From my experience up to this point as a current D1 athlete, I think if any of of symptoms are the neck or above no reason not to run, they’ll just be slight discomfort. However, if it’s stomach sicknesses like a stomach virus or such maybe try easy running and see how you feel. If you genuinely feel completely awful then take that day off or just run very light. That’s just my personal approach to running when sick though!

Hey Nick, My friends and I are all D1 student athletes in Northern Virginia (20 minutes south of DC) and all though it is far from you we were wondering if you would come to our school and race/meet us. While you are over here you would also be able to race strangers and do challenges in DC as you have made many of those types of videos before.

I almost always feel better after I run when sick, but when I start, I give myself permission to stop if I feel worse. You’re right about clearing out the mucus...

Once got cold 5.days to go before qualifying race for Latvian🇱🇻 U14 nationals. Sooo in the day of the race i had temprature 38°C and still raced. Ran horrible and qualified as last from my region (3:38 for 1000m). 2.days later I went back to training and after 12.days I ran 3:18.70 in nationals and got 5th .35 seconds away from a medal. Because I was in the B heat. That season ended up running 3:06.

Senior year HS XC: I ran a 25 second PB off of a sore throat and sneezing fit. So getting a cold isn't a death sentence

If its a big race then go for it. You might have the best race of your life. I ran the championship with a cold and I ran a huge PR and helped my team finish 3rd

I’ve ran with mono flu and pneumonia during my junior year of high school and it wasn’t fun I took 2 months off during the season to rest and I limped my way into state that season for the 100

One of the best races I've done was with the flu, Junior cross country National champs, came away with a 3rd place, definitely don't recomend running like that unless its a very special race, feels HORRIBLE afterwards hahaha

I once did a long jump and sprint competition when it was really cold and I was recovering from being sick. My performances sucked and I got sick again afterwards. I won't be doing that again...

I got sick two day ago and had a qualifier round for the Junior Olympics and had to run sick and it sucked but I still got first in one of my races so I’d say if it’s important enough run wile sick

I had slight fever..didnot feel tired or sick. So ran for 1 hr the next 2 days.. 4th day, I couldn't breathe properly. Had a severe case of pneumonia.. If we ran with pneumonia and didn't know about it, it takes only 2, 3 days to affect lungs and make us seriously ill..so I suggest it is always good to postpone the workout and take good rest and sleep

Actually last week at age of 41 I tried to exercise first time in my life feeling a bit ill (just sore throat and running nose) little illness tried to turn on after 35K/22mile trail running race during my recovery jogs which I had planned for following 5days. I thought my highest morning heart rate was 52bpm feeling it's still on the safe zone. Why? I'm just trying to hold on my running streak which I started 175days ago.. ..thought 365day would be awesome to achieve ☺️

I ran 29 minute 5k yesterday, my PR is 21:12 came in third . I was really sick night before, race morning felt 90 percent , never had a fever. It was tough my friend came in second and I usually beat her ever race, winner ran 24:45 . 1st place got $50 gift card , I still got $20 gift card, I was thinking if I was 100% could got first but I was happy I felt well enough to race, tough when sick 😢

Can we win twice? 🤣 I believe the rule for running while sick is anything above the neck, (runny nose or sore throat) you’re good to go. 🏃🏻‍♀️ Below the neck, (body fever/pain) is a NO. 💕

Well. You can be sick and not even know it. In the 1967 Cross Country season we were ranked #2 in Division 2, and during the League meet I ran as #6 man and totally crashed during the race. I did not feel sick. I went to the Dr afterwards and he discovered that I had a sever case of Mono. I did not feel sick! He asked me why I would be running 4-5 mile races because it could have had very serious consequences for my health overall. So. Be cautious.

Don’t run if you have a fever. I ran through a fever and it harmed me a lot more than if I just rested. I ran everyday that I was sick and it took me weeks to recover from it

What about injury when a title is on the line? I had a bad hip injury that turned out to be a stress reaction, but at the time I didn’t know what it was. I was our number 3 guy on the team and my squad needed me for districts, so I popped some ibuprofen and got ready to run. I raced terribly, but the team still won and went to state. I sat out at state because my injury had gotten worse and my coach told me it wasn’t worth it. I had to spend 6 months in recovery. How do you know when to back off for something important?

I had two races where I was really sick and to add to it a running nose. I did horrible I was supposed to PR, but for the 5k I got 18:58. Respect to those who PR in the same condition that I was in.

I currently run 6,7 miles everyday sometimes when my body is feeling more energized I do 8,9 10 whenever I can . All I do is run if I add 2 days of weights will it effect my running abilities?. I want to do this because I’m really skinny and want to build muscle

if you want to grow, eat more food. weightlifting will tell your body to turn that food into muscle. Throw in some short hard running workouts instead of a long run if you want more speed/strength as well!

If the medicine is over-the-counter, then it is maybe recommended by a doctor but not prescribed.

@@notmky2189 you should do some fartleks, which is where you'll run like 1:00 min and then jog 1:00, to start you could do like 8. Doing 400 are good for speed, also can do a 400 jog after. Also I would say to do some tempo too like some miles. I would say to try to go 7:00 to 7:30 pace, you can try to run faster each mile. 800's are also good for speed

When you do the exercises you have to do a 15 min warmup and 15 min cooldown. (You probably already knew that). Also after your speed days do a recovery run.
