"First choice is best choice for buying a house" That's the worst advice I've ever heard.
@hyenaedits3460

No, in that particular hypothetical example the first choice was the best choice. The point is that snap decisions are ironically more likely to work out when making complex decisions.

If the valuation of the house's properties were right there is no way that's right. Must have been a flawed study.
@AStrangeTree
@AStrangeTree 7 лет назад
To follow up, the hypothetical reason for this is because intuition is based off of emotion, which is driven by a large complex set of rules and conditions. Essentially, it's massively overloading to the conscious mind to process all the information that is crucial to the decision making process in buying a house, but our emotions usually derive from minutia we aren't always aware of. If you're happy in the house now, you'll probably be happy in it in the future.

I think both should be relied on, but if I had to pick one that's more trustworthy that would be logic. Logic is based on facts, reasoning, evidence, rules and calculation whereas intuition is based upon wild guesses, emotions, feelings (the kind of stuff that could make you more loveable but also the kind of stuff that could land you in a lot of trouble).I think both have their place, but you could think of it as the difference between taking a genuine medication and a placebo medication.
@RaduP3
@RaduP3 2 года назад
@@aditya6201 I do not think that the placebo comparison is accurate. Intuition works with information from the "background". Even if you consciously cannot see what your intuition's logic is, it doesn't mean there isn't a logic there. For example, many people experience other people's emotions, intentions or even background motivations. IT is because they experience it in their own body and emotions like it is their own, except it isn't. It's like a sponge. That is happening through the mirror neurons. Intuition is not 100% true all the time, but nor is logic, as long as you do not have all the pieces of the puzzle. Your logic might be correct with the given fragments of information you have, but as long as you don't have the whole picture you cannot use it for the end result, so you either stop action or go along with intuition. Also, in the way you cultivate your rational mind, you can cultivate your connection to your intuition and "educate" yourself on how your intuition works in order to develop it, by being mindful of yourself - your thoughts, your emotions, body sensations. What happened inside you during the moment your intuition was correct? What happened inside you when your intuition was wrong? Can you see some differences? etc, explore. if you do it, at some point your brain gets more and more information through meta-cognition and you will have a better intuition about your own intuition. intuitionception

@saeedbaig4249
@saeedbaig4249 6 лет назад
Just a thought; is it possible that people who went used instinct rather than thinking over the choices are happier because "ignorance is bliss"? If you think through all the pros and cons, it makes sense you'd be less satisfied simply because you're aware of the cons and what you'd be missing out from the other options, even if you think you still made the best choice. But if you don't do any careful thinking and just go with your instinct, you're not really aware of what you're missing out on from the other offers/ how poor your choice may be compared to the alternatives, so naturally you dont think about it and are just happier.

Einstein on intuition: When I examine myself and my methods of thought, I come close to the conclusion that the gift of imagination has meant more to me than any talent for absorbing absolute knowledge. All great achievements of science must start from intuitive knowledge. I believe in intuition and inspiration.... At times I feel certain I am right while not knowing the reason." Thus, his famous statement that, for creative work in science, "Imagination is more important than knowledge" (Calaprice, 2000, 22, 287, 10).

as someone who practices introspection and pays a lot, like a lot lot of attention to my inside, I noticed this too. I decided at some point that I will trust my intuition (despite many fears internally telling me that I shouldn't), and sometimes it's a silent voice, and sometimes it's like yelling at me and I simply cannot ignore it. What I can also tell you is that the more you trust it, the more it appears and the more you can develop it. Like any other thing, you start to learn the sensations and all the ways it manifests itself. The last part where it is yelling at me despite any aparent reason (sometimes defying my own conscious logic) is what I can relate to with Einstein. It's so weird, yet so true.

I really loved this video but "gut feelings" should be called what they are: Heuristics. Heuristics may be faster at identifying patterns but they can be fooled in really interesting ways. It would have been cool if you went deeper into some of the faults as to why these fail.
@upandatom
@upandatom 7 лет назад
So you're saying gut feelings can be fooled?
@cosmicatrophy4648
@cosmicatrophy4648 7 лет назад
miss physics of course, they are essentially things that are true more often than not. See Agency Detection, when we hear a noise we often get a feeling that it's caused by an agent. This is an adaptive heuristic that serves us well generally. It's saved our skin in dangerous times even if it's sometimes only the wind, for example
@upandatom
@upandatom 7 лет назад
yeah I guess when you think about it most of the time the conclusions we jump to even if it's just our subconscious are often wrong. The problem is I tend to never trust my gut feeling and in the end you just end up thinking way too much about unimportant things.
@custos3249
@custos3249 7 лет назад
Exactly. It would've been nice if they explored the actual psychology and science behind why heuristics are extremely limited in utility outside a few inadequate examples, such as that, while it's still helpful at times, it's an evolutionary left over from when assuming the noise in the bushes was a lion, regardless of the reality, meant survival, but it's *ASAP*science. They don't to comprehensiveness.
@Lilitha11
@Lilitha11 7 лет назад
A good example is that card example they give in the video. Your body started sensing a pattern after 10 cards but it is easy to see how some random luck could easily trick you. If the first two decks had more bad cards, but through random chance you drew more good cards early on, you would be totally fooled.

What about in a test question, when you don't know the answer and just have a feeling that one of them is the correct one,, though another option seems like it makes more sense, is it better to go for your intuition???? (maybe ou had seen that question before, but it's in your subconcious)
@SuperAirDriller
@SuperAirDriller 7 лет назад
In that specific situation, most likely it is not intuition you are dealing with, but just some emotion influenced idea. And if thats the case, go for the one that "makes more sense".
@Almace
@Almace 7 лет назад
+brualdasil2 If you, genuinely, have no idea about the question/topic and feel like you've never even heard anything remotely. Then you can't have a "gut feeling" about the correct answer. The "gut feeling" is actual knowledge inside of your brain, that is processed by said brain, before you even become conscious of it. In other words, your brain already knows the answer, but you still have to become aware of that fact and piece everything together, consciously. In those situations, you're likely just "feeling" something, anything about a certain answer and think that that feeling represents actual knowledge. It could be a certain word (like "horse" and you might like horses), so the answer seems to be more correct than answers with different words (like "frog", when you dislike frogs). So, it's important to know in what kind of situation you're in. Are you educated on a certain topic, have you been in a similar situation before, do you actually understand what the problem is? If you're completely clueless, then chances are, that you can just guess anything and live with your uninformed decision (maybe you get lucky). That's why it's advisable to do at least some studying, before tests. Obviously, that's harder when it comes to decisions in life.

+TheBanjoShow The comment wasn't meant to impress anyone but to show how simply it can be done. The fact that you even imply that it might be a difficult thing, suggests that you're very pleased with yourself, because you could solve it. Don't be arrogant, when you can solve very simple math. There are a lot of people who can't even do that or don't want to. And that's fine too. It sucks though, when there's some wannabe "genius", that devalues the efforts of people trying to help others. Have a nice day and try not to fall from your high horse.

Sometimes theres a logical reasoning to why we get a feeling of intuition. Other times it's a feeling out of no where that we don't understand. Like I get bad or good feelings out of no where sometimes when there is nothing in my environment that would influence that. I am still a firm believer that there is something deeper we do not understand about intuition. Maybe it's spiritual, evolutionary or whatever.

Each major decision in my life had one very clear answer in my gut, heart, and logic. I visited many colleges, but knew the right one when I saw it. I didn't need to justify it. It had all the right things. The same thing happened with choosing a career path. I tried many out but only one was the very clear answer in every way. Now I'm buying a home. It's pretty clear I want this one for almost every reason. I haven't had to worry about my gut instinct being wrong because it's more of screaming voice shouting, "Pick this one!"

I've heard that when kids are growing their body will actually convert a majority of foods into what they need and it's not a super, crazy big deal if they arent eating healthy all the time. @sonyvalencia
@sonyvalencia 7 лет назад
Custos I understand people can have more than one fixed personality realistically, but there's is always a default personality that comes naturally. I also understand that humans are far more complicated than just the Mbti. However, it doesn't mean that the test doesn't have a touch of truth to it.

yaaaaass! I was really hoping someone would comment this hahah
@custos3249
@custos3249 7 лет назад
sony so There is no such thing as a default personality. That literally goes against the concept of personality itself. If it helps, the best definition we have in psychology for what personality is is "a unique and relatively stable pattern of thoughts, feelings, and behaviors across time and situations." The words "default" and "unique" don't play nice with each other. The MBTI is considered the horoscope of personality for tons of reasons including its limited number of "types," that it uses categories at all, it defines each personality type in terms flattering to the person, doesn't delve into the negative side of personality such as how neurotic you may be, the scores it uses are arbitrary (FYI, I score as INTP, INTJ, INFP, and INFJ depending how I answer 4 questions separately. That shouldn't completely change my results were they valid), and it doesn't tell you anything in context to other people, e.g. it doesn't tell you if you're level of extroversion is objectively average or above/below the average person. I get that the MBTI is easy to understand, which is why it's so popular, and that it feels like it says things about you, but each type's description is literally constructed in the same way horoscopes are through flattering, vague phrasing.
@sonyvalencia
@sonyvalencia 7 лет назад
Custos I don't think comparing horoscopes to the Mbti is fair. Horoscopes are extremely broad they can't be taken seriously at any level. (only for pure entertainment) The Mbti uses a bit of logic, and pattern. A reasonable person knows that the human mind is far too complicated to just say this is all i am. I know no person is a cookie - cutter in general. However, it doesn't mean we don't have the ability to lean towards certain patterns of behavior. Everyone can and at some point in life has been every personality on the mbti and more. We do what we can to thrive in this world. If we have to become an extrovert than we adapt.I don't think we would survive as a species if we had one set of behaviors. Honestly we can't just chalk up our personalities to a test you're right about that.

Does that mean people with a "better" or more "accurate" intuition are better at recognizing and remembering patterns then those that aren't?

Intuition changes the more information you get about a certain topic. Its more like a statistical answer to a question you do not know the answer to, without knowing the source of the statistical information. Its like a meta analysis study done on studies from which you don't know the validity of the results or how they were conducted, but nevertheless is better than guessing blindly.

maybe I'm wrong, but that's something completly different, because 1. that feeling you're talking about is not reliable. many cases like these exist and if you go on and test that gut feeling, it was mostly not reliable. the case you give suggests something of a sixth sense, that many people lack, but if that feeling is actually reliable and why it is hasn't been(at least to my knowledge) proven and would have to be proven in the future.

Sometimes I take a different path to my house, but for some reason I had a feeling that something wasn't right, so I made sure that there was always someone around me that I could see while walking to and from 711. When my mum got home later that day, she had told me that when I had left for 711, there was a guy on that other path that was suspicious, and he was waving around a gun. Then the police shot him. JaapEVG Those who engage in incest have something mentally wrong with them. We are programmed to not be attracted to those related to us for reproduction purposes, so if someone is attracted to their relative then something is wrong with them either mentally or biologically
@jktomas
@jktomas 7 лет назад
***** Well Ok. But should it be illegal even though the individuals are using protection? Kinda unfair. And what should be the punishment then?
@iiFallenWish
@iiFallenWish 7 лет назад
jktomas Yes, because the chance of an offspring is still possible. Saying it should only be illegal of a child is born isn't practical, because you will absolutely have people still producing offspring whether on purpose or on accident, so it should be outlaw outright. Accidents still happen even with protection. Penalty would have to be decided by the states, I guess. Jail time is too severe but I'd understand it, but a fine or having their child taken is another.
@iiFallenWish
@iiFallenWish 7 лет назад
jktomas It's not crazy, its about what is biologically/morally right and what isn't. With two relatives, the chances are much higher and they are doing so KNOWING that there is a more than likely chance their child will be deformed. With other parents, I do think they should proceed with the same caution as just not having a child if they know there's a good chance it will be deformed. As in if they do get pregnant, alternatives should be heavily considered. Should it be illegal for the non related couple? No, because they aren't related, and they aren't purposely going out of their way to try and produce a deformed offspring. I'm saying incest should be illegal on not just a moral but biological reason.
