I’m only 6 months in. My only regret so far is that I started 6 months ago and not 6 years ago. To be honest I needed that time to let go of the myth of the loose natural life.
You so cute!! As you said it’s a journey of learning and unlearning!! Lint is my top regret too in my locs, not moisturizing my hair or being interested in keep her neat and well groomed, but my motto is Ive never seen a lion brushing his hair lol! I’m a lioness and I’m out here living life so I’m not worried about looking neat for society!!
This was not necessarily my experience. I still had a good amount of bunching, but it smoothes out over time and palmrolling the fat portions helps alot
My biggest loc regret is combing out my first set. I had a ton of lint but I think I could have saved it or dyed it. My hair would be down my back now! (I have a length obsession, working on myself 😅). My next regret is making my microlocs smaller. My very first set of microlocs were around 200. I really had this certain number and "look" in my head so I went through and split my starter twists to make them smaller. Now I wish I had that larger size. The more locs you have, the more maintenance! And I got over that real quick lol.
Yeah sometimes it is hard to appreciate what we have because we are chasing some ideal look (I also have a length obsession smh). All you can do is move forward and love your current set for what it is (and next time def just dye the lint haha).
Thank you for this comment bc I’ve been thinking about going in and splitting them but Ik that’s just me having this certain bc of other peoples microlocs. I have 277 and I think that’s more than enough 😭I love this look Idky I was trippin
I’m soooo guilty of wanting perfect parts😩 and I seriously have lint in my locs from the beginning of my journey as well😔 your locs look beautiful, girl! Thanks so much for this video ❤️❤️❤️
You are so gorgeous and you are so genuine. I love your energy. I enjoy watching your journey. I cannot wait for 3 years. Today is my 1 year locaversary!!!!! I just realized that as I typed this to you.
Sis, this was so informative. Thank you. Your locs look great. I know you don't know me, hut, I just want to say good luck with med school and you go girl! 😉.
Can’t wait to start my loc journey!! I’m trying to decide the size I want to do them now. If possible, can you make a video demonstrating how you keep moisture in your locs & what works for you because I notice certain people use aloe, oils, & water in a spray bottle daily. I’m still trying to figure that out because I suck at keeping a routine for my hair & I’m fully natural now.
lol, I'm not sure why, but I have always preferred darker features (hair, eyes, skin) on me. I gave lighter hair a chance and I like it, but I loved my black hair 🖤
My biggest loc regret is using a specific brand of hair dye. I didn't learn about its detrimental effects until after I had already used it. I was covering my gray hairs, and that dye is what I believe led to me experiencing breakage YEARS later.
Yep breakage doesnt show for a while, bleach got my loose natural hair 6-12 months after using it. Have you since found a dye that is less harsh on your hair?
@@NapsAreTheNewBlack No, due to other allergies, I haven't found anything I'm willing to try. I have just come to the realization that the universe is telling me it's time to accept my graying hair. 🤷🏾♀️ Since I'm almost 50, maybe they'll help me finally look my age. 🤣
Hey Lady! Good to see you. Thanks for sharing your regrets. I'm 11 months in now and wow has it been a ride! A little bumpy at times. I'm experiencing a few loc regrets of my own at this time. However, I am really trying to trust the process and not let negativity come in. I have had a love/hate relationship with my hair for 45 years... until I locd my hair October 10, 2021. I was sooo happy when I started out. Now I'm going through the shrinking and bunching stage and to say its an uncomfortable stage is an understatement. But I see my loc family members who are two, three, four, and five years in with these gorgeous locs, I know I gotta show my locs loving touches and throughts. So I smile and speak to each one of my 197 babies when I interlock and express gratefulness to this journey. Definitely learning a lot about self love and self acceptance. Best wishes to you as you gear up for your next year of medical school. 😍😀👍🏻
Dont speak your breakage into existence bc your hair looks very healthy and even from root to tip. So if you haven't had any damage yet you might not have any troubles. You have a beautiful thick healthy head of hair. I wish mine was that thick. Much luck to you on your journey.
New subscriber here ! First of all you are absolutely stunning and have such a unique look … love it ! Now, I really love the that colour on you, it’s so complementary with your complexion but equally I know exactly what you mean about black hair too … its just right and matches with every colour in your wardrobe! 😆 I’m 13 months in micro loc’d and been tempted to colour mines but I know I’ll regret it a week later ! My biggest regrets about my sister locs is not realising the importance of getting the parting/sectioning right the first time ( yes I’m a DIY’er )! The interlocking gets difficult to do in certain parts and is a bit of disaster because of my lack of diligence in the first place ! 😩 Still love them and I still press on. ! Good luck with your journey beautiful lady x
thank you so much! and I never thought about interlocking being more difficult in areas where the parting isnt grid-like. Thanks for sharing that, I learned something today 😊
Maybe the reason it isn’t pillow soft anymore is because your locs are truly maturing. as they get more mature they harden no? everybody goes through those neglectful periods but i doubt it would cause such long lasting damage
Peace Queen, I am a Professional Stylist & I must say your color is PERFECT on you it goes so well with your complexion tone & it brings your eyes 👀 out. You are beautiful so any color would look great. Blessings 😊
Great video ☺️! I just reached a year loc’d a few days ago🤗🥳! I have traditional size locs but I love your channel ❤️! My loc regrets is not starting my locs with coils instead of interlocking. Because I want really thick locs and now I have to wait longer for my hair to grow out some more, but it’s very promising so far! And starting to look like exactly how I want. Thank you for sharing this video 🥰!
I love your locs. You were definitely a favorite but as I continue to look at the variety of locs, I find them all to be beautiful! I saw a girl on RU-vid ( I need to find her) whose locs were extraordinarily beautiful because of the different shapes and sizes. It was at that point that I decided to allow my locs (10mos in) to do what they do naturally without any manipulation. I don't want to palm roll to smooth them out or go so much for uniformity. It really is an individual thing. I say this to say, unless you know exactly the look you're going for, remain open and see where the journey takes you. Just listen to your hair, take care of it and be amazed by what it does naturally which is what makes us all unique! We're all beautiful and so is our hair...let's grow!!!
I’m 2 years and 4 months in and except for the colouring, all the other regrets resonated within me. Hopefully, our hair and scalp forgive us and we won’t have long term effects.
I was just saying to myself I love the brown on you and how it compliments your skin color and eyes. I've always wanted to dye my hair but I'm so scared of damage. I don't know if I'm regretting not taking the plunge and dye it or the thought of damage itself.
Thank you! I definitely like the brown, but in retrospect, I regret putting my hair through the coloring process and gambling with its health for a color that I don't prefer over black.
Your hair is beautiful! I have the lint issue and the retie to often.. so I put myself on a schedule. And I need to moisturize more and do the steam treatments. I wanted to color my hair but my hair is thin so I know that is now a good Idea however I will be going black because I feel like that will help hid this lint.
It's humans to have regrets, as long as there's no permanent damage, it's all good. For some, regrets it's due to situation out of our control. We should all just try as much as possible to be conscious of our actions. The e brown locs look good ,but whatever the case maybe, do you. Lol
I understand the color thing. I wanted to to dye my hair brown before starting my locs and the day of I changed my mind. My last set of locs I had bleached and did so many other dyes prior and during my loc journey… felt like my hair suffered from it and I didn’t wanna do that again😭
My loc regrets not going bigger I have about 350 I wish I now had 200-300. Also, because of the texture of my curls I regret not starting with interlocs because I have a lot of bunching. Thankfully my loctician works on correcting the bunching on different locs each appointment. Also, I have always worn a satin cap and have a satin pillowcase and I still have locs with lint 😬. I’m going to convince my loctician to add lint dying to her services.
Thank you so much for this video. I regret not having made some deeper research before having to retighten my own sisterlocks. I made very silly mistakes.
Top regrets: Braiding my hair to sleep up “ugly” phase Dying hair with chemical dyes from the roots- hair thinning is real and it’s not looking like it will fully repair. HUGE HUGE REGRET Long stretches between retis! 6 weeks is my max. Loving my hair from beginning due to comparison.
I LOVE your videos, they're always so informative!! Thank you!! ... This may sound like a crazy question, but...Are locs supposed to be soft? I thought that they naturally become rougher in texture as they mature?!? However, I could be wrong, I'm new to the mircoloc world 🙃💕💕💖💖
They do get firmer over time, but they can remain soft to the touch as long as the hair that is at the surface of the loc is still soft. so they can be firm and soft, instead of firm and wirey/rough/scratchy
I'm going to do this, but I want to take special care of my unloc'd hair for a few months first because I have neglected the hell out of my hair and I have some thinning that I want to work on first before I commit. I'm gray, and just want it to look as full and healthy as possible going in.🥰
Thanks for the tips. I'm 8 months in and started off retightening much too tight. I would have a headache for a week and my scalp would be sore. I stopped doing it after the 2nd retie.
Hello dear, your hair inspires me to keep moving. I'm just starting mine but it's 145 locs. I don't know if the numbers really matters because yours is way fuller. Thinking of a re-do or what do you think since uve been into this long enough 🤔
if you are just starting out, i would suggest sticking with your current set. It will fill out with time. I would only change your set if you decide you want smaller or larger locs. Fullness can be achieved with either small or large locs however.
I’ve been following you from the beginning of your journey and your hair and you look beautiful. Did you decide to keep retesting or go back to reties?
Thank you for sharing. I want to dye my hair the same color as yours. I watched your previous video. What kind of hair protection do you use at night? what do you use to moisturize? what kind of brush do you use?
She has to do what she likes best but I agree that the black looks best because of the contrast. The brown doesn't add anything; it looks dull but her hair is so healthy and beautiful as is she that she can get away with it. But, yeah...the black pops!
I have regular locs but I really want to comb them out because they’re damaged and I have bad lint build up and I want micro locs. But I read that this was damn near permanent and I am hesitant 😟
I sooooooooo appreciate this video. I am thinking about installing mini mini twist. Right now I have mini twist and I’m taking them down to retwist and I’m honestly tired of the constant takedown and retwist. It’s time to go ahead and do the interlock instead of take down and retwist. I have a question for you though. My minitwist loves loves loves when I daily smooth in my Paul Mitchell “The Conditioner” (leave in conditioner) on the ends of my hair. My curls pop pop pop and look so pretty and curly and soft. I kinda don’t like the boring ends that locs usually give so I opt to add so cute and curly pop in ends. Is there a problem with keeping my hair daily moisturized and they still loc? My goal is actually to put in mini mini twist with a great grid and interlock the roots from now on. Please share your thoughts.
Hi there,i have a question. I loced my hair about 2 months now, using two strand method. My question is,my Loc is beginning to kinda old and I was confused on which method to use to make it look better,I don't know if I should do re-twists or interlock. My locs are 300 strands by the way,and I still want it to maintain that same fullness. Thanks as I wait on a reply.
I haven’t had any issues with extra dryness since dyeing my hair so far. But it is summer time (so its humid where I am) and I haven’t really neglected it since dyeing so I guess only time will tell if My hair struggles more this winter when Im in school and I’m not babying it as much.
Hi! Just a quick question. I am 5 months into my tiny lox journey. I started with 2 strand twists. How do you combat the frizziness of the twist? Any suggestions? Thx!
braiding!!! maybe spray liquid leave in or if you’re feeling fancy a little mousse helps but not too much or too often. friz is a part of the game & it’ll calm down after about a year or so:)
