly less than the base model Prado. Irrespective of price, there is also nothing much he feels he is missing out on versus the Prado. He also said his brother in law has actually had a few issues with his Prado and it has spent significant time in the workshop for repairs under warranty. We hope to get him on as well to talk about his Prado fairly soon, so keep an eye out for that one. Would love to hear your thoughts as well.
@Rockbottomsurf
@Rockbottomsurf 3 года назад
@@OwnerDrive I will definitely look out for his brother-in-law’s thoughts on his car vs the Pajero, that would be a niche RU-vid video no one else has done (other than paid reviewers). It would be great to know if the Prado is quieter even with off road tyres, if the DPF on both vehicles has been reliable and if the extra money is worth it for the Prado having extra safety gizmos? I might even add does the 3rd row of seats in the Prado take up too much room seeing as the can’t be removed easily like the Pajero? If they have the Kakadu, is the air suspension worth the big bucks? Sorry for all the questions but that’s what people want to know and paid reviewers fear to go there. Cheers.

I bought a Pajero 2019 model and was tossing up with the Prado. I can tell you in terms of value for money the Pajero kills it. Huge space, comfortable tourer, great off road and incredibly reliable. My only pet hate is the monocoque chassis, almost zero articulation off road. Other than that, exceptional car!
@OwnerDrive
@OwnerDrive 2 года назад
Hi J Van. You certainly do pay a good deal more for an equivalent Prado. The Pajero is a good value for money proposition. Agreed , the Prado probably edges out the Pajero off road, but some suspension mods can help level the playing field. Thanks for stopping in and glad to hear you are happy with the Pajero.
