Hey Sai! Hope you're well! If Cybersecurity is the path you're on, and the area you want to work in.. then i'd suggest you learn the CCNA content but don't bother taking the certification exam. Hope that helps 😊

Heyy I am Dyavanapelli Sujal , currently pursuing my engineering in computer science . I am in 2nd year of my graduation . I have got a strong foundation of networking and linux but I haven't done any certifications though . As a second year engineering student should I need to get my certification to get a internship as a network engineer or system administrator?? Or do the certification after my graduation.
@gerardobrien

Hey there, for an internship... the CCNA cert would definitely help but not completely necessary. If you have a strong network background and a CCNA cert... you could probably skip an internship and go straight to a network engineer role. Best of luck!!

hey i came across ur video looking for this answer lol; i am doing IR/CSIRT as a 3 YOE working as cyber security consultant at a big4 straight out of college. i be honest my networking is bunch of bullshit/weak and I focus as a SIEM engineer I guess for clients? My question is: Do u recommend studying for CCNA to get a strong , generic network foundation for cybersecurity BUT do not take the exam? Or if u know a better resource to undersatnd networking at a deeper level. I have 0 intent to actually buy the cert because it just seems too stressful for me lol. I would like a deeper network foundation than the basics of what Network+ teaches I guess. thanks mate
@gerardobrien
@gerardobrien 5 месяцев назад
Hey Mike! Really depends on what you want to do long term... CCNA will teach you allot of low level things (configuring routing, acl's, vlan switching etc etc) things you wouldn't really do if you are working in Cybersecurity/SOC/SIEM role. By all means learn the CCNA content if you want a deeper understanding of networking, but if your doing it to advance your career in the Cyber world you might be better off focusing on something like Security+. Drop me a message on LinkedIn if you want to connect.

If people are saying that the CCNA route isn't particularly worth going into, are there any different platforms/skillsets that they recommend someone to explore that is not Cisco related but requires about the same level of effort and brainpower as getting a CCNA/CCNP?
@gerardobrien
@gerardobrien Месяц назад
If you're going down the network route to become a network engineer then Cisco CCNA/CCNP is definitely worth it! If you're looking for other certs worth doing, go search for senior network engineer jobs and make a list of the requirements... Find around 20 jobs and you soon find what the market is looking for 👍

Hey thanks for the insight! I'm studying for my CCNA but was browsing Cisco U and see that there are multiple flavors of the CCNP certification (Service Provider, Enterprise, Security, Data Center, Collaboration etc). If you were in a position to do it all over again, is there one of those in particular that you would shoot for? Edit: With that said, I don't think I want to go the "Service Provider" route because I've already been in the Telecom world and it is stressful, I'm really trying to do something else. I'd also love to work remote (from home) so if that rules out the "Data Center", then I'm narrowing it down lol. But I'm open to any and all suggestions!

Hey, Hope you're doing well! I've been following your RU-vid channel and LinkedIn posts, and I'm really impressed by your knowledge in cybersecurity. I'm thinking of switching careers to cybersecurity, even though I don't have any IT experience. It feels like a big step, but I'm excited to learn and grow in this field. I was hoping you could give me some advice on how to get started. What should I focus on learning first? Any beginner-friendly resources you'd recommend? as Cisco recemtly launched CCST as well . do i need to go with CCNA or CCST ? Your insights would mean a lot to me as I take this leap into the world of cybersecurity. Thanks a bunch, Muhammad.

There’s a lot of ai developers telling the world most white collar jobs will be automated in the next five years. Do I begin this journey today if in three years when I’ve cut my teeth on help desk, and am ready to start my first Network Engineer job, I find most elements aside from setting up the hardware have been automated. A lot of effort to put in the evenings after working at my current job for potentially no gain. Do people in the field talk about what’s coming with ai? In all seriousness wouldn’t be more beneficial to train to be an electrician in this day and age?
@gerardobrien
@gerardobrien 2 месяца назад
Basically every tool I've worked on has an some sort of AI thing going on so yea AI tech is massive right now! Everyone said something similar though when Cloud first came about... "don't study anything on prem as everything is moving to the cloud" ... i honestly think the skills are all transferable. No matter what you do in terms of cloud, AI etc... your still gonna need some sort of internet/network to access it... so in my mind networking is always gonna be a key skill to know. Also IT is not something you just learn and then get a job... the field is evolving day by day, you could learn how to build something today... and in a year its different/improved. Its literally a journey of never ending learning!

Lol! Those job ads that mention CCNA, CCNP or CCIE in the same paragraph as required are crazy! Which do they want? As a corporate network veteran of 10 years you have to question whether these HR departments or the recruiting manager have literally ANY idea about either the candidate they want or the job requirements - because there is a HUGE gulf in knowledge and experience between someone at CCNA level to a CCIE certified person. The latter being the knowledge backbone of a highly complex corporate network support team, or an architect. Seriously, you would never appoint a CCNA to a level 3 job unless they had vast equivalent PROVEN experience to a CCIE, and you would have to question why a CCIE would want an entry level CCNA or even CCNP role. This sort of job spec nonsense makes me laugh and despair in equal measures! 🤦
