The whole Wilson Launch Pad range is a super game improvement offering with forgiving, slice combating technology. The aim is to provide more consistent distance gapping throughout the bag of every player.
The big difference in this range to other lightweight models is the use of hybrid irons rather than standard iron models.
So what is a hybrid iron? If the name didn’t give this away, it is a cross between a hybrid and an iron which is designed to replace irons and offer high-handicap golfers an alternative that’s much easier to hit and launch.
Although they wouldn’t like to admit it, most club golfers hit their mid to long irons the same distance. This is fine if you have room to run up shots from the fairway to the green, but not if you have bunkers or water hazards to carry.
All this information begs the question: Should most high handicap golfers be using a full bag of hybrid irons?
After all, they offer much more forgiveness on off-centre strikes and are far more consistent in terms of carry distances. What’s not to love?

I’m a 65 year old man who hasn’t golfed in more than 12 years and decided to start playing again. I heard good things about the Launch Pad 2’s so I got a set of irons 6-PW, GW with graphite senior shafts now granted I don’t hit the ball near as far as I did in my younger days but I absolutely love theses clubs..they really are much easier to hit than any club I’ve ever had…so that’s my opinion for what it’s worth 😂😂👍🏼👍🏼

@@NCtrailX my set is actually the 4-PW. That’s all I could find online. I do plan on purchasing the SW in the future. I love the PW! Incredible height on it and it just falls out of the sky with minimum run out

Before I bought my LP2s, I used Ping G20s and was erratic, most times not able to break 100. (BTW, I'm 73, male, golfer for 42 years, and played blades well once upon a time.) I bought a 6-PW set and I now break 90 pretty consistently and even broke 80 once, something I consider almost miraculous. The LP2s are just easy to hit, they feel like a part of me when I play them, unlike my old Pings. Since age has taken - and, will take - its eventual toll on my athletic abilities, these will be my irons for the foreseeable future. I cannot say enough good things about these irons.

It won’t be a popular opinion, but I think that all the way down to low single hdc players would benefit from using a full set of these irons. Also, though high hdc players would get a lot out of these clubs, it’s really a 7-12 type hdc that would get the most out of these clubs, because the results of their many minor misses per round would be greatly improved by these clubs. Whereas really high hdc players hit a lot of shots that no tech can really do much about.

As a beginner player, it's hilarious how mishits sometimes end up improving my score. Today I thinned a pitching wedge flag high on the green and almost made birdie on that Par 3.

Using this type of hybrid-iron makes a lot of sense for beginners, seniors etc. A blended set of hybrid-irons up to say 30 degrees loft, then cavity backed irons ( easier to fade as needed) from 30-60 degrees loft as you improve your handicap works well. I have used the Cleveland version of these ( full set) and the Tour Edge version and found that I could shape the Cleveland HB Launcher model easier. If you have a slice problem, hybrid-irons are helpful to reduce it, but won't eliminate it 100%.

Really great review, good to see a golfer of your high standard not dismissing these type of irons. You say suited to beginner/high handicapper, how about a good golfer getting on in years and needing a bit of help with ease of use and distance.

Hi Hannah, i am currently a 47hcp and have ordered a set of these irons that have been custom fit for me with senior flex shaft 1/2 inch shorter and the club heads have been set at 2 degrees lower so your review is very good to see how they perform.

As a player in my mid 50s, it’s good to know that when I can’t get my 921 Tours to work, I can just get a set of those and keep on playing. It’s been one of the great things about golf tech for amateurs is how it’s helping keep people in the game when swing speed starts to fall off.

My answer would be a resounding yes. I'm 60 shoot 85-87 from 6000-6200 yds and carry 3, 4, 5, and 6 hybrids (traditional hybrids); they are just easier to hit for accuracy and distance. My 6hy goes 160 and the 3hy190, I am not getting those distances from irons.

I just purchased these myself "Wilson Launch Pad " full iron set SW/GW/P-5I, they have improved my game sooooo much, the under 50 yard shots took some practicing but very very impressed with these clubs! some people would be letting their ego stop them from using these!

Just turned 53 and starting to loose distant. Seriously considering getting these by the end of the year. All the reviews I have seen on Clubs most Average Golfers should expect 15 - 20 Yards more distance along with more consistent strikes.

Good review and these clubs are certainly going to help a lot of people play better golf. I think a lot of us need to keep an open mind about what kind of clubs we should be playing. 10:14 I especially like your informative graphics that show your results in an easy-to-comprehend manner.

Hannah those clubs might be what I need .I currently have the willson d9 irons . I don't get that distance with my irons .you are very young too.but even at 65 years old and a pretty good swing but I hit my 7 iron only 137 yards .and the 7 iron is 27 degrees.

Hi Frank. I am about your age (68) and my 7 iron ( 33 degrees loft) distance is about 135 yards. I found that from 19-30 degrees I had to go to hybrids to get reliable distance gaps. Perhaps you could blend in this style of hybrid-iron with your D9s in the higher lofts to achieve reliable gapping distances. Total distance isn't that important as long as you can hit an iron a reliable distance.

Looked at these, Cobra t rails, and cleveland launcher halo xl clubs at the pga store. The Wilson's definitely looked the best at address. They looked the most like a traditional iron at address

Try the Sub70 799 and Cleveland Halo XLs as well-- similar type irons (TXG has reviewed both). I probably will game them when I age out of Game Improvement irons (in terms of speed and Shot height)

Hi and thanks for the video; it was very interesting. I have a set of these and one thing I am finding is that there is not a great distance gap between the clubs? You said you found there was, I wonder why that would not be the case for me?

I very much enjoyed the review. Can you tell me the shafts in those clubs & what price they are in the UK? I really need help with getting the ball in the air and then distance - you comfortably outhit me. My handicap is catching up to my age - I'm 65.

Great video Hannah, I’m off to test the PXG version tomorrow. I know a chap who plays off 5 using the Cleveland Launchers and he makes the game look easy. My reservation would be playing in windy conditions with the super high ball flight. What do you think?

Yes wind would be an issue sometimes, think it ultimately depends just how high you hit them.

@@tonyguest581 well my PXG fitting was a bit of a disaster in that there was an incident on the motorway en route so I only had half an hour and the fitter saw my swing and steered me towards their other clubs which he thought better suited. ( I’m approaching single figure HCP these days). In the end I’ve falling in love with my Sub 70 699 irons which was an amazing fitting experience. - Incidentally sub70 do a 799 hybrid iron. I did hit the PXG 211z 7 iron at a trade show and I think it would take some getting used to hitting more like a hybrid than an iron. Have definitely not discounted these in the future though especially as not getting any younger.

I’ve also just ordered a set of these 5-GW. I ordered before seeing this video and I’m also interested in whether it is worth getting the SW. I have half a dozen already including Ping, Vokey, etc. Has anyone who’s tried the SW have any thoughts? I’ve ordered graphite shafts.

Any good for a mid handicapper with a 7iton swing speed around 88mph? Also you keep mentioning the height are these easy to play a low flighted shot as playing on a link course on a windy day

Love the review. I’m looking to buy a set of super game improvement irons but I’m undecided between the Wilson Launch Pad irons or the Tour Edge E522 irons. Have you tried the Tour Edge E522? Could you make a review and compare them to the Wilson Launch Pad irons? Thanks.

Joe I bought a TE E522 six iron and found it to be very draw biased. I have not tried these Wilson irons, but I do have a set of the Cleveland HB Launchers. I think they are less draw biased than the Tour Edge product. If you have a slice issue, the TE would be fine.
