Should You Buy The Zipwall Dust Wall System?

The Zipwall dust wall system is a hardware kit you can purchase which allows you to quickly enclose a work area with plastic sheeting. The Zipwall poles are spring loaded and they have clever clips to secure the top of a plastic sheet to the pole. You clip in the plastic sheeting, jamb the pole up against the ceiling, and the plastic is held in place. The size of the enclosure is only limited by the number of poles and length of your plastic sheeting. For those who must follow the EPA RRP (Renovation, Repair and Painting) lead paint law, the Zipwall system can be very handy, and contractors or busy DIY workers may benefit too. However the cost is nothing to sneeze at! Watch the video and see if the system is for you...

I've recently started using the zipwall system (i do kitchen remodeling) and although it is expensive i feel like i get my moneys worth going to a new job site almost every week and being able to quickly section off the area i need within minutes and have it look very professional. its definitely not for everyone if your only going to use it a few times a year probably not worth investing in it but if you use it 40-50 times a year its worth every penny.

Agreed. For a pro it's well worth it. There are times I'll throw it up as a barrier when I would not have done so before it existed.

I used these for years and then found the Trimaco heavy duty dust containment poles. Much easier to use with the foot pump. Yes,they are pricey.

Just get the fastcap third hand poles. It is more multipurposed.

Yeah, that product is designed to be able to handle a little bit of weight, unlike the Zipwall. It's actually a little bit more money too.

Thanks John. Dexter Morgan could have used these. You familiar with the Showtime series "Dexter" :)

Like the video but you kinda lost me talking about the cost than again I'm in the business and use them all the time. For me it's a time is money thing. If I'm working with other old bulky twist/crank poles or purchasing strapping everytime to cut down it just doesn't make sense and those systems take way too long to set up. Also I'm already tall (over 6ft) but in those other methods I would need a ladder and in the strapping method also a skill saw, stapler and staples, and a tapes measure plus whatever was needed to secure the plastic tight to the floor so the dust wouldn't escape. I recently did a job for a friend. He had critters in the attic and they moved around his blown in insulation enough that his plaster ceiling started chip off the paint during the cold winter months. Small area 16x16 type of area affected but in the middle of his open concept main floor living room with finished hardwood floors throughout. Took me maby 10 min to move a chair and table and set up my Dexter poly 4x4 room. I threw a drop cloth in the middle to receive the paint chips and for the ladder when I skimmed. When sanding happened I released tension just enough to have my shop vac hose sneak in through the bottom collecting dust out of that space and let it run a few min after. Took it all down, rolled up that drop cloth and then went on to paint. For anyone in the business I would strongly recommend zip wall. It's prob one of my top 5 purchases that save me time and address customers consearns like dust or traffic through finished areas. Albert floorotex is another favorite. Not needed for that task though

Well, I have viewers who are DIY and who are pros, so cost is a factor to some. It also is a matter of what kind of work you do. A pro who does handyman repairs may find the cost of zipwall trivial because it allows him to get in and out quickly with minimal fuss. A pro who does kitchen remodels may not find zipwall worth the money because he will be at the jobsite for two months anyway and he prefers a more permanent installation with bottom sealing. Back in the day before zipwall I used cheap strapping which I would cut long and wedge into place to make plastic curtains. It actually went up quickly and the strapping was cheap. I also think it's fair criticism that zipwall is overpriced for what it is. Currently it's about $160 to buy four springy poles with plastic heads. The Harbor Freight version, which is not quite as nice, is less than half of that. So, I just try to mention all the aspects of a product so viewers can decide. I use zipwall on many of my interior projects, but there are still instances where a semi-permanent plastic wall makes more sense.

@@enduringcharm yeah I see what you are saying and respect the video and response. And I agree with you that the price for the manufactured product you get is higher than it should be but for me and my needs it has been a great investment. Alot of my business is working with general contractors doing their finishing (paint, drywall taping/skimming, finishing/refinishing wood floors and stairs). So in my case I have always seen the value weather I am using them as a dist barrier or setting up a spray booth on an active jobsite.

The price is so worth it, I use it everyday. I totally disagree with you regarding price.

It just depends on what you are doing. If you are doing remodeling which allows for easy partitioning these can work well and be worth the price. Others may not be able to partition easily or may have only one or two projects which could work with these.

Way over priced for plastic! You could do the same With poles you have in the truck with wood blocks

They are expensive, even more today than when I bought them. Back in the day I would cut wood strapping slightly longer than the ceiling height and bend them in place with a top plate to hold the plastic. But, wood is expensive too. For a pro, these can make sense but for a homeowner DIY they may not.

The red plates are cheap plastic they break so easily and very expensive
@enduringcharm
@enduringcharm 4 года назад
I haven't had one break on me yet, although the little "tethers" have snapped off. The system is handy, but I do think they overcharge for what it is.

@@enduringcharm on Amazon each plate cost $22 I need 8 plates, I don't really want to spend $176 on something that is going to break again, the poles are nice , where can I get the plates for a better price
@enduringcharm
@enduringcharm 4 года назад
That's insane. The do sell just the plastic red half in a 12 pack on their website for $90. Still nuts. You could try the harbor freight version and get the whole thing for $15.
