Honestly speaking this is one of the best videos I have seen not just in automobile youtube community but in whole youtube in a long while …..as this video gives such an old yet classic timeless advice about truly respecting and loving each and every purchase of your life and upgrading only when there’s a truly definite need to and not just to show off , following latest trends or status building……I literally can’t tell you veerji how much we gen z kids need these type of eye opening original classic baare bhai vali advice nowadays in this overstuffed consumerism era…after this my respect for you my big bro has increased hundreds and hundreds fold in my heart 🙏🏻💗😇…..as these types of videos are a nightmare for any youtuber as it can damage future viewerships of not only you but any youtuber….but you still posted it not for the views or money but for the love care and wellbeing you have for your subscribers …..many many hat’s off to you veer ji …..raab tvaanu hamesha chaardiya kaalanch raakhe 😇😍🙏🏻

I spent 20000 for one year maintenance on 15 year old car. If we compared it to new car i20 it will cost near 10000 in maintenance every year + the emi and interest. I am driving old car with peace of mind and there is no burden of loan on my head

The thing I like about VW group India is that they don't give FOMO to their existing customers by updating their existing lineup of cars very frequently and marketing it as if it is something groundbreaking or extraordinary when in reality it maybe just a minor facelift or feature addition. They only give necessary updates as and when required❤

I agree . The new age models of cars can’t even seat 3 in the rear. My Baleno aka Tin can , has enough boot for 4 adults , can seat 5 comfortably, cruise for good short distances of 200k and yet not break a sweat

Sunderdeep Singh ji - I’ve seen your video on ethanol blend in fuels - since then what is your opinion on old car owners using high octane instead of switching to e20. I’ve visited many gas stations around and many have reported pre-2019 cars are showing troubles. Those who never read their manuals are filling e20 in the tanks and later the car is not running as expected. Though some gas stations completely deny this and are trying to shove these new age fuels down the throat.

An eye opener video that wakes up from fantasies abt replacing your old car with a new one just to pamper yourself because of FOMO.. with every facelift they're degrading quality of their parts even the engine (just to match environmental pollution norms), but it's not that sensible to replace your perfectly working car just for pollution norms.. thank you so much Sir for choosing this topic in the Era of facelifts that causes FOMO ❤❤

Happily owning and maintaining my 2009 Hyundai i20 CRDi which would be completing its 15th year later in 2024 and currently ticking a shade above 235k kms. Would never replace my i20 for something else, NEVER not that it's a gem of a car which indeed it is obviously but also the fact that it's my first car and saying it's my first love would be an understatement. It's been with me through all these years through the darkest and lowest phase to my best times, it's been more of an actual living best friend to me than just a car and it even saved my life once when I was injured (almost fatally) and ambulance never arrived on the scene, if not for i20 I would not have been alive today and typing this comment, I hope you too can resonate how much you love your Polo and how many times it helped you without letting you down(I remember in one of your old video you said how your Polo helped you in building your house and you transported steel rods and cement bags in it and it proudly withstood all the abuse without any complaint), that's how an unbreakable bond is made. Even I've retained my grandparents' 2000 Hyundai Santro, as for me it's not just a car it's the last impressions I've of my grandparents, they loved it like their son(my uncle who settled in US and never ever came back) and used to take utmost care of it, even though Santro had no real purpose it has a special place in my heart and the exact reason why I would be retaining Santro forever. All of its papers are in perfect order(the FC has been renewed twice and current one would be renewed before 2025 and I would be having a permit till 2030, take small 2-3kms round every week and get its timely servicing done with the same ASC it's been serviced for past 24years! Due to my grandpa being extremely systematic I still have each and every service bill dating back to 2000!! and the original owners' manual!, these old Hyundais do have a soul man!! I'm not at all against new cars but what irks me that people changing cars a bit too frequently, I've been observing this trend of late and even in esteemed forums like TeamBHP many of them say have bought a certain car and now all of a sudden a new car has launched, now they start to find those small niggles and feature misses as a deal breaker and one they absolutely require and sell their pristine hardly an year old car to buy a new one, a big waste IMHO of resources and main culprit behind ever increasing congestion on our already poorly designed roads, that's the reason even though I'm a BHPian I'm less active lately coz if I criticise they form a ghetto(most probably they joined together and are good friends) and start to bash those who are against their decisions and only respond positively to those who flatter and support their idiotic decisions, this ain't the Team BHP I knew as a kid 20years ago when this forum was established, though I must mention a beautiful article about retaining your old car beyond 5years by GTO and benefits of the same would be attaching the link, do have a read of the same www.team-bhp.com/forum/owning-car/44804-article-your-5-year-old-car-keep-upgrade-swap.html. Good video, clearly highlighted points but could do with a bit more examples and insights, Thank you!

You are spot on with your Views. Sold my Hyundai Santro after 14 years because it was nearing 15 years limit. Perform exceeding well did not ever happen to open the engine for 1.40 lacs kms. Servicing just once a year at Hyundai service Stn only. Would say Hyundai offers the best & affordable after sales services. Followed by Nexa & Honda as joint 2nd. Sold my Tata Sumo & Indica at scrape value in the 6th year since experienced the worst Ownership Experiences. Got my Sumo engine opened 3 times. 4 times Gearbox & God knows how many times got the suspensions repair & Services. So frustrated with Cars defects, problems & Service Stns that pledged never ever to buy a Tata Cars in life. Learnt my lessons with experience. Hence 1st thing I would do is visit Service Stn in the morning when the Cars are brought for servicing, collect 1st hand complains from drivers, owners after sales experience. If satisfied 50% would take a test drive for City driving comfort, Handling & efficiency. We hardly travel on the highway maybe less 500 kms maximum in a year. Maximum being 20-30 kms only.

My concern in this is, repair ability. Companies are not able to repair the products after a certain amount of time. Especially in the case where brands launch many products overtime, either through new generations or new category itself It happens in some mobile phone brands and cars My brother has an i20 gen 1 facelift. He got some of its parts damaged due to diff diff reasons, breakage or small accident or something. He faced alot of trouble finding the parts, in delhi ncr( noida) It makes better sense( in case of cars) where there's alot of part sharing like maruti, or cars that don't bring huge charges in cars like vw skoda (1.0 generation) cars You can drive your vw because it hasn't changed alot till it's lifetime in India. Same is with other gadgets like OnePlus category of brands

Saddened to know the fact that you’re facing a tough time with sourcing parts for Hyundai i20 even in cities like Delhi NCR. I think dealer is being unfriendly to you coz I’ve no issues in sourcing parts for my almost 15years old i20 Asta(O) CRDi which has clocked over 235k kms, all the regular parts are available over the counter and some major parts are made available within a week’s time, also I’ve my grandparents’ 2000 Hyundai Santro with me and it still goes to the same ASC for service it’s been going for the past 24years! And still I’ve no issues in sourcing parts for that car as well, maybe I’ve built a very good rapport with my Hyundai ASC but still spare part support shouldn’t be an issue at least with MSIL/Hyundai/Toyota, try to check with other more reputed dealers I’m sure you would find the required parts!

101% agree with SS. Insurance of a old car is very minimal compared to new one. The pleasure of owing a well maintained old car is something special that we can’t grt from a brand new car. I have one doubt. Is it better to change the engine oil once in 6 months for a smoother engine?

Plus delhi ke bumper to bumper traffic me kaafi advantage hai choti gaadi ki. Khi se bhi nikal jaati hai. Getting a big car in delhi is curse nowadays. Even though i can afford to buy a new one but simply don't want to cuz my needs are already getting fulfilled by my eon.😊

I totally agree with everything you said in the video. ❤ I own a 2010 swift dzire nearing 14 years of life now. Though I have only driven it for 90K kms but darn that car still drives like a dream and it has a much stronger body as compared to current models of swift. I ensured it got serviced at the authorised Maruti workshops every year and changed parts whenever it demanded. I prolly would have to sell it now considering the 15 year lifespan rule in Delhi NCR. Which I believe is illogical. I still fail to understand how is this going to curb the pollution levels as I will still buy a new car. So it’s not that there is going to be 1 less car on the road. My car irrespective of its age is well maintained, with pollution levels in check and I still have to sell it for pretty much its scrap value. Absolutely stupid rule.

You do know the emissions and fuel economy is better in the new Dzire due to the engine and the hybrid system right? The emissions standards 10 years ago were less stringent then so it make sense to get rid of older cars and trucks that might have met the old standard but cant meet the current ones.

Paaji I feel 8-10 years is a very good point to switch your car and ideally we should always try for an upgrade in some sense. The only outlier here is Toyota's Fortuner/ Innova which you can keep for as long as possible legally/ parking space wise. In 8-10 years, there will be sufficient engine/ gb/ safety/ feature improvements. But I agree replacing the car for ADAS/ touch screen or even worse panaromic sunroof is foolish🤣

The points that came last should’ve come first. as soon as you said that older 🚗 were built better and better engineered. I immediately pressed on the like button, I own an elite i20 which is 1060 kgs in petrol. It had four parking sensors, the new one weighs 960 kgs and Hyundai reduced the parking sensors to 3. similar with the German twins the Slavia and virtus the original German quality which we used to get in the rapid polo and Vento. I don’t think it’s there in the new German Twins.

Kati right paaji. I believe ICE cars if maintained well and used for a longer period of time will have lesser impact on the environment than buying a car and upgrading every 5-6 years or so. We should encourage this and push the government so that the companies are bound to provide the spare parts for each model or atleast successful models they have sold for as long as possible, even if the model is discontinued for some reason or the generation of the model is old.

But i somehow overcame this urge, thought rationally..new car = a small hole in current savings + new emi + slightly higher running cost & instead decided on extending life of current car to extract more value from it. Also bought 2 year service AMC + manufacturers extended warranty as well to put an end to any such near term future urges😂

Look I get FOMO and that Hyundai/Kia exploit this relentlessly every year when they facelift thier cars either in India or globally(just about every car except the Exter that the brands have in India has a facelift that was just released or is being worked on in Korea right now)however there are some gaps you cant cross with just saying youre going to stick to it. For instance if you have the Sigma trim of something like a Alto or a WagonR you bought 3 or 5 years ago, your going to have your mind blown when you see push button start in something like a Fronx or Seltos and see you dont have to struggle with fumbling for a key when you have your hands full when you return to the car. A system like that is not cost effective to add in that Alto or WagonR(heck those platforms arent even made for that as a option). With that said when it comes time to upgrade for reasons like that it makes sense you get something with a broad feature list that suits your needs and is either future proof or is on a flexible platform so that those missing features can be added at a later date. I agree with the main point, if you bought a X line or GT line Sonet this year, you really shouldnt be upgrading to a new car in 2026 unless the car is written off or you had twins.
