Should You Play Final Fantasy 14 in 2021 | FFXIV 2021 First Impressions 

mood i hated it the first time too, gave it another try 6 months later and so far im loving it this time around. Certainly a hard game to get into but once you give it like 20-30+hrs it all starts coming together.

I've tried 3 different times to play it but find it boring. I managed to get to level 60 I think. I'm a black mage. WOW seems more fun.

I've never played it I never wanted to play it until now I'm getting a ps4 from a friend so I'm looking forward to that 🙂

is there any way of active dodging or blocking?? or is it just standing around waiting for cool downs and pressing buttons?

@@starwarsfan-ye9hw I guess it depends on what you mean by "active dodging or blocking". It's not like Tera if that's what you mean, but all bosses and many minor enemies have AOE patterns. Your character (in lore reasons, through his/her gift of the Echo) can see enemies gathering energy for attacks and innately senses their shape and pattern. This allows you, the player, to dodge out of them and avoid taking damage. As for shielding, it depends on the class, but all tanks have active mitigation abilities to use when they anticipate a large attack incoming so they can reduce its damage, and all of the healers have some shield mitigation abilities (SCH has the most) to do the same thing. Every tank has small, medium, and large reductions, with the smaller ones available quite often. Some DPS (Monk with Fists of Earth stance, for example) also have mitigation abilities they can use. So it's best described as a hybrid system where there is some unavodable damage but there is a lot of avoidable damage and ways to mitigate damage (either unavoidable or avoidable that you screwed up and got caught in anyway.) There is a lot less sitting and turreting (as the other guy said, compared to WoW) due to the more active dodging.

I'm WAY behind you, but I've heard very good things about how the game develops. That's what pushed me through a slightly rough first impression.

yeah, but when you get in the story part, you will get your level synced. So there is no need for the level grind, just by following story line alone should get your level up.

Side quests are worthless. MSQ give you plenty of xp. Especially now

I found the sidequests quiet enjoyable as they made the world more lively and thought me some lore about the world/zones/npcs..

As a new player, last year, I did all side quests. All the ones I was able to do anyway and didn't skip anything. It got boring fast but I enjoyed making it past all that. Lol the story is amazing and I'm in shadowbringers now.

Yeah I recorded a load of footage on ps4 first... But it recorded with no damn audio... Would have been 30 fps at 1080p. Tempted by the ssd upgrade but hanging in there for an eventual ps5 upgrade

Is it true you have to level up atleast 40 times before the combat gets decent?

yoshi p has stated, while this is an MMO, its a final fantasy game first and foremost. expect tons of cutscenes, a lot of story and tons of characters. which most MMOs dont do like warcraft, they give you basic story beats you can completely ignore. which is why a lot of people shy away or complain endlessly about all the final fantasy that final fantasy xiv has. its back to the basics that MMOs began with. its all about the journey, not the destination.

@@Onos getting to the endgame will take a while but in my opinion its worth it. I'll be honest here, FFXIV's endgame does have its issues, like any other game, but its really fun eapecially if you like really hard challenges to overcome.

@@MegaKaims Seems like FFXIV starts shortly after you start playing and ends when you get to "endgame," as opposed to WoW, where the game doesn't start until you spend trudge through leveling to reach "endgame" and then the game starts.

@@ex0stasis72 depends who you ask, theres always something to do but there are people who log in every big patch do their stuff but go play another game until next big patch

Main story, most of the stuff unlocks through it, also is a good way to level up your main class and the class quests when they become available

just yolo through the main story, if you're not into deep story then get some podcasts up and hit next ( do your dailys) take your time to enjoy some of the side content as i got burned out trying too catch up.

Now that I've finally got a PC I'm planning on doing some streaming... As soon as I can figure it all out with new software and all that... Work in progress!

Personally I felt it start getting decent at around level 10 to 15 I'd say... Then better after that based on more skills etc

@@Onos It’s probably between 1 to 2 million subscribed players or maybe a little more currently.

The endgame is important but the early game hook is even more important to keep players interested enough to get there.

Yep. You don't need psn plus and there is a trial that caps at lvl 60 for new accounts
