I did the same to my HD 6870 today. Cleaned out all the debris and changed the thermal paste. BEFORE: 105+ C during games, noise like a jet engine under the smallest load, choppiness/freezing in games AFTER: 80-85 C during games, VERY quiet even during gameplay, runs fine now and actually gained a few frames I'd highly recommend it if you've had your card for a while and never cleaned it. It was super easy and made a massive difference.
Good video. I also find that when cleaning the fins and tighter spots varying sizes of clean paint brushes work great. Most of the time I don't need to use any compressed air.
Great video. If you ever do anything like this again it would be nice to see the thermals as well. I mean obviously there will be an improvement but it is always interesting to see how much.
Just clean your stuff every now and then, might not make it work better but will make it last longer if there is no dust and gunk clogging up the fan and heatsink and new thermal paste every now and then is a must as thermal paste dries out eventually, especially on GPUs.
shouldn't rub the thermal paste with your fingers, oils can interfere with curing as well as cooling performance, use a credit card or a small drop in the center and the pressure will spread out when the heat sink presses on it. That being said, if it still runs cool who cares lol
+bannerbomb1 Totally just to troll Tech Yes City. I actually cleaned it off and applied like I normally do, but I did it off camera and with the speed up footage you can't see the edit.
+Tech YES City this youtuber is very nice (TimmyTechTV) removed 2 of my COMMENTS, you said in one of your videos to sub to him The $385 OVERWATCH GAMING PC, i watch all your videos tech yes and love them but the thing here is # that i was not rude in any way only saying that the title was not right and he did not show how to clean it out . i know how to clean all my parts but sum people do not know how to clean it all out and by TimmyTechTV putting the title as how to clean out your video card is not right and not going to help any one .in my last comment i called TimmyTechTV a cock and i still think he is . i have my own youtube channel i never remove comments only if sum one is being very rude or spam and i only called him a cock .so my point tech yes is have a word with this one i will not be watching any more of he videos .NOT one time have put a comment on your video tech yes because you are the man and love your videos. but my first comment on TimmyTechTV gets remove all because i am right unsub from TimmyTechTV fake fake fake from MaD_Animal TGN Partner i had to comment this my mob profile becuase i think he as banned me for fuck all
No worries, thanks for the compliments, but your comment might of been put in for review? I know some peoples comments on my channel just go through this weird spam filter...? I doubt timmy would remove constructive criticism?
would just blowing the dust out of it (without taking the cooler off) have good results? from my understanding, newer GPUs will perform better (due to the way GPU boost works, which is directly related to temperature)
+Daan Suurmeijer you are correct (although I believe it is more humidity that spit). I was thinking blowing air using compressed air (can, or compressor)
+MS4E No you don't have to remove the cooler unless your graphics card is very old and needs new thermal paste. If you are just cleaning out the dust then as mentioned above use a can of compressed air not your own breath and you will be fine.
I love this I have a machine with two graphics cards installed one is discrete the other is hidden inside the processor of my machine but I cannot access this hidden one as there is a piece of something blocking access to this one which is just below the PSU.
+MasteerCheef Unfortunately VRM temps are actually important. Most VRMs are rated at 105c, However it's obviously not good to run them at that temperature. They can certainly overload and fry themselves. The same applies for VRAM.
Total pc noob here How would I clean a Nvidia Quadro M2000 in my laptop without breaking everything in the process? Keep in mind I've never taken apart any computers and I won't know how to put it back together. I want to clean it due to "your gpu has stopped responding and has recovered" issue. I can play games like Fallout 4 on full setting at about 50-75 fps. But lately it's just been crashing after a few minutes due to this error. I tried lots of solutions like increasing the Trd value to 8 and reinstalling the driver but those didn't make a bit of difference. Hopefully you can help!
I am speechless to see such small difference! After I clean my pc every 2 months I ca see a speed boost maybe because of the processor. Can you do another video where you clean all of the components, not just the video card?
Sypher Gaming Network I like what he makes. He's a friendly guy and a consistent uploader. Not every creator on RU-vid has same style. Gotta appreciate all types and Tim is the man.
Regardless Tim That card back in the day was a beast and still is a good 30-60FPS gamer at 1080p it seems. Slight Overclock and it would handle anything out there at the moment with the exception of Crysis 3 im afraid . ANYHOW NICE RIG!!!!!!!
Yeah, so cleaning did almost nothing to the FPS and scores, but the REAL test after cleaning a card and reapplying thermal paste is TEMPS. But you did not showcase that. That's what we would want to see. Was there any temp difference? I have a R9 290 here that is thermal throttling at 94 degree cutting my performance and eliminating my ability to OC. I'm thinking I still have about 1 year left on the warranty, so maybe I should send it in to MSI to have them fix the issue. I don't know if it is a common issue with the MSI Gaming R9 290 or if I am just unlucky. Oh and it's clean, so I know that's not the issue.
I always clean my video card. It doesn't take long till the tim on the gpu gets hard itself and the thermal pads also deteriorate. Dell did use a nice cold plate on these cards Apple too.
Dude please put results before and after in the same table. When u wanna compare u put results side by side. Y U separated them i have no idea. Good Vid tho
+Juan Enrique Honestly, depends on what you're doing. For gaming... not really, but depends on the game. Plays Overwatch at 1080p on high alright for example, but stuff like Metro Last Light is pretty much unplayable at 1080p.
+TimmyTechTV thanks for the reply. but sir have you tried playing gta v or nba2k16 with this card ? and my friend offered me this card for $60 should i take it?
