At the start of the year, I bought a late 2013 MacBook Pro with Retina display for about $400 for some light editing on the go, and some music production. Needless to say, after 5 months of use, do I think that buying a MacBook this old is a good idea? Or should you go for something newer…

I just sold my 2013 MBP 13. Came here to moan. Absolutely loved this machine. I got it in 2014 and it had never failed me. I tortured the hell out of it. Gamed on it for hours, movies, all stuff. And it never let me down. I will miss you bro. Hope the new owner treats you well.

I just bought a brand new one of these!! The guy I bought it from works somewhere where they had a couple of unopened ones backstocked or something. The thing is MINT. Only paid $400 for it and it works so well omg. Only one battery cycle on that thing and literally no imperfections

Yeah, I'm noticing that too now that you've mentioned it. I added a presence boost to brighten the audio after I mixed it in logic, so I probably went overboard haha. Thanks for the feedback

My late 2013 Retina MacBook Pro has been my main computer for all its life and it's by far the best computer I've ever had. Even now the only time it shows it's not top of the class in performance is pushing Garageband with lot of plugins and tracks to the limits. Screen is as good as any if not better, battery is still working great, SSD is still working great, can't find anything I would fault. If I bought any Windows laptop at the time I would have replaced it several times since.

Yes u should, still rocking my 2013 8gb 512gb. Just bought a new battery, it’s still fast as hell. Will probably upgrade in 2023. In that same time I’d have gone through 3 PCs.

Following, coz my MBP late 2013 has the same spec runs Catalina and needs a new battery. The intention after 10 years of was that tech would be dope which takes off at the moment in 2020 so I’m pretty glad about my investment.

I have this very same laptop and I have to say it definitely my work horse. I use premiere, photoshop, and I also use it for music production using Ableton with a heavy amount of plugins and knock on wood it hasn't let me down yet. the only issue I am starting two run into is quite a bit of system memory taking up my hard drive space. but over all I love my laptop

would the 8gb suffice for videos like the ones i make? it seems the 16gb was never sold in aus apparently so they are too expensive (more than the cost of a new 2021 macbook) and the 8gb is the highest

I have the same Macbook (exceted that i have 8gb ram), my battery is at 1100 chargingcycles, and i still get about 6 hours of browsing and watching youtube, and about 3h on midheavy load. I love that thing 😍

I have the same laptop bought it in 2013 but now it is slowing down specially if i want to open any page I already upgraded it to macOS Catalina version 10.15.7 any help is much appreciated.

@@ibrahimsalih5783 I know this comment is old, but you might want to upgrade your RAM or go to SSD if you haven't already. Also, if the battery cycle is over 1000, that can also potentially cause issues, so you may just want to replace the battery. HTH.

Hopefully you can clarify a question, I have a macbook pro late 2013. But how slow does it get without having Cuda driver support from nvidia? since I can't use my video card. Does it affect on catalina the performance, like example con premier pro?

I Just got a Perfect condition early 2015 13 inch MacBook Pro with the 2.7GHZ core i5 16gb ram and 256gb ssd which I upgraded to 2tb NVME, it only costed me $210, It does run abut sow when you watch 4k RU-vid video and intensive video edition but for basic use it runs great. I replaced the thermal past as well which made the laptop run smoother and cooler under load. the battery didn't need replacing since it was in normal status condition with just 130 cycle count.

you should clean the dust and change the thermal paste. It will run faster and cooler. My 2013 15 inch is still running great :D nice video

I got it for $400 used and you can't get the same apps, which is the main reason I actually bought it. But yeah, when it comes to price to performance, Windows computers often have a huge edge
