I love my fizz I have 300 micro locs. This is my third set of locks first two were traditional locks. I pay less than 20 dollars to get my roots interlocked..... Why because I live in Ghana and it's wayyyyyyy cheaper here
Thanks soo much for this! I was indecisive bc I was worried I wouldnt be able to maintain my hair while there for an extended stay. Where are you located?
I'm starting locs now, but my go to as a reg. natural was twists. I'd rather have a permanent twist-like style that I maintain rather than having to completely undo, de-tangle, section off, wash, and dry, re-section, and redo all those twists again every other week. I felt like I was pulling out so much hair, and missing even one wash period was guaranteed to add another hour or two onto the next one. Then having to worry about loose hair styles with the weather or when I worked out? Forget it.
I'm seriously contemplating locs and this vid was super informative. I will add it to my research! Lol! I'm convinced that micro locs are right for me, but I need to understand care and maintenance as well. Thank you both for taking the time to share both pros and cons.
I have sisterlocks. My reti takes no more than 3hours every 8-10 weeks. If I self reti, I can complete my entire head of 400 locks on a4 point rotation in about 9 hours.
Versatility was very important to me! I loved switching up my hair a lot when I was loose natural. Ironically, I wear the same styles a lot now that I’m loc’d. Lol. Great video y’all!
I'm planning on starting my locs next month with the two-strand twists. I actually like the look of the twist and I'm going to do the 2 point rotation because I think it will help keep the "spiral" look rather than the "smooth straw" type of look. I just like the texture of it. It's interesting though how someone's con can be another's person pro lol.
I am a few weeks into my loc journey... I have thick hair & first planned to start my locs with braid locs but changed my min and did them over into two strand twist... I played with the interloc tool the other day and I am loving the way my hair looks. What I DO know about is at any point I don’t want locs anymore I will big chop my hair again.... there is NO way i will have the patience to sit and unloc my hair... This was a GREAT video. Thank you both for taking the time to share your thoughts about the different processes. It is SO helpful to have videos to watch and learn from. (Your floors & home is beautiful!)
Heyy, I just started microlocs last year and my hair looks exactly like yours! I also started with two-strand twists and now interloc. Love your locs they are super cute! new subbie
Wow! Naturally beautiful, freckles and a beautiful gap! You are definitely a triple threat my dear! I really enjoyed your video and your energy! Oh yes and the hairstyle is beautiful!
Found this really interesting as I started with comb coils & retwisting but then switched to interlocking. Can defo see pros and cons to both. I loveee micro locs but didn’t think my texture could handle it. Thanks for sharing both x
Love your locs! I had sisterlocks for 10yrs, then did a big chop. Its been a few years now & I think I have had my fill of experimenting with my natural & ready to go back to locs. I don't want sisterlocs again b/c I don't want that expense & the time to get it done again. I think I would like to start mine with two-strand as well.
I am on my second set of traditional locs. My hair locs fast. I've wanted sister locs, yet saw it was a cheaper version with the same look. (Micro locs) I currently get maintenance every 4 months when my stylist is available. Yet my styles last about 1-1.5 months. I'm definitely 4c. I'll have someone else do my maintenance. I just want to make sure I'm making the right choice. I need something that's a little more friendly on my scalp due to migraines.
I really like how you two recorded this video 😁! It’s genius really! My sister and I might have to try this format, lol 😂! She has microlocs and I plan on getting thicker locs soon🤗! Watching all that I can to prepare 🙏🏿! Both of y’all locs are gorgeous 😍! Thanks for sharing 💜!
You are so cute! You had me laughing. Your locs are bomb. I have 176 or so locs and people keep asking me if I have sister locs. I just laugh and say no.
I love watching these even tho i am just on the mini twists stage, i haven’t made them permanent, but they are my favorite hair style i even like taking the weekend to install them...but i take them out after a month or 6 weeks. Maybe one day!
Michelle Rodgers thats why i love starting locs with twists. You can enjoy the beginning stages and you dont have to commit since mini twists can easily be taken down after a few weeks!
I have traditionally locs medium size.. my locs are a 3c soo one step size up from the micro locs. I like more of the bohemian look unruly locs of different sizes and adding beads. It’s true it does get heavy but I can still do a high ponytail. I switch between palm rolling and interlocking sometimes depending on how I’m feeling
This video was soooooo helpful!! Thanks for the info! I’m really want Sisterlocks I did a big chop a year ago and I have 6inches of hair. I’m starting my journey next month. I can’t wait. Your locs are gorgeous!!
I am doing the mini braid loc method...I had whiplash so I can't manage heaviness anymore. I think all locs are beautiful but I love mini or small locs.
I have large microlocs started with two strand twists that I maintain with palm rolling. So honestly I’m in between the two (~160 locs). Some people would call mine small traditional locs however. But I relate to both sides of each. Larger microlocs can be started in a multitude of ways like traditional locs. I’ve seen them started with comb coils. Not to mention frizz is no stranger to either haha.
I just installed mine last night and I was PUSHING for these high numbers I see everyone has but i ended up with 168. I felt like failure but to me they look like microlocs. I feel better seeing this. Thank you. They’re a mix of smaller and smallest. lol. Thank you 😊.
I had over 200 but combined mine. Now I have 186. My ends are curly too and I like it that way. I call them microlocs but some people call them sister locs but I did them myself 😂 palm rolling
My twists unravels, so I choose braid locs, though it takes longer to form I don't mind. I love fluffy hair, I have 4c hair...I keep commenting but I just love the vid
Great video ladies! Thanks for sharing. Your hairstyle is so cute can we get a video on this look? I can see how to do the front but i dont know what the back looks like. I also need that headband. LOL!
I have thin traditional locs and I retwist about every month. As I do the palm roll, I gather two locs and curl them on pipe cleaners. I leave them curled for a day and the less I do with them, the longer they last.
My son has traditional locs and the re-twisting was no good for him. They constantly came unraveled. I switched to interlocking and it's so much better. Yes, it takes some time for him also. But I plan to micro locs mine starting tomorrow. I'll be interlocking. The maintenance doesn't bother me at all.
Thank you 🙏🏾 I was wondering if I can start with 2 strands then venture into interlocking. Yours are beautiful so I’m confident they will turn out looking good. How long did you wait before starting to interlock?
Thank you for this video! I have small traditional locs, started with two strand twists, maintained with interlocking. No grid, as with micros and sister locs, but everyone thinks they are sisterlocs lol
@@rebeccarambo2893 my locs are smaller than a number 2 pencil, but larger than sister locs, kind in the middle of the two, but large enough to palm roll
I am sitting and combing out my traditional locs because it is so hard to deal with. Your friend is so right about traditional locs. I am hoping to do microlocs.
I just installed micro locs today...I have 225 it took me 2 days ...and my son has 36 locs as well ....he's had them for 2 years he is my inspiration for getting them.... I love your videos. Question... is it necessary to braid and band with micro locs?
Deanna Wheeler awesome! Welcome to the loc community 🖤. I did not braid and band bc the coils at the end of my hair kept the twists together. But if you have a softer hair texture or a looser curl, then it may help reduce unravelling if you braid and band. I would say do a test wash and if a bunch unravel then you know that you have to braid and band!
I have traditional locs I started with 2 strand twist and interlock the roots. I switch between interlock and retwist I have 78 locs and it takes me forever because I always take breaks or get distracted while doing my hair 😂 I couldn’t imagine have 150+ locs it’d take me a week to do interlock or retwist 😬
I do not know how you do not combine or pull hairs from the next lock when you do are re-tightening the back of your head. Your parts are so so beautiful!
@@NapsAreTheNewBlack You have given me new motivation for self re-tight😁! I am almost finished doing it myself this time., Your hair is the most beautiful hair on planet earth! And you are so beautiful and a brainiac too!
Why wen ppl do these videos it’s always one extreme to the other? Micro locs vs super thick locs... never traditional/pencil size. I don’t think ppl are really conflicted about small sister locs or micro locs vs super thick locs when they’re deciding.
Somebody plz respond I’m getting microlocs in 2 weeks from a loctisian. My question is I have a High top afro(sides and lower back of my head are faded) How many locs would I be able to get? I want over 100 is that possible if I have a high top afro? My Afro is pretty thick. Thanks 🙏
I feel like a failure no grid self started micro locs I only have about 255 I feel like they should be smaller but I also feel like I have thinner strands of hair in certain spots although my hair is thick otherwise I don’t want to look like a lion
Sooooo helpful I just started my fine menopausal thin traditional coil locs I believe microloc maybe abetter fit I’m seeing a local professional This video answered all of my questions except 1 ??? Does thin or thickness of your hair determines which style is a pro?? Also starting length? Thanks I’ve subscribed & will look forward to more of your knowledge thanks
Starting length tends to not matter since shrinkage causes most peoples hair to sit well above shoulder length (unless you start with butt length hair). Your hair thickness with determine your loc thickness. However, I have noticed people with thinner hair who have more locs give the illusion of having fuller hair more so than those who have larger parts, but fine locs.
I love both of your loc styles ladies. 💓 The only thing stopping me from doing mine is how scared I am of thinning at the root from interlocking. I've seen so many people with thinned out roots and I just really wish there was a easier way to maintain microlocs or at least what the secret is to prevent that. 😪 I got my interlocking tool but ugh just don't know what it is they are doing differently from the people I see with full hair. These are from people 1-10yr loc journey's.
I think that interlocking too often can cause thinning at the root since it causes tension on the scalp. That is another reason I stretch my retightening sessions 10 weeks and beyond. I have noticed that my edges are actually filling in more now that I have started my locs!
So do you use a back mirror when you retire? I love that rope twist idea because they probably don't unravel as much. But then how long it takes for the pattern to go away. I also noticed yours aren't frizzy. I do think the method you mentioned about steaming with oils helps alot. I love all of your information. Can you please tell me your grid pattern?
Waleska G nope, for some reason they just seem darker than my loose natural hair was. I have been considering it for my lint problem, but idk yet. Still on the fence 😩
nope not at all! your can retwist, they just don't last as long and still take a long time to do with more locs. So retwisting microlocs would be a larger time investment overall.
I have mini locs with traditional upkeep. So I get the best of both worlds. I retwist once a month. Wash every two weeks. My hair is beautiful. It get mistaken for micro locs all the time lol I have 180 locs. And I don't use many products in my locs and I don't have product build up. I don't struggle with friz and I've never went through the ugly phase. I think the girl with traditional locs is too new to break down cons and pros because i don't relate to her at all lol
@@niny365 there's multiple ways to upkeep locs. Traditional upkeep is just palm rolling. This takes about 30 minutes to an hour depending how focused I am. Once it took me 1hr and 30. Then I blow dry. I started my locs with coils.
The lady doing traditional locs is not selling the traditional side well. I literally just installed traditional locs last night and had I watched this before yesterday I would have gone for the micro locs
