Science people scienced and then came out with their findings. To save you time, let me give you their findings
TL;DR version: LOL NO
Short version: Soaking makes no difference to bioavailability of nutrients in nuts. In fact, you lose some minerals to the water. It works for grains and legumes (we anyway have to soak dal to make them cook quicker)

So relatable damn relatable I would sometimes avoid them because after soaking I often try to figure out how to consume them Chewing them not a good option I pasted them and mixed with my porridge or curd or milk Now sometimes I am intolerant towards milk Especially in the morning So often I would discontinue 😢😢😢

I thought the phytates were present in the skin of almonds which can be removed after soaking and peeling them... Is there any study documenting those results?

I’m an avid follower, so I do hope you will reply to this query. I’m told that Almond skins contain a toxin that serves to repel foraging animals, in order to ensure their germination. The Human animal is also susceptible to this toxin. Hence soaking and peeling almonds is a safeguard consuming the toxin. Another reason for soaking almonds is that it sets the germination process in motion, resulting in the elevation of Vitamin B. Is there truth to these 2 points? Personally, I soak almonds for 24 hrs for the above reasons as well as the fact that peeling them helps reveal insect larvae that might have burrowed into the nut, and morphed into a disgusting worm, as has been my lived experience. Your opinion please. Keep the informative videos coming, I learn a lot from them! 🙏🏽🙏🏽🙏🏽

The amounts of that toxin are trivial for the amount of nuts we consume. Plus the modern day domesticated almond has very little of this compared to its wild ancestor

As far back as I can remember - which is a good half a century atleast - we always soaked legumes, whole and split as well as rice; and roasted nuts and seeds. We didn't know the science behind it. And I continue that. I soak rice, dals and whole grains, and roast the nuts.

​@@amritamuttoo6397 There is knowledge which is gained through trial and error over centuries. The knowledge about soaking is one of them. Then what does science do? Through the scientific method we can test the validity of that knowledge, know the causation and also seperate facts from fiction. There was no way for our ancestors to know that soaking works for legumes but not for nuts.

Yes. As I said in the video, do it or don't do it. Some people like it roasted, some prefer it soaked. Some feel bloated without soaking and many don't. My only argument was with people who claim that it must *only* be soaked or else...

Soaking nuts in general will release the excess heat in the nuts. I see ayurvedic practitioners prescribe it this way to pregnant women. Even some fruits like mangoes are soaked over night in water for the same reason. This practice is still prevalent in northern part of India.

What about the saying that soaking leads to better absorption of nutrients by the body? I think thats more of a reason why people soak their nuts rather than trying to reduce phytates. Can you please give your view on this too?

Soaking is pretty much about phytates only. No other major benefits other than reducing cook time. In the case of dals, soaking reduces phytates AND reduces cook time, so it's super impactful. We don't cook nuts and soaking doesn't reduce phytates, so AFAIC, do what works for you

Does this apply to every nut? Because some people say Cashews has the highest anti-nutrients so you need to definitely soak or roast them to eat them. Could you please clarify this?

I do soak my nuts in fresh filtered water, then put them in the food dryer for 12 hours more or less depending on their size. It really ups the palatability-they’re yummy! I make sure the dryer temperature does not exceed 115°F so I don’t sacrifice any of the good stuff they have to offer. I also sometimes eat unsoaked and untoasted nuts straight from the freezer. This also ups the palatability.

Hi .. I'm also confused whether to soak the nuts before consuming them or not. What I want to mention here is that I was soaking Brazilian nuts overnight and consuming them in the morning. One day I forgot the nuts and they were soaked for one full day. I have observed that the Brazilian nuts were having or covered by oily touches and I had to wash them with fresh water to remove this oil layer covering the nuts. Please let us know if someone knows why the Brazilian nuts were having oily touches after a full day soaked in the water.

The Results shown for soaking and drying after. who dry the nuts after soaking? BTW its easy to peel the almond after soaking so soaking will continue. it is also light on stomach after soaking.

Agree.all nuts are preserved in a hard shell. They dont come in contact with fertilisers or insecticides. So eating them as it is should be fine as the expert suggested.

But eating dry promotes pitta, as explained by sadhguru... especially when eating them with covers... why not make them water rich and more in volume. But i must agree that they arent as tasty and sweet after soaking, also it is an additional task to soak them every time. Also I wasn't aware about the phytayes and the minerals... thanks!

Traditional Indian food lore is about soaking and peeling almonds to remove anti nutrients. Your paper is only half baked unfortunately. Please link some evidence about soaking and peeling. I couldn't find any.

Agree, soaking doesn’t affect much to the nutrient content, but how about the bio availability of nutrients, when almond is soaked, or cashew is roasted.

On a different topic. Just came across a video of yours on FB about tomatoes, potatoes, carrots, etc.being foreign vegetables. Vegetbles that we use for shrardha are Indian ones. So my question is what vegetables were fed to toddlers (6-12 months). My mil swears they ate just carrots, beetroots and potatoes. Upon my stubborn insistence my daughter gets to eat broccoli, sweet potatoes, brussel sprouts, beans, etc. We even feed her millets. Kindly enlighten the food given to weaning babies prior colonisation.

This is called half-baked analysis.. Soaking definitely improves the taste,makes it softer which in turn makes it easy to digest even though phyatate difference is less. You soak and eat,there is a difference.

That's up to your taste. Just because some people like it, it shouldn't be made mandatory for everyone else. Influencers insist on that. And that is the root of the issue. I hate soaked nuts. I think they are soggy and disgusting.

Try eating an handful of groundnuts unsoaked and then next week or two later when the effects has gone down/off, try doing the same with same amount of soaked nuts for 8-10 hours, with soaked water replaced thrice or so and then eat it for your own experience.

@@krishashok our ancesters made many conclusions based on many ethnopharmacological observations made and learnt from dis-ease cased by foods after consumption, but they didn't have idea about chemical constituents. For eg, pepper contains piperin as a major constituent, but many sesquiterpenes, monoterpenes are yet to be elucidated. Their nomenclature, properties are yet to be explored. Surprisingly, May be after an year we may hear a superior chemical constituent than piperin corresponding for benefits of black pepper. Plant biochemistry nd pharmacognosy is still in infancy, thats the major limitation in authenticity of ayurveda today. Good day dear mr.ashok. cu.

Yes I see the natives of Afghanistan, Jammu eat nuts without soaking from thousands of years in winters to keep them warm but people living in hot areas eating nuts anytime any season causing them more harm then benefit

It just makes it softer, and hydrates. There is less concentration
